Chapter 93
One of the days when Cayden traveled, Weston came over to stay with Elodre as usual. They embarked on a shopping trip and returned home in the evening.
“Oh damn! It was awesome!!” Tossing the mart bags on a couch, she plumped into one of the couches and exhaled.
“I'm exhausted already,” Weston picked one of the wines from the wine shelf. “Do you mind having some drinks?”
“Sure!” Elodre said.
The wine glasses clinked as he picked two.
“We're headed to the garden!” Elodre said.
Weston rolled his eyes and sighed. “Okay,”
*
The environment was magnificently illuminated with bright emission of lights. The breeze was blowing mildly, playing with Elodre's hair and her long sleeveless free gown as she trailed behind Weston on the walkway amid blooming colorful flowers.
They got to the garden and sat on the already-set chairs and table. Weston gently dropped the wine and glasses on the table. Soon, Elodre got up.
“Where are you headed?” He asked as he popped the wine.
“Wanna pluck that rose flower over there,” Elodre said and walked over to the blossoming flowers.
Weston smiled and shook his head. He brought out his sleeping pills from his baggy pants pocket, opened them, and poured them into his drink.
“Hey Weston?!” Elodre called out from a distance.
“What?” He answered.
“Come take a look at this!” She said,
He walked over and said, “What's that?”
She pointed at one of the flowers. “What's that thing over there? “
He gazed down at the flower and raised a brow. “Comm'n Elodre, damn you. That's just a caterpillar. A butterfly's young.”
“Oh,” She giggled.
Rolling his eyes, he said, “You're so silly…”
But Elodre was already running enthusiastically to the table and Weston's phone chimed in his pocket.
*
Hanging up, Weston walked over and sat but Elodre was already with a wine glass, gulping down the wine. They laughed and discussed while drinking.
In a couple of hours, Weston noticed Elodre drifting off. “Elodre? Elodre?!” But she was fast asleep. And Weston's eyes widened. She'd taken his drink and he took hers! Oh damn!

END OF FLASHBACK

“I…I woke up feeling wet between my thighs the following morning,” Elodre was whimpering. “I…I can't recall how I got to bed that night. I…I dunno w…what happened…to me, doctor Lane, I don't…” Her whole body was shaking.
Maximiliano Lane was touched by her story. He shook his head and sighed. “So you believe your brother-in-law put a sleeping pill in your drink and slept with you?”
“Y…yes,” Elodre's face was flooded with tears.
“And your husband was away by then?”
“Y…yes, doctor,” Elodre sniffled. “I didn't see when he put the pills in my drink though. But I saw a pack of pills on the floor, just by the bed. My hair was disheveled…my gown w…was on the floor…”
Studying her, the doctor bobbed. “Hmm, that's pretty intense.” He hesitated briefly and said, “So, did you ask your brother-in-law what really happened? Did you talk to him about it?”
“Yes, doctor,” Elodre said. “B…but he looked so lost and confused when I asked him. Honestly, I…I trusted him. It's hard to believe h…he did such a thing to me.”
“So…what was his response?” The doctor asked.
“He said h…he never did anything to me,” She said. The scenario was recasting in her head. “H…he said he suffered from Insomnia then…so he put the pills in his drink, and…and I accidentally drank his instead of mine.”
“That's such a huge twist, Elodre,” Doctor Max Lane shook his head.
“But I…trusted him,” Elodre's eyes glittered with tears. “My husband trusted him. Th…that's why he never had a problem with Weston coming to visit me.”
“Weston?” Doctor Maximiliano Lane asked.
“Yeah, Weston,” She said.
“Weston Brooks?” He asked.
“Yes,” Elodre said. “Do you know him?”
“While you were still unconscious,” The doctor said. “A young guy came to check on you.”
“What?!” She exclaimed and her hands flew to her mouth. Her eyes were wide. “Did he say his name?”
“Yeah,” The doctor said and she gasped. “He said his name is Weston Brooks…”
“Christ!” Elodre was so shocked that chills sparked in her body.
“He said he came for a project…”
“So Weston is in Canada?!” This can't be true! What a small world!
“He stays in California,”
“Yes!” Elodre shook her head. “That's him! My brother-in-law!”
“He said the news of your accident went viral so he decided to come check on you.”
Aww! She's gonna cry. More tears rolled down her cheeks. That's so sweet. She thought. What if he's innocent? “ The thing is that I discovered I was pregnant after that incident….that night.”
Maximiliano contemplated for a while and sighed. “So you're convinced Weston slept with you?”
She shut her eyes tight and tears spilled on the cannula on her hand. “I…I dunno…”
“So your husband got mad and kicked you out,” He said. “I can understand. I can't blame him though.”
Elodre nodded in agreement. “Ever since then I…I’ve been living in insecurities and panic attacks.”
Doctor Max sighed. He folded his arm and shook his head.
Elodre narrated the entire story of how she got to Canada and her son, Raiden.
“Don't worry, I'll take care of your son,” Doctor Max said.
And Elodre shot a surprised gaze at him. “Really?!” She cried for joy.
“It's on me,” Doctor Max smiled.
“Oh my God!” Tears rolled down her eyes. “That means the world to me, doctor. I…I appreciate…”
“My pleasure, ma'am,” Doctor Max said. “I'll send the police and some folks to go bring your boy over here, okay?”
“Okay,” She nodded. “Th…thank you…thank you so much…” She broke down in tears. “You have no idea what you've done for me. Th…thank you!”
Smiling, Doctor Max nodded. “My pleasure, ma'am.” He cleared his throat softly and said, “So, what's your husband's name?”
“C…Cayden Brooks,” Elodre said.
“Oh,” The doctor nodded. “I think I've heard of the Brooks family in California. They're super wealthy and popular.”
“Yeah,” Elodre bobbed slightly.
“You must be a lucky and blessed woman, ma'am,” He smiled.
“B…but I want my husband…” She wept.
Studying her closely, he blew out heavily and looked in another direction. He contemplated and gazed at her. “So, the issue is just about your son. Now, your husband believes you cheated on him.”
“He's furious at me…and…” She sniffled, feeling a drastic headache. “And… doesn't wanna see me.”
“So he hit you on your eye?” Doctor Maximiliano asked.
“Yes, in anger,” She cried. “W…when my sister-in-law set me up.”
He sighed. The case was tough for real. He sighed. “Have you run your son’s DNA to know his real dad?”
And Elodre's eyes widened. “DNA??!” She gasped. “I…I don't wanna d…do that…”
Doctor Maximiliano Lane raised a brow. “Reason?”
“I…I'm afraid…” She sobbed.
“Afraid?” He asked.
