Chapter 51
Rhiannon was stunned and at the same time confused.
She raised her head turned her gaze from the things that were in the box and looked at him.
“What?” she asked.
“What’s your mother’s name? What’s their family’s name? Where does she come from?” Octavius asked question after question causing Rhiannon to frown as she didn’t like how she was questioning her.
Seeing her frown and anger in her eyes, Octavius knew that he had definitely closed the line but what could he do? What he needed to know was an urgent thing.
“I am sorry for invading your privacy and asking you this question but can you please tell me the answer? It’s very urgent,” Octavius said causing Rhiannon to stare at him for a long.
She opened her mouth to speak then shut it up immediately.
‘Keep them safe. If you ever meet anyone who identifies any of the jewels you have and their origin, you must deny everything. Tell them that you don’t know my surname! The people closest to you are the ones who hurt you the most. So dear, don’t trust anyone with the jewels, If they dare fall into the wrong hands, everything that I worked hard for and sacrificed will be in vain.”
Rhiannon recalled her mother’s words after she took the box. She never understood anything. She thought that her mother didn’t know what she was speaking about.
After all, how can the closest people around you hurt you the most? But after her death, she started understanding everything. From her father’s betrayal when he brought his other family home to Kaylee always slandering her, to her almost being killed by her fiancé and her sister to now. She understood everything and also understood that her mother had a reason to tell her those words.
She had seen how powerful the ring was thus, she knew that the ‘special necklace’ was special and could help her out too. She knew that since her mother told her to hide them well, there must be people after the jewels.
Yes, she was married to Octavius but she didn’t know him much.
“I don’t know, she never told anyone her family’s name,” Rhiannon said as she stared at Octavius for a while so that her words may seem believable before averting her gaze.
“What about her name?” Octavius asked stubbornly as he wasn’t ready to give up.
Rhiannon frowned as she felt a wave of anger stirring up. She closed her eyes for a while and opened them when she had lowered her head then looked up at Octavius.
“What? You don’t want to even tell me her name? Don’t you trust your husband? I trusted you and told you about my family but you don’t want to tell me anything about our mother?” Octavius said in a disappointed tone and his eyes filled with sadness stunning Rhiannon.
‘What a good actor! I was even about to be fooled by him but what he just said is true,’ Rhiannon said inwardly. ‘But what about my mom’s name? I don’t know about his family so well so can I trust him fully?’
She stared at him as if she had an internal conflict that didn’t escape Octavius' eyes.
He pursed his mouth as he knew that the woman in front of him didn’t trust him at all. He felt a wave of heartbreak but what else could he do?
“My mother’s name was Angela,” she said as she gritted her teeth.
She hated lying and never felt good when doing so.
Octavius was surprised when he heard her saying her mother’s name and felt a bit of joy as it meant that she trusted but he caught something he wasn’t supposed to. He saw her gritted her teeth stunning him for a while then understood what was going on.
She had lied about her mother’s name! He felt angry but he didn’t dare show it as he was also asking with a motive.
“What have you said her name is?” He asked once more but a little bit colder than before.
Rhiannon was shocked by her cold his tone was and didn’t know what to do. She was also angry at him.
“I said her name is Angela! Do you have an issue with that name? Or do you think that I am lying to you?” Rhiannon asked coldly as she stared at him.
“Yes,” Octavius said but regretted just when he had said that.
Rhiannon was taken by surprise when he heard his direct words.
“What I mean is no. But the necklace is very familiar to me. It is the necklace given to the heir of one of the most prominent families back in the capital,” He explained himself as he didn’t want him to misunderstand or be angry at him.
Rhiannon was once more surprised when she heard him say that. She had always known that her mother’s background didn’t seem ordinary since she had been told her mother had come to the town with the money and slowly built her business empire. But what she never expected was that it was that good. Even so, she wondered what had happened between her mother and her family.
Although after hearing it, she wanted to tell Octavius her mother’s real identity, she didn’t want to risk it. For, she didn’t know whether her family was the one who kicked her out or ran away. Also, from what her mother had said, there were some people after the ring and had been keeping it safe.
Without being told anything or a word, Rhiannon knew that if her mother’s family hadn’t cut ties with her but she ran away, she must have run away because of the people chasing after what was on her hands. She didn’t know her mother’s enemies so she felt she needed to be careful with the information she revealed. As she could be in danger or her mother’s family to be in danger.
Octavius watched her silent look and knew that she was in deep thought. He hoped that the latter would at least trust him for once but sadly, he was meant to get disappointed as Rhiannon would always listen to her mother’s words after being taught by her closest people a lesson.
“Oh. But I don’t think that that is her family. If Mother was from such a prominent family, what could she be doing in such a small city? She has been here even before it was transformed into a city.
Octavius was disappointed but knew that he couldn’t say anything else if she really didn’t want to tell him.
He also remembered that her half-sister had said her mother’s name. Although he couldn’t really remember the name, he remembered that it wasn’t starting with ‘A’ as she had said.
“But that isn’t the name I heard your half-sister mentioning. Although I can’t remember, I can tell,” Octavius said making Rhiannon glare at him.
‘Why is this man really difficult to deal with today?’ she asked herself but at the same time, she remembered a secret her mother had told her that only she and her nanny Mary knew.
‘Remember, my name isn’t Sabrina Sanders but Celestine Sanders. Your nanny’s name isn’t Mary but Mariana,”
Rhiannon was stunned as she had long forgotten that. She never gave a thought of everything and when her mother told her, she thought that the latter was just joking but after being almost burnt to death and the ring saving her and everything that was happening in front of her she knew that there had t be a reason for her mother to even hide her real identity from her father.
“Rhiannon, I never lied about my mom’s name but you are lying about yours. If we even can’t trust each other, then how can our marriage work even if we want it to work?” Octavius asked as he wanted to know.
He felt that if he knew, he could keep her safe as he remembered her father telling her that there was an organization that was after the Sanders young miss
Since his wife’s mother died, if the organization found that she died, they would retreat but if they found out that she had a daughter, they would come after the daughter.
Rhiannon felt bad about lying when she heard his words then inwardly smirked.
‘Since everyone here knows that my mother’s name is Sabrina Sanders, I think that it is safe if I say that, right? After all, I won’t be lying as people knew that is her name here. That way, I won’t be disappointed and disobey my mother and at the same time, make him know that I ‘trust him’.
“Sorry. Mother forbade me to tell her name to people whom I don’t know well. Although we are married, I haven’t met your family and know what kind of people they are and we have just been married for a few weeks and we were strangers before that. I hope you can understand,” Rhiannon said in an apologetic tone.
Before Octavius said a word, he heard her saying, “But I will tell you. If you dare tell anyone else or keep me in danger or make her family that didn’t love her and chase her out find me, I will give you a divorce.”
“Her name was Sabrina Sanders. The Sanders family from the north and not the capital,” Rhiannon said.
“To everyone, my name will always be Sabrina Sanders. If they ask which Sander, from the north. I took care of everything on that side.”
Octavius stared at her wanting to see through her but he was unable.
Rhiannon smirked as she saw how he was staring at her.
‘Go and do your digging! There is no way you can defeat my mother’s methods. She made ways and everything for me before she died! She is unstoppable even after her death.’
Rhiannon was in a good mood as she had gotten her ‘family heirlooms’ and also remembered her mother’s casual words. Now, she understood that every word her mother said when they were playing or eating, was for a reason.
“Are you sure?”
