Chapter 75 NO ONE WILL, GRACE
CHAPTER 75
RYAN'S POV
NO ONE WILL, GRACE
I wasn't aware of my surroundings, I didn't know that someone was even knocking on the door.
I sat down on my cold floor in my dark sitting room, my back against the wall, my hand pressed to my busted lip. Jeremy hit me harder than anyone has ever dared to. My throbbed head, and my eyes burned with hate, my breathing came with pain.
Jeremy's voice still played in my head.
“I told you not to come near her.”
He didn't even hesitate before throwing me against the wall, and I tasted blood and he left me like trash.
“Bastard,” I muttered. Because of Grace, she has told him damaging things about me.
The thought of them together happily kills me. They were talking in hushed tones, when I watched them. Jeremy was certainly smitten by that whore.
I squeezed my eyes shut in pain, my nails digging into my palm.
I walked home after running like a coward, replaying their love for each other in my head. Jeremy's hands on Grace, she's smiling and loving it. To me Grace chose him over me.
That was a declaration of war, because something snapped as I walked home. I didn't heal because I didn't want to.
The knock came harder again, this time the door was cracked open, and the lights were turned on.
“Baby?” Came Mackena’s voice through the silence. “Are you okay? Oh my God.”
She bent down and looked at me closely, my eyes adjusted to the brightness. I was on the floor, dried blood on my lips, a broken rib and a bitter heart.
“Jeremy did this right?” she demanded, turning my face, her rage swelling like a tide.
I didn't respond to her, I just stared blankly at the wall.
Mackena sat down beside me, her scent filling my nostrils. “He did this, didn't he? Answer me?”
I balled my fist and she smiled, a curved triumphant one.
“I've seen them,” she muttered, like she was offering me poison. “Grace and Jeremy are together. She's been seeing him for a while.”
I suspected this but hearing it, is like a confirmation that stilled me.
“She's fucking him,” Mackena said watching me closely. “Officer Jeremy.”
Something animalistic rose inside me. I clenched my jaw tight, my breathing became shallow.
“Grace….” my voice cracked. “She is mine.”
I meant every word about this. I hated myself so much for this truth.
Mackena was furious but she smirked. Because she wanted this chaos.
“Then destroy her now,” she whispered. “Tell everyone she's a murderer. She killed your father.”
My head snapped towards her immediately, as memories flooded me entirely.
I was sixteen again, sitting at the bottom of the stairs. Listening to dad threaten, Grace. After he was already done with her, I could hear her choked sobs.
I knew father was hurting her, and I loved the power he had over her. I wanted to have total control of her too. So I followed suit in my father's footsteps, threatening to expose her as a whore.
I remembered the night she snapped and killed father. She tried to kill me too but she failed.
“Son,” father gasped. “Do…”
Dad said to me as I was on the floor bleeding out. He never got to finish that sentence.
At the funeral, she never showed up and I touched the coffin. As it was being lowered whispering through clenched teeth.
“I'll make her pay one day, Dad. I swear it, I swear.”
I believed that promise just like now. My fists were trembling.
“You didn't tell me everything,” she pushed. “So tell me the other thing she did. You've never shared that with me.”
That was another secret that I'll never tell. I'll never tell anyone that I watched my father, rape Grace. I saw dad force her once, and how that broke her. I also saw the aftermath of that, the emptiness, silence and loneliness she endured.
Children will always copy what they see. Sometimes out of fear, or curiosity but trauma rewrites everything.
I hated my dad for what he did. But I never hated myself for following in that footsteps.
“That's enough,” I barked. “That's my secret to keep.”
Mackena frowned. “Why do you protect her?”
”Am I?” I rose from the floor. “You want her gone. I want her broken, there's a difference.”
Something flickered in her, but she couldn't place it, fear or excitement.
I walked to the window, staring out to the fog covered street. I imagined Grace and Jeremy together, happy and fucking each other.
I hated that feeling so much. I hated that she was moving on, healing without me.
“She thinks she can replace me,” I muttered. “She thinks she can move on without me.”
This thought freaks me out, that I walked towards a small wooden box. It was owned by my father. My hands shook as I opened it.
A handgun lay inside there, polished and loaded just waiting for me.
“Ryan,” Mackena called out with wide eyes. “What are you going to do?”
I checked the bullet chamber with a straight face.
“Tonight,” I said softly. “She dies begging me.”
I slipped the gun into my jacket and swung the door open. The cold air hit me like a warm up.
“Ryan?” Mackena grabbed my arm. “Are you sure about this?”
I turned and looked at her, my eyes blazing and burning at the same time.
“Everything's clear now, Mackena.” I kissed her lips. “Don't wait for me.”
I walked out the door free and into the cold night. Walked with purpose and precision. I could feel my obsession and grief curdled into something sinister.
Every step brought me closer to her house. Every breath I took a reminder of my jealousy, fastened around my throat. I had my goal in my head, I needed to show her that no one will save her from me. She can't ever think of escaping me, because I can't escape from myself.
I whispered this to myself. “If I can't have you Grace. Not even the ground will, because you're mine.”
