Chapter 98: Wrath of the hybrid
Chapter 98: Wrath of the hybrid
Kieran knew something was wrong the moment he heard that roar. It wasn't the sound of the Immortals.
He turned back to Julian to see him smiling viciously. The bastard tricked him.
Suddenly Julian pulled out a metal syringe and stabbed it into his neck.
He shoved him away and ripped out the syringe. The smell was unmistakable. Aconite, and a hint of something else. But it was no use because he was immune to it.
Suddenly an army of werewolves and Wildings burst through the forest into the pack, snarling and growling loudly.
From the midst of the intruders, Ragnar stepped forward. He had a menacing grin on his face, and the scar slashed across his eye made him more terrifying.
Kieran glared at him as he walked forward. It was a good thing Ryder had taken the pack members to safety, because he knew a fierce battle was about to break out.
"Whatever it is you're doing, Ragnar, stop it before it's too late." He growled. "I won't hold back, and neither will my pack."
"Do the worst you can, Kieran." Ragnar retorted. "It's time you're uprooted from your throne. Your reign as king of the realm ends tonight, and another legacy begins."
Ragnar's army roared in response. As for Kieran, he didn't attack immediately. He'd be damned before he gave up his throne, but something was stopping him.
Gwendolyn. He had to get her to safety before anything else.
He instantly called for her through the mind link, but instead, an excruciating pain slammed into his head.
He shut his eyes with a painful groan. What the hell was happening? Why couldn't he use the mind link?
He tried again, and the same thing happened. The pain intensified and he fell down on one knee.
Ragnar noticed and laughed madly. "Don't bother using the mind link, Kieran. You can't reach your precious mate."
"What did you do?" Kieran snarled angrily.
"You might be immune to aconite and stonedust. But when they're mixed together, even you don't stand a chance."
That was when Kieran realized that Julian didn't just stab him with aconite. It was mixed with stonedust and it finally pierced through his immunity.
"Release the Onyx, Kieran!" Ragnar yelled. "Give up your Alpha title and your throne to the realm!"
Kieran slowly rose to his feet. He looked up, and Ragnar noticed that his eyes had changed into glowing red orbs. His fangs pushed out, his sharp claws slowly emerging.
But he didn't attack, not when his top priority was Gwendolyn.
"I swear, Ragnar, you will die tonight." He growled and whirled around.
He raced towards the pack house, his form blurring rapidly.
Ragnar noticed where he was headed and chased after him.
\[DESTROY THEM ALL!\] He roared to his army through the mind link.
They went into action instantly, clashing heavily with Kieran's warriors. The air filled up with roars and growls as both Wildings and werewolves clashed in battle.
As Kieran got closer to the pack house, he tried the mind link again, but the same sharp pain returned.
He couldn't reach Gwendolyn, and he couldn't communicate with his pack members.
His wings tore out and he ascended into the air, flying straight towards the bedroom.
Ragnar crashed into him suddenly. The two fought mid air, amidst growls and roars, their wings flapping wildly.
At that moment, Kieran spotted someone running towards the pack house. He squinted his eyes, and his rage increased when he saw it was Julian.
In that split second, he got distracted, giving Ragnar the opportunity to knock him back to the ground.
He fell with a heavy thud, raising dust and debris. He barely managed to roll away before Ragnar came crashing down on him.
He jumped to his feet, and his eyes strayed over to the pack house. He panicked when he noticed Dom on the ground, unmoving.
Before he could move towards the pack house again, Ragnar attacked him, his claws and wings slicing through the air towards him.
In a fit of rage, he grabbed Ragnar around the throat. His claws dug into his skin as he lifted him into the air.
Ragnar struggled against his tight hold, choking heavily, his legs flaying. Terror flashed across his eyes when he noticed Kieran's murderous glare. The red haze in his eyes was terrifying.
He had underestimated him. He thought if he was distracted with the thought of saving Gwendolyn, he would be vulnerable. How wrong he was.
Kieran's claws tightened as he pressed down on Ragnar's throat.
"Kieran......" Ragnar choked, but his pleas were silenced.
"You made the greatest mistake thinking you could take my pack, Ragnar." Kieran snarled coldly. "I should have killed you when I had the chance. But this time, there will be no mistake."
He lowered him, grabbed both his wings in one hand and ripped it off. Blood sputtered out in great gouts as Ragnar howled in pain.
His howls silenced instantly when Kieran crushed his throat, severing his head from the rest of his body.
Ragnar's lifeless body dropped to the ground, and Kieran hurried back to the pack house.
Dom was climbing to his feet when he spotted Kieran heading towards him. He looked disoriented, and the wound in his head slowly healed.
"Alpha..." He began, but Kieran shoved past him with an order.
"Join the battle! Now!"
Kieran burst into the pack house and made for the stairs.
"GWEN!" He yelled.
When her response didn't come, his panic increased. He kicked the door to the room open and froze on the spot.
She was gone.
He turned and exited the room, trying to follow her scent. He could perceive it faintly, but when he tried to follow it, it disappeared.
He rushed towards the back door only to find it open. There was no sign of her. She was gone.
He stood there as his fury mounted. Instantly he retreated, giving way to his demon and his wolf at the same time.
His body twitched as he shifted into his lycan form for the very first time. Black fur sprouted out of his arms. His claws grew larger, and so did his form.
When his transformation completed, he raised his head and let out an ear shattering roar.
Outside, where the battle was still raging on, Ryder froze. That roar. He knew it. It had been years since he heard it, and it still sent chills down his spine every time.
Kieran had transformed into his hybrid form.
The whole of Ragnar's army were oblivious to the chaos approaching as they continued to battle.
But the warriors of Nightshade knew, and they were ready.
Ryder turned to Dom who was a few meters away. They both nodded and Dom's eyes fogged as he mind linked the other warriors.
They retreated suddenly, disappearing into the forest to hide.
Ragnar's army cheered loudly, thinking they had won the battle.
Suddenly the pack house erupted with a loud boom. Kieran shot through the roof and ascended into the sky, his entire form blazing with flames.
He opened his mouth and poured a river of flames to the earth.
