Chapter 92: Undo what was done
Chapter 92: Undo what was done
Gwendolyn raised her head in surprise. She hadn't expected him to say that.
"Kieran, she bears your mark. That makes her your mate, even though she isn't your fated mate. How will you change that?"
Kieran sat up and took her hands. "Let me explain it to you, my love. When Medea was chosen, a ritual was performed."
"What ritual?"
"A bonding ritual, to keep her bound to me." Kieran explained. "Something similar to the mate bond, but not as strong. I didn't want her. I was ready to wait till eternity to find you. But the laws of the Triad stated that I needed an heir, and Medea was a Wilding from a strong bloodline. So she was chosen."
He brought her hands to his lips and kissed it. "I mated with her and marked her, and a week later, she conceived. But Medea went wild. She wanted to be crowned my Luna so badly."
"Weren't you worried you would find your mate someday?"
"I wasn't planning on staying with Medea forever. The bond was temporary. She only had to give me an heir. But she wanted more. She wanted to be Luna. When she lost the child, I told her I was done. I was going to break the bond. That's when she lost her mind. She disappeared the next morning, leaving a note behind."
Gwendolyn exhaled softly. Now that he explained everything, she felt bad for losing control and almost hurting Cae.
"If you had told me about Medea, none of this would have happened." She murmured. "I would have been prepared."
"I know that now, my love. And I'm so sorry I kept it from you. I swear on my life, I'll share everything with you from now on. I promise."
She smiled and touched his face. "There's something I still don't understand."
"What is it?"
"How will you erase your mark on her?"
"With the same ritual that bound her to me." Kieran said. "After Medea left, I warned the Triad never to bring up the issue of taking a chosen mate."
"I don't trust the Triad. It seems they're all out to betray you. First it was Thorak and Zeke. Now, Lilithia. What if Talon and the others betray you too?"
"If there's one person I trust completely, it's Talon. He may be arrogant, but he's completely loyal. As for the other two, Khraven and Nyxoria, they're under constant watch."
"Everything keeps getting complicated." She sighed. "Julian is gone. We don't know what Lilithia is planning. Ragnar is waiting in the shadows. Your father has my mother. And my powers are getting out of control. I don't know a thing about controlling it."
"Gwen, look at me." Kieran gently cupped her face. "We'll tackle them all, one at a time. And we'll find your mother. I promise."
She sighed for the umpteenth time and nodded. "I'm sorry I lost control."
"No, don't do that." He kissed her sweetly. "It wasn't your fault. And I'm sure Cae knows that too."
"I feel so bad. I was going to take out the child."
Kieran held her close and shut his eyes. When Cae mind linked him earlier, he had stormed out of the pack in great fear, shoving Medea out of his way and hurrying down to her cottage.
"You were angry, and I understand that." He said finally. "But it's all over. Come back home with me."
"I don't want to see Medea." She shook her head.
"My love, you are going to be her Luna. No Luna of mine will hide away from a common Wilding. I'll send her out of the pack house, but I need you beside me. Do you understand?"
She nodded. "I do. I'm just worried I would lose control when I see her."
"For once, I wouldn't mind if you lost control and fought her like you did with Kane."
She realized he was teasing and laughed. But despite everything, a disturbing feeling remained within her, like a foreboding. She couldn't shake the feeling off.
As Kieran helped her up and led her to the door, she looked towards the cracks on the wall and the messy room.
Suddenly, something clicked into place in her mind.
"Kieran, wait." She stopped him.
"What's wrong?"
"I want to try something." She pulled away from him and walked towards the wall.
The cracks had a strange pattern. They merged at every point before running in a jagged line towards the floor. When she looked at the cracks on the floor, she realized they were all merged too.
"I just have to undo it." She whispered.
Kieran watched her silently without interruption.
She placed her hands on the wall and shut her eyes. The black webs appeared instantly, coating her skin. A red glow appeared on her hands, and as she concentrated, the glow followed the jagged lines of cracks.
Kieran stood awe struck, watching as the cracks on the wall began to close up. It started from the floor, retracting slowly, like everything that happened was now in reverse.
The broken shelves were lifted, the potted plants and soil restored. The room returned to the way it was before her powers broke free.
When she finished, the black lines disappeared and she opened her eyes with a sharp gasp.
She turned around, staring unbelievably at the room. When she looked at Kieran, there were tears in her eyes.
"Goddess above." Kieran whispered. "How did you do that?"
"I remembered something from the flashback I had." Gwendolyn smiled. "And I realized that my powers can be used for good too. I just had to undo what was done."
Kieran pulled her close. "The power of life and death in your palm." He murmured. "That was what Gremory said. The Sorcerer who made you."
She swayed suddenly and collapsed against him. Her magic drained her strength.
Kieran lifted her into his arms and turned around.
"Let's go home."
...
Medea was sprawled across the bed in a lewd position. She had taken off her dress, dressed in just a light nightgown.
Before Kieran left the pack house, he ordered her to leave. But she didn't. Deep down, she thought she still had him wrapped around her fingers.
She smelled his scent before he opened the door. She started to smile, but another scent mixed with his.
The scent of a lycan. His mate.
Her smile dropped, replaced with a deep frown.
She sat up just as Kieran opened the door and stepped in with Gwendolyn beside him.
The moment Gwendolyn spotted Medea, her anger spiked. And so did Kieran's.
"Medea, I told you to get out!" He snapped. "I'm breaking the bond between us."
"You wouldn't dare!" Medea snapped back. "I don't care if that mutt is your mate! I bore your mark first!"
Gwendolyn stormed over to the bed in anger when Medea called her a mutt. She wouldn't let one more Wilding disrespect her.
The moment she grabbed Medea's arm, a torrent of images flashed through her mind. It was so quick, but it was clear.
She looked back at Kieran in shock. "She's lying about the child. It wasn't yours."
