Chapter 62 Chapter 0062

Chapter 62 Chapter 0062
•NADIA•

I kept reciting the words I would say to Mason when I arrived in the pack house so he wouldn't suspect me of being responsible for Jane and Liam's deaths.

I knew the elders wouldn't hesitate to order their execution once Elder Draven had spoken to the rest of them.

I was surprised when I noticed that Mason wasn't home. The living room was empty.

The housekeepers walked by and said nothing to me, even though they could see I was looking for him.

Mason usually informed someone when he left the pack house, especially after the argument we had earlier, but no one had mentioned seeing him since he walked out of the bedroom.

I frowned and began walking toward his office because that was the one place he always went when he wanted to think or work without being disturbed.

As I turned into the hallway that led to the office, someone suddenly stepped out from the opposite direction and almost bumped into me.

I stopped.

Rowen stood in front of me. He was starting to irritate me each day when I was supposed to play pretend with him.

His eyes were his mother's and having to look at them and pretend I loved him as my stepson was horrific.

“Have you seen my father?” he asked after a few seconds. "I wanted to show him what I learned today at the warrior's academy. He will be proud of me."

“I don’t know where your father is,” I answered, and almost rolled my eyes. "There's nothing to show your father for learning something that you should know at your age."

"I thought—"

"You thought nothing, Rowan," I said, interrupting him. "You are your mother's son, aren't you?" I tilted my head and scoffed. "You think you can get everything you want without working for it, and then you want to be congratulated for doing the bare minimum."

He swallowed and fidgeted a little. It was actually funny.

I stepped back from him and straightened my back. "Go to your room, and think about your actions. You're grounded until I say otherwise."

"Did I do something wrong, Mom?" He asked, his voice low and pathetic. "I am sorry if I offended you."

"You didn't offend me, little rascal," I looked down at him and folded my arms across my chest. "But you're not my favorite anymore. I can't stand a spoiled brat."

"I'm sorry."

"What are you sorry about?" I rolled my eyes. "I am not your mother, so it doesn't bother me what you do. Your mother will be the disappointed one when she finds out how weak you are."

“Now get out of my sight,” I added coldly.

The boy lowered his gaze and stepped aside without saying another word.

I didn’t look back at him as I continued walking down the hallway.

When I finally reached Mason’s office, I pushed the door open and stepped inside.

The room was empty.

The large desk near the window was covered with papers, and his laptop was still open as if he had left in a hurry.

I walked closer and glanced down at the screen.

At first, I thought I was looking at normal pack reports, but when I read the words more carefully, my eyes narrowed.

Cassandra.

Her name appeared in the search history.

There were notes about locations, travel routes, and even reports from scouts who had recently returned from the borders of the territory.

For several seconds I stared at the screen while anger slowly began to rise inside my chest.

“So this is where you went,” I muttered under my breath.

Mason had been searching for her.

After everything that had happened, after all the accusations and suspicions that had filled the pack for years, he was still chasing after the woman who had been banished.

I closed the laptop and then took out my phone from my pocket.

There was only one person who needed to hear this news.

The phone rang twice before the call was answered.

"Hey Nadia," he answered. "I was about to call you. Is everything alright?"

"No," I sighed. "Mason still insists that I had something to do with his near-death experience, and I don't think he'd want me to offer him anything to eat or drink anymore."

There was a brief pause before he spoke again. “What do you want us to do?”

“I thought you would like to know something interesting,” I said as I leaned against Mason’s desk and crossed my arms.

“Go on.”

“Mason has been searching for Cassandra’s whereabouts,” I answered, rolling my eyes. “And judging by the information in his office, he is already on the road looking for her.”

"What do you think he wants with her?" He asked. "Is he suspecting something between us?"

"No, of course not," I answered, my voice sharp. "I think he wants to confront her in person if she had used Jane to poison him. Which means now is the right time to act, Ronan. We won't have another chance to get rid of him as Alpha."
