Chapter 248
Chapter 248
Mary POV
It's the week before the Coronation, and I couldn't be prouder of my son and his mate. Lewana's pregnancy has improved a lot with rest and a reduction in stress. She still has to take it easy, but we have had no more scares since that horrible night.
Conrad is being incredibly loving and attentive to her. His faith in the pack is amazing to see, and he seems a lot less stressed than he was a year ago. I know this is completely due to Lewana coming into our lives, and I couldn't be happier.
All the Alpha starts arriving today. Conrad changed the invitation again to only include the most trusted Alphas. The ones that have stood by us and defended us in our time of need. Those who truly support Lewana. Only 12 are coming with a limited membership pack. Everyone knows Lewana is due to give birth very soon and knows the protective measures that have been put in place.
Half coming today, half coming tomorrow. Then three days of meetings about rebuilding our world, and then the coronation.
I honestly couldn't give two hoots about any of that. I have been meal prepping my heart out so I can spend as much time with the pups and Lewana when they are born. She will need someone to look after and care for her, to do night shifts when she needs to rest. I have even started making healing bath salts, preparing tea, and making snacks to help with milk production.
I know she still technically has three weeks to go, but twins always come early. I also trust the Moon Goddess refuses to let her grandpups be born on a new moon after what the shadows recently tried. I know she will protect them after everything we have lost. I can feel it.
I'm humming to myself and singing some of the Elvis song I listen to with Arthur when I hear the kitchen door open. I call out as I get something from the fridge.
"Liam, you can't be back for more cookies already. You'll ruin your appetite for dinner".
"So this is where you have been hiding, you cursed bitch".
I know that voice. My blood freezes in my veins, causing my hands to seize and drop the jug of juice, which shatters on the floor.
My ex-mate.
I can't stop the tremble that enters my voice. "What are you doing here, Hector?"
He has not aged well. He has a bald spot on his head and is very overweight. His beer belly hangs over and struggles to be contained within his shirt.
He snarls back at me. "I could scent your stench the second I walked through those doors. You cursed me when you left. I took another mate, and even she couldn't give me a pup".
I snap back. "If you never had a pup, then you're the problem. I know I couldn't. Anything that happened in your life after you discarded me has nothing to do with me. Get out of my kitchen".
I remember my training and stand my ground. I remember where everything is in my kitchen. There is a heavy pan over the stove top on my left that I can use. The knife drawer is on my right. The door right behind is for escape if needed. I paused and waited for him to move.
He started running towards my right, so I ran to the stove to grab the pan. I turned and swung it full force, but he was expecting me. He grabbed the pan by the handle, yanked it from me.
SLAP.
He struck me across the face, and I hit my head on the way down, instantly feeling the blood run down my forehead, and my ears started to ring.
"Still use your same bullshit defense methods. Even after all these years, you are still so predictable".
He moved to kick me, but I blocked it with my arm, and they took the force. Nothing broken, but will definitely have bruises. I try to push myself up, but get a small cut on my hand from the shattered glass on the floor.
"What's happening in here then?"
Hector freezes and looks at the doorway where Lewana is standing. He tried to turn on the charm and bowed to her.
"My Luna Queen. The pathetic Omega is from my pack. She was banished for failing me as a mate and is now tainting your household. I was teaching her a lesson before I informed my Alpha to drag her back for punishment".
Lewana raises an eyebrow. "Punishment. And what would her crime be?"
"Falsifying her pack record as she was made a Rogue when banished".
Lewana doesn't reply. We wait in silence for a few seconds when the door to the kitchen opens again. In walks Conrad, Liam, and Arthur. Their eyes all instantly flash from there, wolves surfacing. Lewana is clearly holding them back. For now.
She turns to Conrad. "Glad you're here, my love. This is a Gamma from Alpha Leroy pack, and this Omega's is his ex-mate. Apparently, he wanted to teach her a lesson as he believes she is a rogue and misrepresenting herself".
Hector puffs out his chest and looks straight at my boys. "That's right, my Alpha King. You know the North will always serve you".
Conrad stalks forward. I can tell from his breathing that he is trying to stay calm but is barely holding onto Jace. Liam and Arthur are ready to kill him, but are waiting for the orders.
Conrad starts calmly but quickly escalates. "So let me make sure I am understanding you. You come into my territory, make decisions about my pack member for me, and then strike MY MOTHER".
The colour drains from Hector's face immediately. Liam and Arthur stalk forward with the look of predators finding prey.
Lewana commands the room to stop like a true Luna Queen. "Mary, come with me for medical care. And boys. Whatever you are planning, take it outside. Removing blood from the Oak table will be a nightmare".
I get up, clutching my hand, and walk over to her, and she guides me out of the room. As soon as the door shuts, I hear roars and flinch, but she remains stoic.
She guides me to the nearby lounge and gently looks at my hand and head.
"I have called for a medic, and they are bringing everything I need".
That's when I break down into ugly sobs.
"I'm so sorry, Lewana. I should have called the boys myself. I just panicked when I saw him and froze. Are you OK? I must have caused you so much stress to deal with that. You need to relax after that. I'll go to the medical centre myself and get back to cooking dinner".
I try to leave, but she holds my hand tight and lifts my chin to look into her eyes. "I'm OK. It will cause me stress to not look after you, so let me".
