Chapter 85: Her Future Plans Do Not Include Joshua
Joshua's eyes gradually turned cold.
Ava moved her lips, "There's no reason. Our marriage back then was a mistake. I paid for my mistake. From the moment I signed the divorce papers, I never planned to remarry you. No, it's not that I didn't plan to—I never even thought about it."
After she left five years ago, she had already prepared herself to be strangers with Joshua from then on. Because of Victor, she needed to go to the Thomas Villa, which led to all this entanglement with him—this was already far beyond her expectations.
So after curing Victor, she planned to take the two children back to Astoria.
She... didn't have Joshua in her plans for the future!
So regarding Joshua's proposal, she just brushed it off with a smile.
The next morning, sunlight poured through the glass window, falling on Ava's delicate face.
Joshua had left without a word last night, clearly angry.
When she woke up this morning, sitting by the hospital bed was a stern-faced Gilbert.
"You're awake." As Ava tried to get up, Gilbert helped her.
"Gilbert?" Ava's eyes casually swept around the room, not seeing that person's figure. She paused slightly—last night seemed like a dream.
She looked at Gilbert, "Why... are you here?"
"If it weren't for morning rounds, I wouldn't have known you were injured, and so badly at that." Gilbert's gentle voice was serious, tinged with deep displeasure.
Ava smiled lightly and said softly, "I'm fine, don't worry. It's just a minor injury. I'm almost healed and can be discharged in a few days."
"Minor injury? Do you need me to get you a mirror to see what your head looks like all bandaged up? And you say you're fine—what would count as serious?" Gilbert was very angry at Ava's nonchalance.
Ava's eyes shifted, and hearing him say this, she unconsciously touched her head, "I guess it does look pretty bad."
"..." Gilbert gritted his teeth, quite frustrated. When he told her to look in the mirror, was he asking her to check if it looked bad?
"Alright, stop touching it." Seeing her like this, Gilbert's handsome face showed helplessness. He stood up, "I ordered porridge for you, the kind you usually like. Get up and eat."
Ava didn't refuse. Since he had already brought it, she had no reason not to eat, and she was indeed hungry. She got out of bed to wash up in the bathroom. When she came out, Gilbert had already served it for her, "Come eat."
Ava nodded, "Thank you. Have you eaten? There's so much, I can't finish it all. Let's eat together."
Gilbert paused, "Okay." He probably hadn't eaten either, so he picked up a small bowl and served himself some from the thermos.
Just as Ava picked up her spoon to eat, there was a knock on the door.
"Come in."
As the cool voice fell, the door opened. A man in a sharp suit walked in, his stunningly handsome face expressionless. Behind him followed Hayden with his usual carefree manner, and then Samuel carrying two large bags of fancy food boxes.
Ava's gaze fell on Joshua, her eyes freezing for a moment. Joshua's face was cold and stern, without a trace of warmth.
Suddenly, the already cool hospital room felt even colder.
Ava was stunned for a moment, then withdrew her gaze. Looking at Joshua's face, cold enough to destroy everything, and thinking of that inexplicable kiss last night, Ava lowered her head, a blush creeping onto her cheeks.
Seeing this, Joshua mistakenly thought she and Gilbert had been doing something, which was why her face was flushed.
Thinking this, his expression grew even darker.
Standing nearby, Hayden and Samuel were shivering from the increasingly intense cold.
Ava pressed her lips together. She had thought that after what she said last night, he would leave angry and not come back. She was indeed surprised to see him this morning.
Seeing him staring at her like that, Ava felt uncomfortable all over. She put down her spoon and asked, "Do you still have something to say?"
Joshua's lips curled coldly, about to speak, when Hayden, always good at reading the room and afraid Joshua might say something harsh in his current mood, rushed to Ava's side first. He pulled up a chair and sat down, saying, "Ava, I heard you were injured, so I came to check on you because I care about you. But the one who's most worried about you is still Joshua, right? Joshua."
Joshua glanced at him coldly without speaking.
Hayden laughed awkwardly and kept giving Joshua meaningful looks.
Joshua, say something! Can't you see there's a rival here? If you don't show some attitude, Ava will be stolen away.
Joshua ignored him, so Hayden turned to Ava with a cheerful smile, "It's okay Ava, Joshua's just shy."
Ava, who was drinking water, suddenly choked.
Gilbert immediately tried to pat Ava's back, but was pushed away by Hayden.
"What are you doing?" Gilbert's face darkened.
"What are YOU doing?" Hayden asked back with a stern face. Was Ava someone just anyone could touch?
Ava caught her breath.
"What exactly are you all here for?"
To scare her?
Joshua shy? Did his gloomy face have anything to do with being shy?
Hayden gave Samuel a look—no matter what, they couldn't lose face.
Samuel was quick to catch on and immediately set down the food boxes. "Ms. Davis, Mr. Thomas specially ordered breakfast for you."
He then bowed slightly to Ava, "Ms. Davis, please enjoy."
Ava looked at the small table already full and overflowing with breakfast items, her brow twitching, "This..."
"Ava, eat this." Hayden eagerly served Ava a small bowl of porridge, disdainfully pushing Gilbert's porridge aside.
"This..." Ava was truly at a loss.
"What's wrong Ava, eat up." Hayden blinked, as if eagerly anticipating Ava eating.
"She doesn't like pumpkin." Gilbert, sitting across from Ava, said coldly.
"How do you know my Ava doesn't like it? My sister-in-law loves pumpkin, right Ava?"
Ava looked at Hayden helplessly, "I really don't like pumpkin much."
"..." Hayden said, "No problem, there's other stuff..."
They must have ordered every single porridge from the entire porridge shop.
Ava raised her hand to brush her hair, feeling rather helpless.
"You clearly don't know what she likes to eat, so you just packed everything." Gilbert moved the porridge that had been placed in front of him, his lips curling slightly as he exposed the truth.
