Chapter 48 Joshua Cares About Ava
Finn quickly changed the subject.
Buddy was originally meant to be a birthday gift for Ava from Finn. Today, because of the emergency, he had to use it early. Now Buddy was at the Thomas Villa, and he still had to figure out a way to get Buddy back.
"Is that really what happened?" Ava blinked and asked suspiciously.
"Yes, yes." Cleo nodded in agreement.
"So instead of sleeping late at night, you two were messing around with this?"
"Yes, yes!" Cleo kept nodding.
"So Cleo wasn't sick either, didn't have a headache, just didn't want me to find out, so you lied to me?"
"Yes, yes!" Cleo nodded with a big smile on her little face, completely unaware of the problem.
"Okay." Ava raised her eyebrows slightly and nodded thoughtfully, "So that's how it is."
Cleo quickly covered her little mouth with her hands, then hurriedly covered Ava's ears, "Mommy don't listen, don't listen, I didn't say anything."
Ava was speechless at how adorable Cleo could be.
Ava was amused by the two little ones' voices. She pulled both kids into her arms and pretended to look sad, "But I was so worried about Cleo just now, so worried that my heart hurt."
"Mommy don't let your heart hurt." Cleo quickly rubbed Ava's chest, "It's my fault. I shouldn't have lied to Mommy about being sick. Cleo promises never to do it again."
"What about Finn? I feel bad about Finn staying up late too."
"I won't do it again either. Next time I'll definitely go to bed on time. I promise, Mommy." Finn said quickly.
Ava smiled gently and kissed both babies on the forehead.
"Okay then, let's go to sleep now."
"Okay."
Meanwhile, at the Thomas Villa, which had just calmed down, the servants were cleaning up the messy hall.
"What on earth happened? To be turned upside down by a mechanical dog - this is really annoying." Ursa sat on the sofa, frowning deeply, her well-made-up face full of displeasure. "Find out immediately who dared to play pranks at the Thomas Villa."
Joshua's five fingers holding the mechanical dog tightened slightly, his eyes becoming even deeper like a dark pool.
"I'll handle it."
With that, Joshua got up and went upstairs.
"Hayden, I'll go with you." Hayden stood up, glanced around casually, and followed Joshua upstairs.
"Joshua." Mia, who was sitting nearby, got up anxiously and called out to Joshua.
Joshua turned back to look at her, his eyebrows raising slightly. "Something else?"
Mia pressed her lips together, emotions churning in her eyes, her right hand gripping her left wrist tightly. She had thought that at least seeing her like this, Joshua would worry about her and comfort her, but no - Joshua's expression was so indifferent, as if she didn't exist in his eyes at all.
Mia opened her mouth but ultimately said nothing. She couldn't help but lower her head, her hands clenched tightly, tears of grievance filling her eyes.
Ursa saw through Mia's thoughts. After all, this was her chosen daughter-in-law. Ursa got up, walked to Mia's side, and pulled Mia to sit down on the sofa.
"Mrs. Thomas?" Mia's eyes were full of tears. She lowered her head and bit her lip, looking pitiful, wronged, and restrained - a sight that made people feel sorry for her.
"Mia, don't worry, take it slow. Give Joshua some time." Ursa said earnestly.
Mia's tears kept falling. She pressed her lips together and said, "Mrs. Thomas, I know. I'm willing to wait for Joshua. I've waited five years already. Even if you ask me to wait another five years, ten years, I'm willing. I'm not afraid of anything, except that Joshua's heart might belong to someone else..." Mia trailed off.
"His heart belongs to someone else?" Ursa frowned, thinking Mia was overthinking.
All these years, she really hadn't seen Joshua fall for anyone. Even five years ago when he was going to marry Mia, she knew it was because of a promise he had made before, so he agreed.
"Mrs. Thomas, I think Joshua still can't let go of Ava." Mia didn't want to admit it, but based on what she'd observed these past few days, this was the truth.
So she told Ursa. She knew how much Ursa hated Ava, so Ursa would definitely strongly oppose Ava.
"What?" Ursa's grip on Mia's hand tightened. "Impossible. Joshua can't possibly still have feelings for Ava."
"Mrs. Thomas, although I'm not completely sure either, the way Joshua defended Ava today, to say I don't care..." Mia deliberately trailed off with a sigh, leaving the unfinished words for Ursa to think about carefully.
