Chapter 216 Wedding Gowns Do Not Flatter a Baby Bump

Lika fell silent.

"Ava." Ursa followed the voice and came over. Seeing Lika was also there, her eyes darkened. "Oh, Lika's here too."

"Mrs. Thomas." Lika immediately put on a smiling face.

Ursa nodded slightly to be polite. "Lika, you don't look well. What were you two just talking about?"

Lika opened her mouth, her tone relaxing a bit. "Nothing much, just clearing up some misunderstandings with Ms. Davis."

"Misunderstandings?"

Ursa looked at Ava's calm face, then at Lika's stiff expression.

"Yes, Thea is young and didn't know better. At the King family's party the other day, she saw Mr. King chatting happily with Ms. Davis and misunderstood their relationship. Because of this, Mr. Huo even called off his engagement with Thea. Thea has already been punished - my father has her confined at home.

So I wanted to ask Ms. Davis to forgive Thea. After all, she didn't mean it."

Ava raised her eyebrows slightly.

What Lika was implying was that Thea discovered something might be going on between her and Timothy, which led to Thea misunderstanding their relationship and caused Timothy to break off the engagement with Thea.

As for whether this was a real misunderstanding or fake, she was leaving it to Ursa to figure out herself.

She was trying to make Ursa suspicious!

Lika definitely had some brains - her ability to twist facts was impressive. Her words were carefully linked together, as if afraid that missing one sentence wouldn't be enough to destroy her.

Ursa frowned slightly, shifting her gaze to Ava. After thinking for a few seconds, she asked, "Ava, are you close with Timothy?"

"We know each other."

"Just know each other? Then why would Thea misunderstand you two?"

Just as Ava was about to speak, Lika suddenly raised her voice and jumped in first. "Mrs. Thomas, I'm afraid it's because of something that happened a while ago. I heard Ms. Davis and Mr. King went out to eat alone. Thea saw them, so she misunderstood."

'Dining alone. What a loaded choice of words.'

Worry crept across Ursa's face. Ava was extraordinarily beautiful, and naturally drew men's attention.

Even if she didn't go after men, that didn't mean men wouldn't come after her!

Seeing Ursa's displeased expression, clearly taking her words to heart, Lika smirked triumphantly.

Even if she couldn't destroy this little bitch Ava now, she definitely wouldn't let her have it easy.

So what if she remarried Joshua? If the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship was ruined, their marriage would still fall apart.

Ursa's expression was heavy. "Ava, is this true?"

She couldn't deny having dinner with Timothy. "Yes, but..."

"Enough!" Ursa raised her hand to cut off Ava's words. "Don't explain. I don't want to hear it."

Hearing Ursa's tone, Lika couldn't be happier.

Looks like she really did misunderstand.

"Lika, thank you for telling me." Ursa turned back to smile at Lika.

Lika smiled. "You're welcome." As long as she gets kicked out of the Thomas Villa soon.

Lika glanced at Ava, her eyes full of smug satisfaction.

"Ava, you and Joshua need to have your wedding soon. Not only have it, but make it big."

Both Lika and Ava were caught off guard.

Lika's smile froze on her face, looking utterly grim.

Ursa took Ava's hand and said, "We need to let every man in the city know you're the daughter-in-law of the Thomas family, Joshua's wife. I'd like to see who dares to covet you then."

Ursa linked arms with Ava and said to Lika, "Thank you, Lika. If you hadn't said anything, I wouldn't have thought of this."

Lika's mouth twitched twice. No matter what, she couldn't squeeze out a smile on her stiff face.

"Lika, you should head back. Ava and I are leaving." Ursa walked away with Ava, saying as they went, "Ava dear, later Mom will go with you to look at wedding dresses. This needs to be done soon."

Ava lowered her eyes and smiled. "What's this about?"

After walking away, Ursa snorted twice. "I've lived most of my life - you think I can't see through these women's little tricks? She was just trying to drive a wedge between us. She really underestimated me. Does she think I'm brainless? Playing games in front of me - she's still too green.

Besides, if you were really that kind of flighty woman, you would have been with another man during those years away from Joshua. Where would Joshua have a chance?"

Did she really think she was stupid enough to believe such divisive talk?

A beautiful smile curved Ava's lips, her eyes softening. "Thank you, Mom."

She had just stood up for her. One could imagine how awful Lika's face looked right now.

"No need to thank me. Since you're my daughter-in-law, naturally I'll protect you." Ursa had a protective look. "But do you really plan to wait until Dad recovers from surgery before having the wedding with Joshua?"

"Yes, Grandpa comes first."

"You silly girl. What girl doesn't look forward to her wedding? Waiting for Dad to recover - your wedding will keep getting delayed. You'll be waiting quite a while."

"It's okay. Early or late doesn't really matter."

"No, there's still one thing I'm worried about." Ursa looked thoughtful.

Ava looked at Ursa curiously. "What?"

"Dad's surgery and recovery will take half a year, right? By then, what if your belly gets big and affects how you look in a wedding dress?" Ursa looked serious. "This is something we need to consider."

Ava's face flushed.

"Maybe you should ask Joshua to be more mindful. A woman only gets to wear a wedding dress once, after all..."

"Mom, please..." Ava awkwardly interrupted Ursa.

"Don't be shy. I'm being serious."

Ava bit her lip and changed the subject. "Mom, I understand. I get what you're saying. Victor doesn't have anyone with him, so why don't you go back first? I still have some things to finish, then I'll come over."

Hearing this, Ursa remembered she had important matters. Before leaving, she specifically told Ava to call Joshua and have him come too.

He was the eldest grandson. With Victor hospitalized, if he kept staying away, people would talk.

She hurriedly gave Ava a few more instructions before leaving.

Back in her office, Ava sat at the computer. She had already figured out Victor's surgical plan.

As for the paper Joseph mentioned, Ava crossed her arms and leaned back in her chair, thinking for a while. Her eyes lit up, and her fingers immediately danced across the keyboard, a long essay flowing out.

After some time, Ava's phone rang.

Ava picked up her phone and saw the caller ID. Her bright eyes filled with warmth.

She swiped her finger lightly, and Joshua's stunningly handsome face appeared on the phone screen.

"Are you busy?"

"A little." Ava smiled and nodded. "Everything for Grandpa's hospital admission has been taken care of. You don't need to worry."

"You always put my mind at ease."

"Have you had lunch?"

"Not yet. Just finished working."

Ava pouted. "I know you're busy, but you still need to eat."

Joshua smiled. "I'll listen to you."
