Chapter 209: I’m Just Taking Back My Own Wife
Ava's cheeks flushed red as she turned her face away. She couldn't believe these two kids had actually heard that.
Joshua's lips curved slightly. "Congratulate me."
"What do you mean?" Finn and Cleo didn't understand.
"Didn't you hear what my wife called me? Shouldn't you congratulate me?" As Joshua spoke, Ava gave him a gentle push, amused that he looked utterly elated.
"What? Isn't it true?" Joshua lowered his head and planted a light kiss on Ava's lips, his voice filled with pleased laughter.
"We're still kids." Finn and Cleo laughed as they covered their little eyes.
Ava quickly pushed him away. "Joshua, that's enough."
Ava thought, 'He's being so bold. What if he sets a bad example for the children?'
"I'm just claiming my right as your husband."
"Baby, call me that again."
"No!"
"Then I'll kiss you."
"You can sleep on the floor tonight."
"I don't care, you can't stop me."
"Try me."
...
That evening, Joshua was about to hold Ava and sleep when he was forced out out of the room.
The two kids stood before him with hands on their hips, refusing to budge. Finn said, "Mommy said during the day she'd sleep with us tonight. Go find somewhere else to stay."
Cleo nodded vigorously: That's right, that's right, tonight Mommy is ours.
Ava, who had just finished showering and was still drying her hair, had an amused look on her face.
"My wife!"
"We don't care. Mommy promised anyway, right Mommy?"
Two pairs of extremely hopeful little eyes blinked at her. Ava couldn't bear to refuse, so she laughed. "That's right."
Joshua fell silent.
His handsome face darkened to match the sky outside.
The door closed in his face. Joshua angrily twisted the doorknob a couple of times.
It was locked.
Joshua took two deep breaths, so angry his head hurt.
'I've only just got to be with Ava, and these two have taken her away from me before I even had my fill.'
Finn and Cleo happily jumped onto the bed, hugging Ava from both sides. "Mommy, let's go to sleep."
"You locked the door?"
"Yes, otherwise what if Daddy comes in and fights us for you?"
Ava could already imagine how dark Joshua's face must be.
She pulled up the blanket and tucked in both kids. "Then let's sleep."
'Let him stay alone for one night.'
"Mommy, can you tell us a story?"
"Of course. What would you like to hear? Mommy will tell you."
With Ava's gentle voice, Finn and Cleo fell asleep in half an hour. Ava checked the two little ones' blankets, closed her eyes, and quickly fell asleep too.
Meanwhile, the man whose wife had been stolen couldn't sleep, alone in the dark study filled with cigarette smoke.
He glanced at his watch. It was midnight.
He'd already given those two a full two hours with his woman.
In the darkness, the man stubbed out his cigarette and got up to leave.
Taking his key, he quietly opened the bedroom door.
Ava was holding Finn and Cleo, all three sleeping soundly.
How annoying.
Joshua bent down, gently lifted Cleo's little hand that was holding Ava, then carefully picked up Finn's small body and moved him aside.
Then he directly carried Ava away.
After stealing Ava back, Joshua carried her straight to his own room.
He placed her down with extremely light and slow movements, but the slight motion still woke Ava.
A familiar scent hit her face. Ava's eyes flew open, staring in confusion at the handsome profile of the man before her.
"Joshua? What are you doing?"
"Sorry for waking you."
Ava felt around the bed but couldn't find the two little ones. "Why did you carry me over here?"
"You were mine to begin with." Joshua's low voice was full of dominance.
"Why are you so petty? Finn and Cleo will cry when they wake up and can't find me. Let me go back."
"No way. I just gave them two hours. You stayed with them for two hours—that's enough. They should learn to sleep by themselves."
"Then why can't you learn to sleep by yourself?"
"Because I'm a man with a wife."
Extremely proud and matter-of-fact.
"What am I supposed to tell them tomorrow?"
"We'll deal with tomorrow's problems tomorrow."
Ava was truly at her wit's end.
Joshua lowered his head, his kiss landing precisely on Ava's lips. "Go to sleep. If you don't sleep, we'll do something else. Pick one. I hope you pick the second option."
"I pick the first." Ava pulled the blanket over herself completely, giving him no chance at all.
Joshua chuckled softly, lay down beside her, and pulled Ava into his arms.
The next day.
Joshua sat at the dining table in his suit, holding a newspaper, leisurely sipping his coffee.
Two resentful gazes were shooting straight at him.
Joshua remained calm and composed, as if he hadn't noticed.
Ava looked at this scene helplessly, gently rubbing her forehead. She put a sandwich on each child's plate, but even the sandwiches weren't enough to draw the two little ones' attention away from Joshua.
"Finn, Cleo, what's wrong? Did flowers grow on your father?" Ursa also noticed something was off.
These two little ones looked like Joshua had stolen some precious treasure from them—angry and resentful.
Really furious.
First thing in the morning, Ava was nowhere to be found. When they looked for her, she was in Joshua's room, in Joshua's arms!
Even locking the door couldn't stop this bad guy!
"He stole Mommy. Bad guy!" Finn said angrily.
Cleo scribbled on paper with a pencil, the sound of the pencil scratching across the paper incredibly clear, showing just how angry Cleo was.
Cleo wrote: Daddy stole Mommy. Very angry.
"Joshua, what's going on?" Ursa looked at the two angry children, wondering how he could still be sitting there drinking coffee.
"Joshua." Ava called to him softly.
Joshua sat up straight. As he looked at Ava, she gave him a look.
Finn and Cleo's two angry little faces finally got some acknowledgment from Joshua.
"Not happy about it?"
"Why did you steal Mommy? You came and took her even when we were asleep." Finn said very angrily.
"Why can't I take back my own wife?"
