Chapter 208 Not Even Qualified to Like Her

Chapter 208 Not Even Qualified to Like Her

Thea looked panicked and helpless, biting her lip so hard it seemed she wanted to draw blood. Her legs went weak and she collapsed onto the ground.

"Sorry Lika, I just said those things in the heat of the moment. I didn't mean to slander you."

That short sentence was spoken through gritted teeth, barely holding back seething rage.

The Ellis family's future was in Lika's hands - offending Lika was equivalent to signing their own death warrant.

She had acted on impulse earlier, but now that she'd calmed down, she felt like the blood in her veins turned to ice.

Lika's threat had struck right at her deepest fear.

Lika felt slightly relieved.

"Haven't you all caused enough of a commotion?" Briar shouted angrily, as a servant wheeled her wheelchair into the center of the crowd.

Briar's face was dark with anger. She didn't spare Thea a single glance, as if even looking at her would sully her sight.

"Let's call off the engagement. No matter how much the King family can't compare to your Ellis family, I absolutely won't allow this kind of woman into the King family."

Briar's voice was firm, leaving no room for discussion.

Thea shook her head with a pale face, but couldn't get a single word out.

Those cold stares pinned her down like nails. She looked at Lika in panic, her bloodless face showing only helplessness.

She couldn't just abandon her.

Lika ground her teeth, her eyes filled with nothing but anger and helplessness.

She was in this state - what could she do?

Being dumped was her only fate.

Not only that, but everyone present tonight was from high society, including plenty of media reporters. Thea's reputation was completely ruined.

Lika gripped the hem of her dress tightly, her gaze moving to that face she deeply hated.

She really wanted to kill that awful Ava.

Ava narrowed her eyes, looking coldly at Lika with undisguised amusement, cold glints flashing in her eyes.

"Today is the King Group's anniversary banquet, but you two have turned it upside down. You're not welcome here. Please leave." Briar glared at them both, her voice stern.

Lika's face darkened further.

Being thrown out was absolutely humiliating.

She looked around and saw everyone looking at them with disdain.

"Just go already. You've ruined a perfectly good banquet. Don't you have any shame?"

"Go, go, stop making trouble. You're really causing problems for others. What bad luck"

It was clearly all Thea's fault, so why was she being kicked out too?

All because of this useless person.

Lika's anger flared repeatedly. Finally, she clenched her jaw hard, grabbed Thea, and left in embarrassment amid the crowd's jeers.

"They wanted to set you up tonight." Joshua's eyes were dark.

"Yes, but I still won." Ava smiled lightly.

Joshua's expression wasn't good at all.

"What's wrong?"

"I shouldn't have come late."

He shouldn't have let her face all this alone.

Joshua spoke, and Ava paused, then smiled, "You're not late at all. I think it was just right. I can still handle those two."

"I know you're the smartest." Joshua gently patted Ava's head. "But there were still risks."

It was fine that she handled it, but if she'd really fallen into their trap, Joshua didn't dare think about it.

Ava raised her hand and pressed it between Joshua's eyebrows. "I know you're worried. How about next time I tell you what I'm planning to do? Then you can be my solid backup. If I really lose, I'll still have you to protect me, and I won't be afraid of anything."

The woman's gentle voice drifted by, and Joshua's furrowed brow gradually relaxed. Satisfied, he placed a kiss on her forehead. "Okay."

Ava smiled warmly. "It's getting late. Let's go home."

After dealing with all this drama for a whole evening, slapping faces and tearing into people was mentally exhausting. Ava lazily leaned into Joshua's embrace and yawned.

"Let's go."

Ava went to say goodbye to Briar, her gaze briefly sweeping over Timothy standing behind Briar before coldly looking away and turning to leave.

Timothy's eyes were deep. Ava's calm gaze made him feel ashamed, and her coldness pierced deep into his heart.

"Timothy."

"Grandma."

"Go talk things out with Ava. If you keep some words bottled up too long, they'll eat you up inside."

Briar shook her head helplessly. Such a good girl, but she just wasn't meant for their family.

She could only say Joshua was lucky. Hopefully he'd treasure her well.

...

"Ava."

Ava and Joshua had just reached the main entrance with Finn and Cleo.

Ava slowly turned around, her gaze falling on Timothy who had chased after them.

Timothy's eyes were full of painful conflict as he glanced at Joshua.

Ava frowned slightly and looked at Joshua. "Take Finn and Cleo to the car and wait for me."

Joshua gave Timothy a look heavy with warning, then withdrew his gaze and left.

Timothy stood there. When his eyes met the woman's indifferent gaze, a hard-to-describe panic gradually rose in his heart.

"Thank you."

Ava coldly raised her pretty eyebrow, her tone distant. "You're welcome. I saved you only because I didn't want you interfering with my plan."

A trace of bitterness flashed in Timothy's eyes. "Do you have to be so blunt?"

"I like to speak plainly."

If it weren't for worrying that the drug would kick in and ruin her plan, just based on what he tried to do to her in that room, she wouldn't have bothered saving him.

"I'm sorry."

"Got it." Ava's gaze was calm. She didn't want to say more and nodded slightly. "Goodbye."

Under Ava's completely calm gaze, Timothy felt more and more like a petty person.

A petty person who took advantage of someone in danger.

He no longer even had the right to like her.

"Ava."

Ava's steps slowly paused. She only turned her head slightly, not giving him any extra attention.

Timothy's chest felt suffocatingly tight. A sentence lingered between his lips for a long time before he finally said, "Never mind."

Just that one sentence seemed to drain all his strength. Watching that figure walk away, Timothy closed his eyes hard, his slightly hoarse voice saying to himself:

"I wish you happiness."

Joshua had been waiting by the car for a while. When Ava approached, he reached out his hand to her. Seeing the sweet smile on Ava's face, Joshua's expression was full of tenderness.

As the familiar presence drew near, Ava leaned slightly against Joshua's firm chest.

"In a good mood?"

Ava nodded without denying it. "Of course. How could I be in a bad mood in my husband's arms?"

A storm of emotion surged in Joshua's eyes. "What did you call me?"

Ava smiled again, gently stood on her tiptoes, and whispered in Joshua's ear, "Husband."

"Say it again."

"Didn't you hear me?"

"No."

"Husband!"

"Say it again."

Ava reached up and pinched Joshua's ear. "Joshua, are you deaf?"

"I want to hear it more."

Joshua was overjoyed.

"I'm not saying it anymore."

"Baby, say it one more time."

"No!"

"Daddy, Mommy, you two are really too much."

Ava and Joshua's eyes paused.

"You're always showing off your love in front of us. Especially you, Daddy. Mommy called you husband - we all heard it."
