Chapter 151 He Sent Someone to Hit Me
Victor was furious.
Thea sat beside him, gently patting Victor's back. A dark gleam flashed in her eyes, and she turned her gaze, softly comforting him, "Grandpa, don't be angry. Maybe Ava offended someone and that's why she was targeted for revenge. At least Ava, Finn, and Cleo are all okay - that's a blessing in disguise."
"That's easy for you to say. Ava got so badly hurt, and Finn and Cleo were terrified - you call that okay? This is serious. Investigate - we must get to the bottom of this," Victor said angrily.
Thea's eyes turned cold from an angle Victor couldn't see.
Investigate? What if the trail leads back to her?
No way.
Thea saw Finn and Cleo coming downstairs, her eyes flickering. She stood up and gently bent down, "Finn, Cleo, good morning."
"Morning," Finn replied out of politeness.
Cleo just nodded, not even showing a smile.
For some reason, Thea always smiled at them, but it looked fake and made them not like her at all.
"Finn, Cleo, come here," Victor called to them. Finn and Cleo ran toward Victor with small steps.
Victor pulled them onto his lap, one on each side. "Let me see where you're hurt."
Finn and Cleo held up their little hands for Victor to see. Victor rubbed their hands tenderly, "Poor babies, I'll make sure justice is done for you."
Victor was definitely going to investigate. Thea's face grew colder and colder. Those useless people yesterday - she sent so many of them and they couldn't handle one woman.
Thea gritted her teeth hard. "Grandpa, I have something to do, I'll leave first."
"Come visit again when you're free."
Thea quickened her pace and left.
In Joshua's study, Samuel rushed in urgently, "Mr. Thomas, the company system has been hacked."
Joshua's eyes turned cold, filled with icy intent. He stood up quickly, "Back to the company."
Samuel followed behind Joshua while reporting the situation, "The account that hacked us is located in Astoria. We can confirm it's Ryan's side retaliating for the lesson we gave them last time."
"What?" Ava was just coming out, holding onto the wall, and happened to overhear.
"Why aren't you resting in your room? What are you doing out here?" Joshua was afraid Ava might fall. Seeing her approach, he immediately raised his hand to support her.
Ava placed her hand in Joshua's palm, and Joshua steadied her.
"I'm done resting. Moving around helps with recovery too." Ava's eyes moved slightly as she probed, "What happened?"
"Nothing, don't worry. Just rest and heal at home. I need to go to the company." Joshua placed a kiss on Ava's forehead.
A dark light flashed in Ava's starry eyes. She didn't ask more questions and responded softly.
After watching Joshua leave, Ava returned to her room and thought for a moment. She took out her phone and immediately called Ryan.
He answered almost instantly, followed by the man's carefree, lazy laugh, "Baby, miss me?"
"What have you been up to lately?"
He paused, laughing leisurely without a care, "Are you concerned about me?"
"I'm being serious."
He seemed to think for a moment, "I haven't done anything."
"Joshua - what are you doing with him?"
Ava had already heard about Ryan twice from Joshua.
What did killing Zach have to do with Ryan?
What was Ryan up to with the company problems?
He sighed lightly, full of displeasure, "You finally call me and it's to ask about him. Ava, are you trying to kill me?"
Ava took a deep breath, "Ryan!"
"Yeah." Ava admitted directly and openly, "I just hacked into his company for fun. Who told him to mess with me."
"He messed with you?"
Ava's heart tightened, her gaze deepening.
"Yes, he sent people to beat me up!"
Ava was speechless.
Why did his tone carry a hint of grievance?
"Reason."
He couldn't have sent people to Astoria to beat him up for no reason.
"I think he's sick. He sent people over out of nowhere and started attacking me. If I hadn't run fast, you'd only be able to talk to my ghost right now."
"And then I only hacked into his company system. Aren't I merciful? What do you think?"
Ava was speechless. "Eight years ago, the Thomas Villa was attacked by unknown forces and Zach was shot dead. Did you send people to do it?"
A blank silence on the call.
Through the phone, Ava seemed to feel a chilling coldness.
The man's voice, cold and without a trace of warmth, spoke up, "What does this have to do with you? Stop meddling in these things."
"I..."
"Don't ask. I can listen to you about anything, but not this."
"Ryan." Ava shouted.
Ryan said, "Hanging up. I'm annoyed to death lately."
"One last thing - don't ask me anything about Zach again."
Ava frowned, knowing she wouldn't get anything more, and hung up.
Ava let out a heavy breath, leaning back wearily against the backrest, her gaze falling on the window outside, brows furrowed in thought.
By noon, the restless Ava still went to the hospital. Her hands couldn't perform surgery now, but seeing patients was no problem.
After an incredibly full afternoon, Ava received a call from Timothy.
"Mr. King, what's up?"
"Off work?"
Ava was carefully organizing things, her phone tucked between her shoulder and ear as she responded softly.
"I've made a reservation to take you to dinner."
Ava paused, sighing lightly, "Mr. King, if you want to thank me for saving your grandmother, I'll say it again - it was my duty."
"No, I want to ask you out."
He seemed very persistent about taking her to dinner. This was already the third time he'd asked her, and Ava was starting to feel bad about refusing.
"Mr. King, is there something you need to say? If so, you can actually just tell me over the phone."
"Are you busy?"
"Yes, I'm very busy. I have things to do later, no time for dinner." Ava's refusal was straightforward.
"Alright then, give me your home address. I'll have the restaurant set up downstairs at your place. That way having dinner with you will save you time."
Ava took a deep breath, "Mr. King, what exactly do you want? You really don't need to thank me for saving your grandmother. Any doctor would do their best to save a patient, so you don't need to thank me at all."
"This has nothing to do with my grandmother. Your address - I'll have the restaurant set up downstairs."
Ava was at a loss.
"Location."
"Do you need me to pick you up?"
"No need, I have a car."
"Okay, I'll wait for you."
Ava hung up, rubbing her forehead. This person must have some kind of obsession with asking people to dinner - not stopping until they agree.
Ava packed up her things and left the office. Because of her leg injury, her movements were a bit slow.
Ava walked into the restaurant and looked around, her gaze landing on a window seat.
Timothy sat there in a suit, his handsome and extraordinary features combined with his noble bearing frequently drawing the eyes of female customers.
Ava pressed her lips together and walked over openly, sitting down across from him.
Timothy's long, deep eyes fell on Ava.
Ava placed her bag on the seat beside her and asked flatly, "Mr. King, what did you want to see me about? Just say it."
At that moment, Timothy's gaze fell on her bandaged hand.
His dark eyes flashed as he reached out and grasped her hand, "You're hurt?"
At that moment, two women were sitting at a table a few rows ahead, having dinner.
Thea was eating with her head down, distracted and listless. The friend in front of her tugged at her clothes, "Thea, look, isn't that your fiancé?"
Thea instinctively looked in the direction she was pointing. Her eyes narrowed as she saw Timothy holding Ava's hand.
Thea froze for a second.
How could Timothy and Ava be together? And they looked so close.
She quickly reacted, taking out her phone and zooming in to take a photo.
The photo clearly showed Ava's face. Thea smiled with satisfaction.
