Chapter 102 Didn't Care
Victor smiled with relief when he saw Ava like this.
After Mia recovered, she was furious. She jumped up and rushed at Ava, reaching out to scratch her face.
"Ava..."
Ava dodged to the side quickly. Mia was immediately restrained by the bodyguards, her venomous eyes glaring at Ava with rage.
Mia was dragged out, and her piercing screams could still be heard from far away.
Ava's expression was calm, the anger from before had returned to her usual gentle indifference.
Victor sighed, "Alright, all the annoying stuff is dealt with. Ava, stay for dinner with me tonight."
Ava smiled apologetically, "Sorry Grandpa, I have something to do today, I'm afraid I can't."
Finn and Cleo were still at home, she couldn't go back too late.
Seeing Victor's unhappy look, Ava added, "In a few days, when I have time, I'll definitely come have dinner with you."
Since Ava put it that way, Victor couldn't insist further, "You're not lying?"
Ava nodded and smiled, "I'm not lying."
Victor's gaze turned to Joshua, his originally loving voice becoming stern, "You see Ava out."
His sharp eyes glared at Joshua, as if Victor would lose his temper if he dared refuse.
The coldness on Joshua's handsome face softened a bit, and he nodded, "Okay."
Ava said goodbye to Victor and left the room with Joshua.
The two walked on the wide gravel path. Joshua spoke flatly, "Sorry for wrongly accusing you before."
Ava nodded, "You should apologize to me."
She deserved this apology.
"So you forgive me?"
Ava looked up at him, "What if I forgive you? What if I don't?" After a pause, Ava added, "I'm not petty."
Joshua's lips curved slightly, "When did you study medicine?"
"I've always studied medicine, even before I married you." Ava paused, a trace of bitterness flashing in her eyes. He didn't even know this, which showed how invisible she was to him back then.
She smiled slightly, quickly letting it go.
"You never mentioned it."
A shadow passed through Ava's eyes, "You just didn't pay attention."
"It won't happen again."
"What?"
"I admit I neglected you before. From now on, I won't." Joshua's gaze fixed on Ava, not letting go for a moment.
Ava suddenly noticed a hint of affection hidden in those deep eyes.
Her eyes trembled, and she suddenly remembered his mention of remarriage a few days ago.
They say men become devoted to their wives after having children, so did he want to remarry her because of Finn and Cleo?
Thinking this, Ava unconsciously asked, "Because of Finn and Cleo?"
Joshua was silent for two seconds, then nodded, "Yes, but not entirely. Also because of you. I told you I want the woman by my side to be you, and only you."
Ava looked down and smiled slightly, "So you're saying Mr. Thomas likes me?"
Joshua pressed his lips together, his eyes narrowing imperceptibly.
Like? He had never really thought about it, he was just following his heart.
When he was with her, he felt happy. When they weren't together, her image would appear in his mind. Seeing her with other men made him angry. Seeing her hurt made him extremely worried, afraid of losing her.
These were emotions he had never experienced with any other woman.
Seeing Joshua remain silent, Ava's eyes flickered twice. She looked down and laughed softly, "Never mind, you don't have to answer. Pretend I didn't ask. You can stop here, I can go back by myself."
"You want to make Grandpa worry?" Joshua frowned slightly.
"What?" What did her going back by herself have to do with Victor worrying?
"Grandpa worries about you, a girl going back alone at night being dangerous. He asked me to take you home. If you go back by yourself, wouldn't that make him worry?"
Ava tugged at her lips.
Joshua had already walked to the car and opened the door, standing by it and raising an eyebrow at her.
Ava was somewhat helpless and finally had to bend down and get in.
Joshua stood right beside her. The two were unintentionally very close, making Ava's heart flutter and her expression somewhat uncomfortable.
Joshua got in the driver's seat.
The car drove smoothly. Ava looked out the window and noticed it had started pouring rain outside. But Joshua drove very steadily, which put Ava at ease.
Soon the car stopped steadily at the apartment entrance. Joshua took out an umbrella, got out, and walked to the passenger door to open it.
A gust of cold air rushed in. Ava shrank her shoulders slightly. Joshua held the umbrella over her head, not letting a single drop of rain touch her.
Ava had been in a hurry to see Victor today and forgot to wear her coat when she left. Now she only had a thin shirt covering her slender body. Seeing this, Joshua naturally raised his hand around her shoulder and pulled her closer to him.
In the silent night, with rain everywhere, two people under one umbrella.
Ava, with her serene face, looked up slightly at the extraordinarily handsome Joshua in front of her.
At such close distance, with him holding her, she felt the warmth of his embrace.
The rain had gotten heavier and heavier on the drive back, showing no signs of stopping.
Ava looked at the rain outside, while Joshua looked at Ava.
Ava's eyes trembled as she withdrew her gaze, "...Why don't you come up and sit for a bit? The rain is so heavy, wait until it gets lighter before leaving?"
Out of politeness, Ava asked tentatively.
Joshua, "Okay."
He agreed very readily.
Ava was stunned. Why did she just get the feeling that he had been staring at her waiting for her to say exactly that?
