Chapter Thirteen
Fear attacked my body all night as the possibility of Damon doing something terrible was at risk. Christian called me to say that he knew where Damon was but said that Damon wasn't in the mood for talking and just wanted to be alone.
No matter how good of a father figure he was, Damon could only calm down with the voice of his mother. Natalie had gone to speak to her boy and told me that he is just coping in his own way. I never meant to say that he scared me, I wasn't scared at all. Not scared of Damon anyway.
I was the one that dealt with his anger issues before, he would always come to mine when he needed to calm down but this time, I couldn't be the one to calm him because I was the result of his anger.
It was already the morning when I woke up from my brief sleep, it was more like a nap though. My hand instantly flew to my phone to check for any messages or missed calls and I had a few mostly just updates on the whole thing.
Natalie had sent me a picture of Damon; he was laying on her sofa sleeping soundly with light bruised on his face. My body seemed to have acted on its own as it walked over to the front door slipping on my trainers and grabbing my keys.
I needed to sort this out with Damon now otherwise I could lose him again and no matter how much it hurt me to see him touching his ex like that I knew there was something more.
The drive to the house was painful for me. Everything was delaying the time in which I would arrive, and it was getting irritating.
The sun had barely risen as it was only 5 in the morning, but I was so desperate to see him.
Walking through the house I saw Natalie sleeping on the sofa she had her phone in her hand whilst Damon slept on the opposite sofa with a blanket over him. I walked over to her and lightly woke her up.
"I'll handle this, get some sleep okay,” I said helping her up and leading her towards the stairs. She barely said a word to me as she was half asleep, but I knew she was grateful that I was here.
Once she had entered her room I turned back and walked over to Damon. He still had his shoes on, so I started to take them off trying not to wake him. I pushed his legs further on the sofa so that he was in a comfortable position.
He moves slightly but he just turned over, slight moans coming from his mouth as he adjusted to the sofa.
Knowing that he probably wouldn't have eaten yesterday I made my way to the kitchen to prepare Damon's favorite meal, I would cook this for him all the time when he would have a bad day. I remember there was one time when he got home bruised up. I didn't ask him what happened I knew he would have been fighting with some idiot, but I just cooked for him to calm him down.
I decided on making him his favorite a Thai curry soup. The first time he tried it he was hesitant but for years he always asked me to cook this as it was now his favorite meal. That and my famous grilled cheese sandwiches.
As I was making the meal my mind referred back to what he had said. I don't know if he was serious about that house in France being mine, but I wanted to know. It was true that I told him I wanted to live in France, after visiting there on a school trip I wanted to have my family there.
I didn't think he would take what I said so easily.
I walked back into the living room once it was 6.30 since I knew Damon would be getting up sometime soon and I wanted to be there for him when he wakes up.
I sat close to him as he opened his eyes and shifted his body my way. When he finally got his eyes open, I hated how he closed them tight again, like he didn't want to see me.
I reached out to him wanting him to speak to me.
“Get out," he said his voice very harsh and firm. The words stabbed me in the heart but that was going to make me leave, he would literally have to kill me and throw my body outside if I was going to leave.
When I didn't move, he sat up twisting his back. I cringed at the bones that were cracking with his movements.
"I've said all I want to say now get out Skylar,” I flinched back as he practically spat in my face. I was shocked at the tone he just used on me like I was some dirt on his shoe.
I saw that look in his eyes again. He began to stand up, but I had other ideas as I pulled back down and grasped his chin. “Well, you haven't listened to me have you, now calm the fuck down and stop using that tone with me,” I warned him. I needed him to know that he wasn't scaring me, frankly he was just pissing me off big time.
“Why not, you're scared of me aren't you. It's about time I showed the monster I am." He laughed darkly shaking his chin out of my grasp.
I actually thought he was insane with that sadistic grin he wore on his handsome face.
“If you were willing to listen to me you would have understood that I wasn't scared of you, I was scared for you. You prick,” I snapped at him my hands clenching at my sides. I so wanted to slap that pretty face of his.
I noticed his eyes move slightly; good he was thinking now.
He leant back in the sofa.
"No, I saw the way you flinched you were scared of me it was clear as day,” I shook my head frantically.
"I've seen you angry like that before Damon, for god’s sake how many times have I had to deal with your fucking raging temper. I was scared that you were going to hurt yourself and you are not a monster not in the slightest,” I calmed my voice down not wanting to have a fight with him.
Especially with his mother sleeping upstairs.
Damon seemed to have settled down now I could tell by the way his body seemed softer not as tense like it was before.
"I would never hurt you baby you know that right," he said suddenly leaning up on his arms to get closer to me. I did nothing but nod quickly. I let him reach out and stroke my arm comfortably.
"I know that, c'mon I made you your favorite, we will talk later okay,” I said to him already on the move to pull him up so that we could eat at the breakfast bar like civilized people.
His eyes widened before he started to sniff the air like a dog he is.
I laughed when the power walked past me and headed straight for the meal, I slaved over only an hour ago.
I watched him intently as he ate and drank the soup, I had made with a little bit more spice than I usually add in. when he reached for the cold glass of water on the table, I knew he still couldn't handle his spice.
“Little strong on the spice baby," he said gulping down the refreshing water. I wanted to react, but I really did miss Damon. I especially missed him calling me baby. It felt horrible that he was using my full name because he really was pissed at me.
The sound of his parents coming down the stairs kicked me out of my trance.
"Curry soup my favorite,” Natalie says padding her way over to me and tasting the soup that was left. Damon seemed to frown at her but when I placed my hand on his arm he calmed down and sent me a warm smile.
I silently dragged Damon away whilst the two continued to eat the soup.
Once we were in his room, we sat next to each other is silence.
"I'm sorry that I scared you like that Damon, seeing you like that with her really hurt me and brought back a lot of sad depressing thoughts I had whilst growing up. We've missed a lot of each other’s lives and if we’re going to make up for that together I don't want to be thinking that I'm not enough." I squeezed his hand when he tried to talk.
"I need you to be honest with me Damon you can't be keeping secrets from me." I lowered my head to which he quickly came closer and picked my head up in his hands and caressed me gently.
"I know baby. I thought I was keeping you safe by keeping my feelings to myself, but I know now that I shouldn't." I was happy with his words, I hoped he would keep this promise because I don't think I can handle anymore secrets.
