Chapter Twelve

Damon had every right to be angry at me. I know that. I did leave the car with my suitcase whilst he was getting fuel. But in my defense, he did spend 20 minutes speaking to his ex and another guy. Let me remind you he was holding her with her legs wrapped around him. No doubt they would get back together because they only broke up because he left for the army.

I rushed inside quickly slamming the door, hopefully in his face.

“Open this door right now,” I heard him shout as he banged his fist against my door no doubt, he'd break through it if he could. With my best effort, I put on a straight face as I padded my way to the door and unlocked it. He stepped through the doorway his eyes on me as he kicked the door shut with his foot.

He was pissed. Actually pissed was an understatement.

“Why the fuck would you scare me like that," he moves forward his hands already reaching out to me. I shook my head frantically and stepped back I wasn't going to let him touch me when his hands have just been cradling some other girl's ass.

His eyes widened at my actions and I don't blame him he probably didn't think I saw him.

"Damon I wasn't going to wait around whilst you spoke to old friends. I have bags to unpack and work to get on with." Not what I planned to say in my head, but it was pretty close.

I felt his stare on me it was so intense I had to look away I dint trust my body when he looked at me like that.

“So that's how this going to go then. You're just going to leave,” I hated hearing the pain in his voice, but he caused this it was never me. I had to learn how to live my life without him after depending on him for so many years. That is definitely not the plan I don't know what to do. His return has messed up with my head.

I stepped back and sunk into the chair behind me. “Where was this ever going to go Damon? We live separate lives. Now I'm in London with such a demanding job and you're living in France. No matter how much I want to be with you, I know that I will never be that girl for you,” my voice was breaking I was glad I was sitting down because if I was standing up, I probably would have crumbled to the floor.

“What's that supposed to mean? Have I not showed you enough over the last few weeks how much I want you?” He had advanced towards me, then stood over me with a penetrating gaze.

“This is what happens Damon, has been the same ever since we became friends. You call me sweet names, kiss me now and again but it’s never anything more. I'm your baby girl get it,” I had to quickly wipe away the tears, it was getting too much for me now.

Damon noticed this and lowered himself down, so he was in front of me but just not as intimidating.

“What's brought this on? We were fine this morning," he asks me, confused in the change in my attitude.

I almost laugh but then again that wouldn't help the situation at all.

"I'm just realizing how stupid I've been. I saw you Damon. I saw how she clung to you. How well she fit your body. I always knew you wouldn't want that with me. I'm more like your baby sister and I get that.” I never knew that was the case. I felt special that Damon paid attention to me. I didn't know however that he would go home and fuck his girlfriend after kissing me goodnight though.

"Would I kiss my baby sister like I have been kissing you, baby? Think about it." But that's the thing, I have been thinking about it.

I lean my head back. “Probably not, but you can't expect me to be fine when not only 20 minutes ago you were embracing your ex in such an intimate way Damon. Can you for one second consider how I feel?” I shouted. My voice was no longer the calm collected voice I usually have. I was royally pissed off with Damon and he needed to know that.

I can sense his irritation, but he also has this unknown look.

"You think I don't care. That's it isn't it?" He even mocks me by fucking laughing. I watch his stand up to his full height.

“Ever since I've arrived all you've done is lecture me because I'm a selfish, heartless prick that left you all those years ago. You think I haven't considered your feelings one bit. Ever since I left, I haven't stopped thinking about the girl I left at home. Would I have bought a fucking house in France for you?" I stared at him confused. What is he saying?

“What?" I said getting up from the chair and facing him.

He what? “What the fuck are you talking about Damon!" I screamed at him, he wasn't making any sense at all right now and that was infuriating right now.

“Your 16th birthday you told me you wanted to live in France, have a house there. Since that day I haven't stopped planning to make that happen for you because I fucking loved you and now you say I don't consider your feelings,” I gasped when he grabbed a frame off the wall and slammed it on the floor.

It was a picture of me and him, I had the same picture in my purse, my phone my desk table at the office.

He was shaking with pure anger and I dint know what to do.

"Damon please stop you're scaring me," I said my voice shaking with fear I don’t think I've ever been so scared of Damon.

His eyes snapped to mine and I wasn't prepared for the look he gave me. I had hurt him with that statement.

“Ever since we become friends sky you were the only girl I really cared for. I had girlfriends because I knew that you didn't deserve the pain, I would give you if I pursued you. I loved you with every bone in my damn body and leaving you was the only option. I had to make you proud of me somehow,” I hadn't realized that I walked towards him, but I stood in front of him reaching up to wipe the tears falling from his eyes.

I was only thinking one thing in everything that he's been saying to me.

He said he loved me. Me, little Skylar.

“But now you're scared of me. So that's why I need to leave you alone. You deserve a prince not a fucking monster like me,” It hurt to hear him say those words. I never thought of hm as a monster.

Damon slipped through my fingers and started walking to my door. His arms at his sides, fists clenched.

The slam of the door stung like a bitch. He did not once look back at me nor did he give me the chance to explain.

I wanted to stop him and tell him that it wasn't him scaring me, I was scared of the possibility of him hurting himself. The only other time I've seen him this angry was when Natalie had an accident shortly after his father's death.

Not many people know this, but Damon has major anger issues, he's not himself when he's angry.

Instead of being the one he turns to, to calm down I'm the one that made him angry.

After hearing him drive off I ran over to my landline and picked up the phone dialing the number I knew could calm Damon down.

Christian picked up on the second ring. He was laughing lightly. “Hello, “He said into the phone. I had to stop the sobs.

"Christian," I said into the phone. I felt him stop laughing immediately and he whispered shh, I'm guessing he couldn't hear me well.

“Sweetie is you okay," he says into the phone. I could hear the concern in his voice.

“It's Damon Christian, I made him angry really angry," I said before sinking my head into a cushion to contain my cries. I heard him move around, I was slightly relieved when I heard him pick up keys.

"What did you say Skylar,” I knew he was going to ask this. I've been through it that many times.

I thought back to what was actually said.

"I said he was scaring me,” Christian was silent on the other line probably trying not to get mad at me for saying that. But at the time I wasn't thinking I was in the moment and that only caused him more pain.

“Don't worry about its sky, I'll find him and calm him down," Christian tells me. Even though he seemed calm I'm pretty sure he was anxious for Damon and probably pissed at me for causing such stress to him and no doubt Natalie.

"I'm sorry, please tell him I'm sorry, "I said before letting my tears take over. I hung up abruptly before he could try and comfort me. I didn't deserve it.

I honestly believe I just broke Damon's heart.
