Chapter 31 32
Chapter 18
DIMITRI VALEQUEZ
It took a second before the earth stopped vibrating. That only meant one thing. Nikola's army had found their way in.
“Dimitri, something's happening. Dark witches are here,” I heard Caden through the mind-link.
“Don't engage,” I mindlinked every one of my men through the mindlink.
Agatha, Adriana, and I exchanged glances before we rushed out, and from afar, we could already see Gwen and Talia using their magic on some vampires.
“Step back,” Agatha created a magical invisible wall between the army approaching and us.
“We can't leave through that way, there's an exit inside the house,” I led them back into Cora’s room.
“We covered our tracks and still they followed us here,” Caden voiced in frustration, shutting the door behind as everyone stepped inside.
“Is that the exit?” Sabrina asked while Agatha used her magic to illuminate the exit into the dark tunnel Cora had shown us.
I nodded and Maya asked. “Where are the witches?”
“They're gone,” Adriana said. “And Nikola won't find them,”
We kept walking through the tunnels until we burst out into an open cliff and luckily, I couldn't hear any vampire close by.
“We should have stayed and fought, at least got to kill a few of those leeches,” Caden was clearly still pissed from the last attack Nikola made on our pack, but we couldn't work with our rage.
Cora was right. With the blood moon rising only a few days away, the wolves under the curse had begun to feel its effect, and it was worse for me. Being near Adriana made it better but I could already feel the pain in my heart. Ryker was in constant pain, and he was getting weaker and angrier. That was another effect of the blood moon, the blood rage, and right now, Caden was no doubt suffering from it.
“There's no point in losing anyone else again. We're outnumbered. We'll get our chance Caden, but what's important is we've gotten what we came here for,” I told them.
“You mean the witches gave you the only weapon that can end Nikola?” Sabrina asked.
“Yes, we do, and now we can finally break the curse on the night of the blood moon; nothing will stop us from winning this war,” My mate smiled, watching Sabrina's reaction.
“We can't get out of here on foot,” Agatha scanned everyone. “Adriana, Talia, Gwen, and I will combine our magic to create a portal to the pack,”
This was the plan and the perfect opportunity to find out who was working for Nikola. This would give Agatha and Adriana the chance to search through everyone's memories as quickly as they could.
Agatha held Talia and Caden's hands at both sides, while I held Caden's and Maya's. Adriana held Maya's and Gwen while Sabrina held Gwen’s and Talia’s. We had formed a circle and the witches had already begun chanting, but it was taking longer than usual.
I kept glancing between Agatha and Adriana, waiting for any kind of reaction from them, when all of a sudden, Adriana's eyes snapped open in shock, and using her magic, she tossed Sabrina out of the circle and against a boulder.
“She's the traitor working for Nikola, and she's a fucking witch,” Adriana's words shocked every one of us, and instantly I shifted into Ryker, ignoring the burning sensation in my chest.
From the corner of my eyes, I saw Caden and Maya also in their wolf forms while I went after Sabrina.
“You crazy bitch!” Sabrina snarled, her eyes glowing purple as she muttered some words that sent a crack in the ground, causing a wide rift between the others and where Sabrina was.
Sabrina was a witch. All the time she was a witch. A fucking witch. I hadn't known since she had never shifted because she'd told me she had lost her wolf years ago during the attack by Nikola. There were many wolves like her who'd lost their wolf counterparts so it wasn't suspicious in any way.
I had expected her to be the traitor, that for whatever reason she had no choice but to work for the enemy, but this changed everything. Sabrina had been a spy from the beginning, she had been sent to infiltrate the pack. And she managed to hide her true powers and scent like Adriana had, giving her the smell of a wolf.
Sabrina flexed her fingers and released a force of magic, but the witches countered it and redirected her attack back to her. Ryker used the opportunity to jump over the rift and lunged at Sabrina before she could make a move.
He clawed his nails into her flesh, tossing her against a hard rock. Instantly, I shifted back to my human form, locking my claws around her neck and pinning her down firmly.
“They're almost here,” Adriana glanced back at the tunnel we escaped through. They had spelled it to buy us some time but I guess our time was up.
Agatha, Talia, and Gwen had begun channeling their magic to create a portal that could lead us to the pack. Once the portal appeared, Maya, Caden, Gwen, and Talia rushed through it.
I brought my gaze back to Sabrina. “You deserve worse than death,” Before she could speak, I slit her throat and tossed her body down the cliff. Just as vampires rushed out of the tunnel, Adriana and I jumped through the portal, and Agatha followed suit.
