Chapter 268 The Rise Of The Wolf Phoenix
Chapter 268 The Rise Of The Wolf Phoenix
Kael's pov
I hear so many voices. Someone shouts my name, someone else begs me to stop.
I hear none of it.
Only revenge.
Only blood.
Then the scent of Adrian hits my nose through the whole chaos, the bastard I’m supposed to kill a long time ago and my rags increase. I throw off the remaining people trying to hold me, heading towards the bastard. I have him on the ground, my claws on his neck about to tear his throat out when magic slams me away from him.
"KAEL!" Dante shouts through the mind link. "Calm the fuck down!"
It’s all their fault.
Everyone of them.
I turn my blood-red gaze back towards the fleeing students. Professor Claude steps between me and the terrified crowd, raising a shimmering shield to block my path. I hurl my massive body against the barrier, again and again, the sickening sound of bones breaking and skin splitting against the magical wall doing nothing to slow my relentless assault. Someone attempts to tackle me from behind, but I snap my weight around and throw them through a stone pillar.
Then I feel Thallia's magic wrap around my limbs like burning chains. I snap my jaws in her direction, fighting against the magic but Alpha Roderick, Thalric, Nerezza, Dean Gary, Coach Stevens, Jaxon, and Dante slam into me simultaneously, driving my massive frame flat against the hard ground and pinning my thrashing limbs under their combined weight. I snap wildly at their throats, my eyes burning with an insatiable desire to butcher every single living soul in this courtyard until there is nothing left.
"Kael, calm down and listen to me!" Professor Claude's says, stepping into my line of sight. "Listen to me! You’re still alive! Look at yourself—your heart is still beating! If you’re still alive, then she is not dead! You two are fated mates!"
Ghost’s ferocious, bloodthirsty howling cuts off instantly as the words crash through the dark fog of our madness. The blinding red haze covering my vision slowly dissolves, allowing the desperate faces of my packmates and other people trying to hold me down to focus above me as my heart hammers against my ribs.
The realization hits me like a physical blow…..we are fated mates.
Then how am I still alive?
"Look!" I hear Thalia shrieks from across the courtyard, and I turn towards her to see her pointing toward the center of the clearing.
My heart freezes in my chest at what I see and I force Thalric and the others off my back, scrambling up onto my feet. Before our eyes, a blinding burst of red fire envelops Aria’s motionless form like a cocoon of flame. The fire consumes her until her entire body is covered in a thick, glowing mound of white ash. A collective gasp of awe ripples through the crowd, everyone frozen in stunned silence as the ash begins to pulse with a soft, rhythmic golden light.
Suddenly, I feel it.
The unmistakable, powerful sound of my mate’s beating heart.
The glowing mound of ash shifts, and like a mythological legend reborn from the fires of destruction, the kind of shit we only see in TV, Aria bursts through the dust, sitting upright with a harsh, desperate gasp of air as she coughs.
"Holy hell..."
A sudden, electrifying shockwave ripples through the air as I feel her through our bind, like something is snapping back into place, flooding my entire being with her radiant warmth, her pulsing life force, and her vibrant soul. Even Ghost is speechless.
Our mate is unkillable.
Out mate is fucking unkillable.
I’m already sprinting across the courtyard, shifting immediately I reach her, dropping to my knees and scooping her up off the ash-covered floor, lifting her completely off her feet into a fierce, breathless embrace. “Kael…”, she cry against my chest.
I pull back, my shaking hands running frantically all over her face, her hair. her chest, her shoulders, and the rest of her body, checking every inch of her to confirm that she is truly back, that the wound is completely gone, and that her heart is beating.
"Don't you ever do that to me again," I rasp against her cheek as I cup her jaw and crash my lips onto hers in a deep, desperate kiss.
Our lips move together in a passionate, wild rhythm, the raw relief and love flowing through our bond. Aria wraps her legs tightly around my waist, her hands going around my neck as she pulls me closer, matching the fierce intensity of my hunger as her tears mingle with mine against our cheeks.
"I love you," I whisper fiercely against her mouth, pulling back just an inch to look into her beautiful, glowing eyes.
"I love you too, Kael," she breathes back, and pulls me right back into another deep, intoxicating kiss.
The rustle of movement around us gradually breaks through the haze of our reunion, and I reluctantly pull our lips apart while keeping my arms still wrapped around her. I look out over the courtyard and my breath catches in my throat as I take in the unbelievable sight before us.
Every single person in the clearing……from the surviving students and staff to Dante, Jaxon, Alpha Michael, the vampire coven, and even Alpha Thalric himself…. has dropped to one knee, their eyes lowered.
It’s an absolute reverence to a supreme, godlike entity that has conquered death itself.
A proud smile spreads across my face as I gently set Aria back down on her feet. Looking up into her glowing eyes, I step back and slowly lower one of my knees to the ground, lowering my gaze to the incredible woman who holds my entire world in her hands.
My mate.
My Queen.
