Chapter 267 Loosing her

Chapter 267 Loosing her
Kael's pov
I don't understand what is happening when I feel terror run through Aria so fast it steals the breath from my lungs.

One second she is standing in my arms, smiling at what Dante and Jaxon were saying and the next she rips herself out of my arms, and I follow her movement.

Time slows…….

I watch her shove Alpha Roderick out of the way just as a silver blade disappears into her body. The pain explodes through my own chest at the exact same instant, so real that I instinctively look down expecting to see the knife buried inside me instead.

Then I hear myself scream.

Ghost erupts inside my head with a howl so savage it feels like my soul is splitting open.

OUR MATE!

I don’t remember shifting, I only remember blood.

Silena barely has time to look up before Ghost tears into her. Teeth rip through flesh, claws split bone, and another wolf crashes into her from the side, but I don't even register who it is because nothing matters except the female collapsing onto the ground behind her.

Our mate.

The instant Silena stops moving, the pain becomes unbearable and I fall to the ground, shifting back.

Everything shatters into a terrifying, agonizing blur as the pain of the wound overwhelms my senses, threatening to drag me into total darkness. Ghost and I scream in unified agony, our bodies writhing on the cold ground. Across the small courtyard, Aria lies on her side, her trembling hand clutching her blood-drenched chest as her blood rapidly drains onto the ground.

Aria

Dragging my paralyzed limbs forward inch by painful inch, I extend my hand across the stone, my vision darkening around the edges as I hear my mate's voice.

Kael… she calls through our mindlink.

No!

God, please, no!

My heart is hammering as my fingers desperately claw at the rough ground to narrow the distance between us.

She is in so much pain.

How in the name of the Goddess could this be happening when the battle was supposed to be over. When we had finally won our freedom?

She is going to be alright, I try to reassure myself. It’s just a flesh wound.

But I know it’s a lie.

I can feel it.

Her heart is getting fainter and Ghost is screaming in agony in my head. There is too much pain.

Refusing to yield to the creeping darkness, I push through the agonizing torment through sheer will, my trembling fingertips sliding across the cobblestones until they finally brush against hers just as her eyelids flutter shut.

"No... Aria... open your eyes!" I sob aloud, the raw, heartbreaking plea ripping from my lungs as I use the absolute last reserve of my fading strength to reach her, pulling her limp, blood-soaked body tightly into my lap.

“Please open your eyes baby.”

I put my hands over the hole on her chest.

So much blood.

She isn’t healing.

Why isn’t she healing!!!

A guttural, soul-shattering roar of pure horror, terror, and unadulterated grief bursts from my chest, echoing off the smoldering ruins of the administration block as I cradle her fragile frame against my pounding heart. Alpha Roderick rushes to the other side of her body with tears streaming down his face, but my feral instincts flare wildly and I let out a vicious, defensive growl and snap my jaws at him, clutching Aria even closer to my chest, completely unbothered by my own excruciating pain as long as I can protect her.

The infirmary

I need to get her to the infirmary.

But it is so far away……we will never make it…..I will never make it.

"Do something! Please, do something!" I scream at Professor Claude, not caring about the tears falling down my face as I look up at the gathering crowd of horrified, sobbing onlookers.

The massive puncture wound in her chest remains wide open, refusing to close or knit together. Thallia frantically drops to her knees beside us, placing her glowing palms directly over the wound as she chants, but the magic fizzles harmlessly against Aria's cold skin without effect. She slowly lowers her hands, looking up at me with tear-filled eyes as she solemnly shakes her head, confirming the unimaginable truth.

"No! No, Aria, please!" I sob, pressing my forehead against hers as I feel the absolute last, frail beat of her heart come to a complete, sickening stop.

The moment her heart ceases to beat, I feel something leave me and Ghost roars in my head, the fragile thread of our sanity snapping entirely, and our mind drowns in a sea of pure madness.

A blood-curdling shriek rips from my throat as the primal, bloodthirsty rage takes complete control, forcing my body to shift into Ghost with an explosion of dark, monstrous energy. My eyes wash over into a solid, crimson haze, bloodlust and fury consuming my thoughts as I completely lose all sense of self.

Blood! Ghost roars inside my head. They did this! Kill them all!

I snap my foam-dripping jaws at the surrounding crowd of students and staff, launching my massive frame forward to slaughter everything in sight, only for Alpha Thalric’s massive wolf to slam into my flank, knocking me away from the scattering students.

Spinning on my hind legs, I let out a snarl at Thalric, hot foam dripping from my lips as I set my sights on his throat. It is all their fault—the councillors, the staff, this pathetic academy—they built this place, they put us here, and I’m going to paint these grounds with their intestines and level this entire institution to the ground.

I launch myself straight at Thalric with terrifying speed and tears into the older wolf with enough force to rip open his shoulder before Nerezza rushes in to help.

Too slow.

Ghost catches her leg and bone crunches between his jaws. Her scream barely registers before a blue wolf crashes into my ribs but I throw Alpha Roderick aside as though he weighs nothing.

More wolves come.

Magic come

Silver chains.

Feeling their familiar burn only makes me more mad and I tear through the chain, throwing off half of the people trying to hold me down. Claws rake across my flank, teeth sink into my shoulder, yet pain means nothing now because nothing can compare to losing her.
