Chapter 16 PHYSIOLOGY OF ELEMENTS
Chapter 16 PHYSIOLOGY OF ELEMENTS
Aria's POV
The next day went by with no real notable event. I still continued classes and although they didn't really help me, I tried putting my focus into them. I started taking notes, and actually listening. I have accepted my fate and I have decided to be absolutely free with it.
I started to live and I would have to admit that I felt better with the world and myself. I also didn't have any encounters with bullies but the usual degrading insults were thrown at me once or twice but I ignored them, they’d finally grown stale to my ears.
Classes ended in the evening and the team gathered at my room which seemed to have unnoticingly become our meeting point.
“Well, I hope you all understand how to solve the assignment from the physiology of elements. I don't know why they bore us with such subjects, our ancestors in the past didn't need to calculate or understand some big words created by some drunk scientists to understand how to use their powers.” Zephyr muttered as he flipped open the parchment in his hand.
Ciora sighed. “I agree with you this time, flame-boy, I just don't see the reason. I don't even get the basis of the subject.” she frowned, glaring at her own parchment with despair written all over her porcelain face.
I smiled because for the first time I felt in control or at least better than both of them. “I think I understand it. I can explain it, if you want,” I said. Unlike them, I didn't have powers, so I was able to glean the information from another viewpoint completely. It also helped that I actually have a very good memory, so I am able to remember things quite well.
Zephyr heaved a sigh of relief. “Please, explain it.”
“Alright, the issue is I don't really get the formulas but the core of the subject is quite easy.” I began, making sure they all were following, including Payten who was seated beside Ciora after being forced to. He hung his head downwards timidly.
“Elemental Physiology basically talks about how elements behave in their natural state before being tampered by us. The normal fire, the normal water, the usual rock, the air we breathe. They all react in certain ways that become the basis of us manipulating them. If you understand the nature of an element. You will understand its core.”
I paused to breathe, I had forgotten too due to my excitement. Their faces as they listened to me intently like some professional made me want to giggle but I continued anyway. “For example. Fire is the element of energy and power. Fire comes from the conversion of energy into heat and light through combustion. If you can imagine fire as the element of power instead of just something that burns you will get a better insight into the core of the element.”
Zephyr frowned. “Did you just explain my own element to me better than I have ever understood it?” he bulged his eyes. “You are smart. I just knew I had to choose you all, this team is going to be the dark horse of this year.”
Ciora glanced at him with her side eye. “Of course, let her explain the remaining elements for the love of Malek!”
Zephyr gestured, locking his mouth with a rather gruesome sign that made us all exclaim. “Water is the element of change and vitality. Also the oldest element. It is said that water predates the existence of life itself. This makes it a very vast element and that is why so many kingdoms can trace their roots to the basic element of water. The Storm kingdom, the Flure kingdom and the Mist Kingdom. I do believe that water represents life in all of its forms.” I continued.
“Air is the element of freedom. The element of freedom and communication. Air is a mixture of several gases and most of these are vital to life. It is hard to explain the air as an element as it is rather broad and it also relates with all other elements the best. That is why the Storm kingdom usually claims they take their root from the Air as their basic element but it isn't really true.
Payten raised his hand and everyone turned to his direction and almost immediately he wanted to retract it. “No. No. Ask!” We all screamed in unison.
“I just. Isn't the storm naturally the air enraged? Why is water then the Storm kingdom’s basic element?”
“The storm kingdom possesses dominion over rain, snow, hail storms, lightning. All of these are mixtures of air and water. That big formula is supposed to explain it but I am not too keen on formulas.”
Payten smiled. “I know a bit of the formulas,” he said. “I can explain that big one too. Your explanation made it easier to understand now.”
“Yes! I am so gonna pass with flying colours,” Zephyr muttered.
I was about to continue when a knock landed on the door. Zephyr opened it up and two guards stepped into our room. “Everyone stand up, you are going to the Head Teacher for questioning!” One of them ordered.
“What?” Ciora muttered.
“The two guards who were supposed to be patrolling your wing were found dead this morning. I can't give more details than that. Please follow me!”
We all filed out and at that moment I remembered I was supposed to meet Kael soon to begin my training. I exhaled, realizing I might just be missing a lifetime opportunity. That mysterious man had accepted to teach me out of the blue, if I didn't show up, he would probably not want to ever train me again.
We were almost at the Head Teacher's office when someone blocked our path. I looked up to see Kael with his usual frowned face. “I need the girl,” he said simply.
“We were ordered to bring her in.” The guards replied.
“Question the others. I need the girl!” I was pulled away by Kael who didn't spare the guards a second glance.
“Did you really think I would let you miss your training?” he asked.
“I didn't think you care,” I countered.
“Well. I do, because it will be very fun for me. I can't say the same for you!” he replied with a smirk on his face.
