Chapter 854 Chapter 854
Oryn held the phone in her hand and stared at it. She’d tried to push the green symbol, but nothing happened. What if it was someone calling because something had happened to one of the kids? She pushed the red symbol, and then the phone stopped vibrating, and both symbols disappeared.
When it first vibrated and lit up, it scared the hell out of her.
The door opened, and Uri got in. She held the phone out. “I didn’t know how to answer it.”
He took and touched the screen a few times and then tapped a green button. She heard it ringing.
“Uri.”
“Sorry, I was outside, Calum.”
“I figured as much.”
“Are the kids, okay?” Oryn wasn’t going to sit here while they had a friendly chat.
“They are fine. We thought we’d check in while we’re stopped for fuel and bathroom breaks.”
“Is Oryn there?”
She heard Tony ask. “I’m here, Tony. How are you?”
“My toes got so hot; I had to take off my boots.”
She smiled. “Just put them back on if you go outside.”
“I will. Adam threw up all over his boots.”
She grabbed the phone out of Uri’s hand. “Is he okay? What happened?”
“He’s fine, Oryn.” It was Ben. “He ate too much and then added a whole bag of candy and three bottles of juice. Miss Shae says that’s why he puked.”
“I shouldn’t have had three burgers.”
She was happy to hear Adam. “Well—” She shook her head. “Maybe eat smaller amounts while you’re in a moving vehicle.”
“Yeah.”
“Are you okay, Oryn?”
Hearing Ben’s voice gave her a moment of peace. She missed them, but sending them with the others had been the right thing to do. “I’m good, Ben. I’m helping Uri get the information they need to take out Kenric.”
“Best news ever. Oh, we’re going to go soon. Miss Shae wants to talk to you.”
She nodded. “Okay. Give Mila a hug from me.”
“Yeah, okay.”
“Oryn, it’s Shaelan. I just wanted to update you. Charlotte is a bit better. The pains seem to be less for the last few hours. I really think it’s stress-related.”
Oryn stared at the phone. “So, she’ll get better soon?”
“That's my hope.” Shaelan sounded so calm. It made Oryn trust what she was saying. “Mila and Dylan, I’m about eighty percent certain they have a form of bacterial pneumonia. I’m going to start them on some antibiotics. We should see improvement by tomorrow if I’m right.”
She felt her eyes tear up. It was such a relief that her emotions were taking over. “That's good news. Thank you, Shaelan.”
“I’ll update you again later.”
“Thank you.”
Uri leaned closer. “Calum?”
“I’m here.”
Uri looked at her and then took the phone out of her hand. “Can you take it off speaker for a second?”
“Sure.” She could hear the man breathing into the phone now. “What’s going on?”
Uri blew out a breath. “I did a quick look-see up close before it’s light out and—” He glanced out the window toward the house. “There’s a large tank sitting outside. It's been damaged from the inside.”
Oryn wasn’t sure how he knew that, but he was tense, so it wasn’t a good thing.
“Any evidence of blood?”
Her eyes widened.
“I can’t sniff it out like you, but I could taste salt, so…”
“Sea clan or they’re idiots and had water clan in salt water.”
Uri nodded. “I’m not sure if I tell Konner right away or?”
The man on the other end sighed. “See if you can get any views inside. I’m hoping what you saw was a miscalculation on their part, and they didn’t realize how strong females are.”
Uri nodded again. “So, see if I can spot a tank inside with someone in it?”
“Yeah. I’ll be talking to Konner later, so let me know if you’ve seen anything inside.”
Uri looked relieved. “I will.”
“I spoke to Amari earlier. She’ll be there by tonight.” Calum sounded amused.
Oryn watched Uri’s expression change. She wasn’t sure why, but he looked anxious to her.
“Okay. I'll have a holding location figured out by then.”
“The others should be in the area tomorrow.”
Uri sighed and the relief in his expression was clear to see. “That’s good. With Oryn and I both observing, I’m hoping to have useful Intel by then.”
“Keep me up to date. I wanted to stay, but first, the kids needed to get back to your clan.” Oryn was happy with his choice. “We’re heading out again.”
“Sounds good.” The phone went quiet.
She watched him put it back in the holder. “Do you think the shifter that was in the tank is alive?”
He rubbed his hand over his face. “I hope so or Konner will blow up the house as well as destroy the boats.”
Oryn paused for a moment and pictured that. Overall, it would be a very fitting end for such a horrible man like Kenric. “How do we get information faster?”
Uri was pulling a case out from under his seat. When he opened it, she was surprised to see that it was a big handgun.
He grinned. “Tranquilizer darts.” He pointed to the case beside the gun. “If we have to knock people out and tie them up, we will.”
She smiled. “I thought you just watched.”
The smirk on his face was amusing. “I’ve been known to secretly help a time or two.”
She watched him put the gun and darts into his backpack. Turning in his seat, he shifted a few totes.
“Want to help place a few mini cameras around the place? It will make our job easier and faster. We need to hurry before it’s daylight to get the closest ones in place.”
Oryn nodded. She didn’t care what they were going to do or had to do, just as long as she got Kenric Castro. Sooner was better, but if she had to wait a few days, that was okay, too.
