Chapter 842 Chapter 842
He waited a few minutes to make sure she wasn’t going to come back out. He got why she watched him the way she did, but it still sent shivers up and down his spine when she did it. Pulling his phone out, he checked the battery level. It would be good for a few hours. He'd plug it into the battery pack before heading to the clearing. He didn’t know who to call; he just knew that he needed someone on the way here so that when the kids left, he wouldn’t have to watch Oryn when he was supposed to be gathering Intel. His gut told him that the first chance she got, she’d take Kenric out without pause. He had no problem with a man like that being taken off the planet, but if he had the answers Alliance security and the king needed, then it was his job to make sure he was intact when they went in.
Mumbling under his breath, he brought up Fallan’s number and asked her to get Calum, Wynter, and Kenzo on a call if possible. He couldn’t remember where Kenzo was or if he was on standby waiting, but they’d spent a lot of time working together and coordinating taking out a lot of places in the last six months, so his input was one he knew he could trust. Calum and Wynter were more for giving a heads-up before they got here.
She sent back, if possible? With a laughing emoji. He took that as a sign she would reach all three people.
His phone buzzed twenty seconds later. “Hello.”
“If possible.” Fallan chuckled. “Next time, give me something hard.”
He grinned. “I’ll see what I can come up with.”
“Uri? Are those kids okay?” It was Wynter.
“Yes. They are. I just talked to Konner, and he’ll be dropping supplies near us tonight.”
“Good. Good. I made sure Benny added some special things in for each one of them.”
Uri couldn’t wait to see what that was. Hopefully, none of it was bulky because they had to turn around and haul it down the mountain.
“I’m here too, Uri.” It was Calum. “Shae and I are on our way to meet up with Wynter. Raymond is sending us by chopper.”
Uri felt better knowing the plan had been figured out in the time they’d spoke last. Although, if there was one thing this group was good at, it was thinking on the fly. He grinned at his own thoughts. Then remembered he couldn’t fly right now.
“I'm just cooling my shit, waiting,” Wynter said. “There’s none of the kids nearby right now, is there?”
He stifled a laugh. “No, they’re getting settled in for the night.”
“I’m here.” Kenzo sounded out of breath. “Fallan caught me right after I shifted back. Fastest I’ve ever gotten dressed.”
“Thought you were down south.” Calum sounded amused.
“I am. You never know what’s going to sneak up on you here. I didn't want to be naked if something did.”
Wynter’s laugh was loud. “I’d be more worried about voodoo than any critters.”
“I know.” Kenzo blew out into the phone. “What’s going on?”
“Uri is in B.C. for Kenric Castro, and he came across a woman and eight kids that have been hiding for a year since Kenric’s people killed their clan.”
Uri shrugged. Calum summed it up without all the heartstrings attached.
Kenzo growled. “Do you need me there?”
“No. To be honest, I’m not sure why Uri needed to put this call together.”
Uri glanced over his shoulder to make sure he was out here alone. “Oryn isn’t going with the kids right away.”
“Why not? They’re going to need her.” Wynter’s tone was quiet.
“I don’t think them ending up here is a coincidence. She’s after Kenric.”
“Revenge.” Wynter summed it up with one word.
“Yeah. She’s not Alliance, so we can’t make her—” He walked toward the trees. “She actually thought the Alliance was a hoax when we first came across each other.” He sighed. “When I was shot and landed in the bay, she hauled me out, or I might not have gotten out.”
“How serious is the injury?”
“I’ll be in the air again by the end of tomorrow, Kenzo. It’s more a nick, just a bad spot for flying. My aves isn’t happy.”
“That’s good then.” Kenzo sounded like he was walking toward people. “Wait, you're what?”
“Aves, another word for bird because I hate saying that.”
“Oh, I like that.”
“Konner also wants a good team headed this way, some with rifle experience. He sounded pretty vengeful too.”
“Are you at the location where Calla saw a water clan member in a tank?” Kenzo paused and then the voices were quieter. “Eaton filled me in.”
“Yeah, this is that location.”
“What do you need, Uri?”
He looked back at the building. “Honestly, I don’t know. A team inbound in case Konner goes off the rails…”
“I don't see that happening.” Wynter sounded convinced. “Konner follows orders.”
“He said something about disabling the boats Kenric uses.”
“That wasn’t discussed, but I trust him.”
“Konner knows how to stay in the lines.” Calum offered.
“I suppose he does. He’s calling some of the Sea clan to come meet near here.”
“That might change the equation.” Kenzo cleared his throat. “I can send Eaton that way. She’s good at knowing what lines should not be crossed.” He chuffed. “Mostly. She’s good for the breech too.”
Uri nodded. A female might be helpful. Wynter was a woman, obviously, but he didn't know if she’d be of any help talking Oryn down if she rushed to Kenric’s place. He also wanted her along for the trip back with the kids. “Eaton is a good idea.”
“The only other one I have with time on their hands right now is Tripp. The trip to the US HQ was put on pause for a week. Too many rushing that way was going to be too noticeable if anyone was watching, according to Raymond.” Kenzo paused. “And with Tripp comes Amari.”
Uri exhaled.
“Both excellent on a rifle,” Calum added. “Amari doesn’t do rules very well, but she knows when someone needs to stay alive for information.”
Amari was another female. Maybe Oryn would settle down with more around. Tripp was a little on the crazy side, but that wasn’t always bad. “Those two with Eaton are a good start to a team.”
“I’d have to check, but I think Jett and Sloane are on downtime right now. I could send them your way. It's getting hard to remember where everyone is, but I’m not complaining. We are getting this done.” Wynter snorted.
“Chopper is coming in,” Calum said. “I’m going to have to go. I’ll see you soon, Uri.”
“Shout when you’re nearby, Calum.”
“Will do.”
Uri blew out a breath. “Okay, so Jett, Sloane, Eaton, Tripp, Amari, and Konner said Kaid had someone from cleanup on route and tech as well.”
“Nola is heading that way,” Fallan said quietly. “If there’s any tech in that place with Kenric, we need it. The last house pointed to so many locations and people, so we have to recover anything there.”
Uri nodded. That much he already knew. “I think that’s a good team, plus Konner and I don’t know if the Sea clan being in the mix, but at least one will be nearby in case the one in the tank is from sea clan and not water clan.”
“How soon can you get on the surveillance?” Kenzo sounded like he’d rather be here instead of Louisiana.
“As soon as the kids are packed up and on the road, I’ll be heading there and start tracking all movement.”
“So, a few days before anyone can move?”
“At least.” If he was having to watch Oryn all the time, it was going to take longer. “Tell Tripp and Amari to get here as soon as possible.”
“I will. You call if you need more. I have a few that should be done what they’re doing in a few days.”
“Sounds good.” Uri knew that was Kenzo’s way of wanting off the call. “You watch your back, Kenzo.”
“And my front and both sides all at the same time.” He chuckled. “Xia is back, so I better go.”
“Eren will be there in a few days to save you from too much local culture.” Fallan sounded amused.
“It’s not the culture that’s getting to me, it's the vibes around here. Sets my animal off every thirty seconds. It’s exhausting.”
Uri had never been there and from the sounds of it, he could live without visiting. “Take care, Kenzo.”
“Always do.”
“He’s hung up,” Fallan said quietly.
“I better get going too. I’m going to have a nice long nap so I can be alert while we transport those kids.”
“All right, Wynter. I’ll see you when you get here.”
“Yeah.”
“Anything else, Uri?” Fallan sounded like she wanted to talk, problem with that was, she usually went on about something tech that he didn’t understand.
“No. I think we covered it. I need to go check the perimeters while they rest.”
“I’ll leave you to it. Have a good night.”
The line went dead. He looked at his phone and then put it in his pocket. He felt a little better now. Although, Amari was a wild card, so it could change without notice with her around.
