KRIS:
"Hallelujah. You drove yourself to school today!" Chris announced, placing a hand on his chest as he approached me.
I had just alighted from my car in the parking lot.
"I know right? I'm proud of myself." I grinned.
He pulled me into a bear hug.
"Dude, stop acting like you haven't seen me for ages."
"Shut up. Enjoy the moment while it lasts. And I'm only hugging you because I'm proud of you. You're finally becoming a woman."
the dude could be so dramatic.
"Whatever." I rolled my eyes.
Just then, a black mustang pulled into the parking lot and Jake came out. He saw me and walked towards us smiling.
"Hi, Chris," Jake said.
"Hi, yourself," Chris replied.
Then they did that bro-hug thing.
"Wait, you guys know each other?" I was surprised.
"Yeah. We have most classes together. And who wouldn't know him? He's new." Chris said.
"Oh—”
"Jake! Hi." I was interrupted by a familiar ear-piercing voice.
Tiana Cooper.
She sashayed towards us and immediately glued herself to his side. He looked at her and gave her a small smile. She immediately started rambling about God knows what. I held Chris's hand and pulled him towards the school building. I wasn't about to start listening to Tiana's crap.
"I'm so jealous of you," Chris started, still walking hand in hand with me.
I raised my brows at him, sparing him a glance.
"You're getting the attention of all the hot guys in school." He continued.
Dude! Really?
"It's because I'm so pretty." I sassed back, rolling my eyes.
"Yeah. Wish you weren't so pretty." He pouted and I laughed.
"It's not that much of a big deal and it's not like I'm interested in a relationship with any of them. We're just friends." I clarified, shrugging.
"It's a big deal to me. You're gonna replace me." He cried out dramatically, pouting while he stared at me with puppy eyes.
He could be so cute at times.
"Aww, mama will never leave you, baby." Grinning, I smacked my lips on his cheeks, making him chuckle.
"We're not interested in seeing your PDA," Lexi called from behind us.
"Don't be jealous, bitch." I said, "Or do you want me to kiss you too?" I asked as I turned to her, wiggling my brows.
"That would be so hot. Two girls making out in the hallway." Chris sighed dreamily.
"Eww." Lexi and I chorused.
We walked together until I got to my locker and I bade them goodbye. I had to take a textbook for my first class. Moments later, I strode into the class to find Valentine occupying my seat at the back.
Well, not exactly my seat but I always sat there.
I walked to him and took the next seat close to him. It was Math class so I'd rather sit and converse with him than get bored.
"Hi, Kris." He greeted me with a smile.
"Hi, so you decided to take my seat today huh?"
"It's not your seat and I came here first." He smirked and I rolled my eyes.
At that moment, Mr. Dale came into the class and the lesson began. He proceeded to ask for the homework he gave on the previous day which I, being a good student, did. I know I said I didn't like math but I also didn't like being in detention so I always did my assignments.
"Did you do your homework?" Valentine whispered.
"Yeah." I knew what was coming next.
"What can I do to get you to let me copy yours?" He winked.
"You'd have to kill me first." I smiled sweetly.
I wasn't going to let him copy mine. I worked hard to get the answers so I couldn't give them to him.
Soon, Mr. Dale got to Valentine’s desk, "Mr. Fox, where's your homework?"
"I couldn't do it. I asked Kris to help me but she declined."
My eyes shot to him at his words but he stared at me innocently as though he hadn't just lied.
In an attempt to tell the truth, I opened my mouth to speak but was cut short by the teacher, "Miss. Morgan, if you wouldn't mind, help him in your free time and as for you Mr. Fox, make sure you submit it tomorrow." He said before moving on to start the class.
Valentine smiled at me smugly.
Fucker.
The rest of the class was spent with me trying to sketch Valentine with horns and him plotting ways to steal my math note which he failed miserably at.
Valentine and I had most of our classes together, hence when the bell for lunch break went off, we walked out of our class and headed for the Cafeteria with his hand lazily slung on my shoulder.
I knew I was getting stares from everyone. All thanks to him, but I couldn't care less. People would always find juicy gossip.
We reached the cafeteria, got our lunch, and settled at our usual table. Soon, my friends joined us and we started eating. Well, until Lucian walked in and the room became quiet. It was as if time stopped.
He walked over to our table and sat down next to me. It was the only vacant seat since Valentine was on my other side and Lexi glued herself to him while practically drooling while Chris and Paige were across the table.
He picked fries from my plate and I glared at him.
One more thing you should know about me, I. Don't. Share. My. Food.
He was about to take more but I slapped his hand away, "Dude, get your food."
"I want yours." A smile enhanced his already hot as hell features but I was too hungry to let it work on me.
"Ha! Then get ready to starve." I tried pushing my tray away from his reach but he grabbed my hand.
"Chill. I'll get you another one."
"Pinky promise?" I narrowed my eyes at him, raising my pinky.
"Pinky promise." He grinned. I finally looked away from him to see all eyes on us.
Really? They can't just mind their business?
I somehow made eye contact with Tiana and I swear if she could spit fire at me she would’ve done it. I gave her a sugar-coated smile and intentionally scratched the side of my face with my middle finger.
Take that bitch.
It was childish but I didn't care. Someone needed to tell her how pathetic she was.
Everyone resumed eating. Well, at least we did until Tiana left her table and sauntered over to us. She was coming to stake a claim where she had none. She got to us and glued herself to Lucian's side, immediately placing a hand on his shoulder.
He stared at her hand and raised his head to give her a cold look.
The bitch didn't get the message.
She tilted her chest to display her tiny breast through the low-neck crop top she was wearing. Her breasts were supposed to be on the show but let me tell you, all I saw was her flat chest Her boobs can’t even reach the first b in the spelling of boobs.
Don't call me mean. I’m just being truthful.
If she wasn't so dumb, she'd know that Lucian didn't want her around but she didn't get the message so I decided to do the honors.
"Bitch! Stop flashing us your chest. If you wanna get his attention go get your titties enlarged." I gave her a smug look.
"Luc—” She tried getting his attention but he interrupted her.
"You heard her." He replied.
The whole room was filled with sounds of Ohs and Ah’s. She stared at me in anger and stomped off.
Laughter filled the room.
__________________________________________________________
It was one of those days when my mom had a night shift at the hospital so I got to stay home all alone. I was used to it. It has been a part of my life ever since I was young.
Growing up, I spent a lot of time at Paige's house. Her mom was a second mom to me. On nights like these, I usually slept over at their place or she would come over.
Paige and I planned to spend the night at my place. It was almost 8 p.m. but she had not yet arrived. She was supposed to have arrived an hour ago. I hoped that she had not abandoned me for her late-night adventures. She was more than capable of that.
I picked up my phone to dial her number, just then I heard the doorbell ring.
That’s strange. Paige doesn't use the doorbell. She barges in or has she lost her spare key? I asked myself.
I looked through the peephole and to my surprise it was Lucian.
What's he doing here?
I opened the door.
"Errr...Hi?" I asked, surprised, "What are you doing here?"
"Is that how to welcome visitors?" He stared at me, unblinking.
Is he a visitor?
"You're no visitor, Lucian."
"I told you not to call me that."
"Ohh...you're no visitor, Angel." I grinned.
"Then let me in."
I moved past the doorway as he entered, closing the door behind him.
"You still haven't told me why you're here."
"Am I not welcome?" For a moment, a look of hurt flashed across his features, but it was gone as soon as it had app appeared. "It's not that. It's just that it's late and you should be home."
"Quit worrying about me. You're home alone and I'm here to keep you company."
Aww…always ready to help me.
"Thanks for caring but Paige is on her way. We're having a sleepover."
I wanted him to stay but Paige was already coming. I didn’t want to cancel out on her.
"When she comes, I'll leave."
Always persistent.
Just then, my phone beeped. I checked to see a text from Paige.
Paige: I'm so sorry Kris. I'm going on a date with this hot guy I met. I won't be able to make it. I'll tell Lexi or Chris to come over. Please don't hate me. I still love you.
Me: Don't worry about that. Someone is here. I love you too but you owe me the details of that date.
Paige: Who is staying with you?
Me: Lucian Paige: 😮 I'm getting details from you tomorrow. Don't let me down 😜
I heard a chuckle. I looked up to see Lucian looking at my phone.
"Wait...you read my texts?"
He shrugged.
"Do you know the meaning of privacy at all?" I questioned.
"You didn't exactly hide it from me and I was curious." He grinned.
Have I mentioned how hot he looks when he grins?
For a minute I forgot what I was saying, "Stop drooling." He smirked.
That snapped me out of my haze, "I wasn't drooling."
"Sure." He rolled his eyes.
"So, I guess you know Paige isn't coming anymore and I really can't sleep alone in this house. So will you…"
I can't believe I'm asking him to spend the night with me.
"You want me to sleep with you?" He smirked.
Ugh.
"Yes."
"Okay." He grinned mischievously.
We stayed up late, watched a few episodes of The Witcher, then we played twenty questions. Well, more like I answered twenty questions because he didn't answer most of the questions I asked but I answered all of his.
It was getting late and I was feeling sleepy. I decided to go to bed. I stood up and so did he.
Huh?
"You're going home?" I asked, confused.
"No. You asked me to sleep with you, remember?"
"Yes?"
"Lead me to your room." He grinned mischievously.
OMG!! Why didn't I think of that?
I facepalm-ed myself and he laughed.
"I meant you should spend the night here."
"You're no fun." He pouted.
I rolled my eyes, "Will you be comfortable on the couch?"
His eyes drifted to it as if he was considering it before he finally replied, "Yeah. Just get me a blanket."
"Thanks for agreeing to babysit me." I hugged him. He stood frozen before wrapping his arms around me.
His body was so warm. I could fall asleep in his arms.
He released me and I hurried up the stairs to get the blanket. I returned, handed it to him, bade him goodnight, and disappeared to my room.
Sometime in the middle of the night, I woke up to see a hard body pressed against mine and a hand-wound tightly around my waist. My first instincts were to scream but then his husky voice whispered into my ear, "Sleep. The couch was uncomfortable."
A sigh of relief escaped my lips. I didn't mind that he was on my bed. His body was warm and I needed the extra heat. Pulling the covers over us I went back to my peaceful slumber.
