Chapter 39: Drained and broken
KRIS:
It's been a month since I last had any contact with The Devil himself.
People knew we were not together anymore and luckily for me, no one has asked about it. Not even my friends nor my mom.
I wasn't ready to delve into my horrific tale: the tale of the girl that fell in love with her father's killer.
Worse than telling people of my ordeal, was how I felt.
Void. Like my heart had been ripped out of me.
There was also this constant feeling of guilt nagging at me.
You wanna know why?
I haven't done anything about the video. I didn't give it to the police and I haven't shown anyone.
I was letting my father's killer go scot free.
I hated myself for it but I couldn't just do it. I tried a couple of times for the past month but I just couldn't.
Yes! I hated him. I didn't care whatever happened to him but there was still this little part of me that couldn't bear to see him hurt.
The best decision I could make was to stay far away from him and I did just that.
I hoped my dad could forgive me wherever he was.
I also hadn't heard anything from unknown. Seemed he disappeared into thin air after baring the devil to me. But then I couldn't care more.
I couldn't stop thinking that I should have listened to Jake.
Speaking of Jake, I haven't seen him for the past month. I wanted to apologize to him for all the times I didn't listen to him.
Sitting at same table with my friends was becoming a torture. I didn't want anything to do with Lucian but Val was always present and wouldn't let me be.
Most times, I was tempted to sit alone but I didn't want to appear like a weirdo all because of Lucian.
So, I was ignoring all of them.
My head was down, solely focused on my meal.
The cafeteria door opened with a loud bang.
He's here.
I raised my head and snuck a peep at him. And of course his silver eyes were staring into my eyes like he's been doing for the past one month.
I should look away but it felt like there was a magnet in them drawing me to look more.
Eyes still on me, he walked to a nearby table and sat down.
Taking his eyes from me, he directed a cold look at the occupants of the table and they all scampered away.
All eyes were on him with the exception of my friends whose eyes were fixed on me.
Ignoring them, I returned my attention to my food, stabbing it with the fork I was holding.
I felt a presence so I looked up and off course, it had to be Tiana.
I stared blankly at her.
"Aww...poor Kris" she gushed, feigning pity.
I raised a brow at her.
"Luc finally saw you for who you are. Now you know you weren't good enough for him.” She gave a sugar-coated smile.
"You must be heartbroken.” She shook her head. Leaning down to my level, she said "Never try to compete with me.”
She stood to walk away.
I wasn't about to let that slide.
She was halfway through the cafeteria when I called her.
"Tiana!” I called loudly so everyone could hear.
She turned towards me, eyes staring at me with disgust.
"You can have him.” She smiled but I wasn't done.
"My mom taught me to give used toys to the less privileged.” I returned her smile.
Her face contorted with anger and everyone burst into fits of laughter.
She stomped away.
I turned my head just in time to see a smirk etched on his face with eyes on me.
Wanting to erase the annoying smirk, I threw the fork I was holding at him but he caught it.
Fuck him and his reflexes.
Not wanting to be around him anymore, I strapped my backpack to my shoulders and strode out of the cafeteria.
I felt eyes burning holes in my back but I couldn't care less.
