Chapter 38: Lost

LUCIAN:

I saw her in the hallway running towards the female restroom so I followed her.

Getting there, I heard soft sobs coming from one of the stalls.

She was crying.

I was about to tap on the door but I didn't feel good about it so I stopped.

Maybe she needs some time alone but I'll be here for her when she comes out. I told myself.

Fighting the strong urge to open the door, I rested by its side, waiting for her.

Her continuous heart wrenching sobs tugged at my heartstrings. It was becoming so hard to not break-in.

I closed my eyes to steady my temper but immediately, the door slightly shook.

Moving from where I was, I stood behind the door.

It opened to reveal her. Her eyes were red and puffy from crying so much. But that wasn't what caught my attention.

The look in her eyes.

It was filled with hatred. I could see the rage in them.

Only one thing came to mind.

Fuck!

She knows.

He told her.

Staring into her blue eyes I knew there was nothing I could do.

I made no move to explain myself. It would be as good as useless.

"You killed him.” She stated more than asked.

She stared at me like she was waiting for confirmation that it was true or not but I gave her nothing.

Only an emotionless look.

"Don't. Ever. Come. Close. To. Me. Again.” She said with gritted teeth.

I swallowed.

"I hate you with every part of my being. I despise you. You're a monster. You don't deserve to be alive.” She raged on.

I've been called all of those a gazillion times but none of them felt like hers.

It felt like poisonous arrows and spears were piercing my heart.

With tears streaming down her face, she shoved me aside and ran away.

I let her.

She took my heart with her.

Not wanting to be in the hellhole any more than I have, I trudged outside with heavy feet.

I felt empty like I'd lost the most important part of me.

I found myself exhaling more. It felt like the air I was breathing in wasn't enough to sustain me.

Entering my car, I zoomed out of the parking lot with only one thought in mind.

I'll end him.

I brought my car to a stop in the street before getting out and walking to his doorstep.

He wasn't home yet.

Probably consoling her and trying to take my place.

Not bothering with the doorbell, I worked on the door with my pocket knife.

Getting in, I closed the door and headed towards the kitchen.

I sat on the stool on the kitchen island, sipping from a bottle of whiskey I got from his homemade bar.

Pulling the hood of my black hoodie down, I raked my hand through my hair, tugging at the strands.

I took another sip from the bottle just as I heard the sound of the door opening.

Good.

I heard the sounds of approaching footsteps. He was coming to the kitchen.

He got to the doorway and rested on the door.

"I see you're making yourself comfortable in my house.” His gruffy voice scratched my ears.

I shrugged, taking another sip.

"State your business.” He said coldly.

"I'm in no rush. Take a seat, let's have a chitchat.” I pulled out the stool next to me and tapped it gently.

"Why? Are. You. Here?" He asked through gritted teeth, clenching his fist like he was ready for a fight.

"You know why.” I sipped from the bottle. "You blackmailed her.”

He merely smiled.

"She was never yours. Bastards like you don't deserve her.”

"Neither do bitches like you.” I replied before another sip.

"You're here for me. If you really are, drop your weapon and kill me with your bare hands.”

Sweet.

"Okay.” I shrugged in agreement before pulling my pocket knife from my pants pocket and placing it on the island.

This should be easy.

Taking another sip from the whiskey, I stood on my feet and walked to the middle of the kitchen.

"You want a chance. Take it.” I said, staring emotionlessly at him.

He began his slow calculating walk to me but it ended even before he took his third step.

My knife was right in the middle of his chest, buried deep in his heart.

I had pulled it from my pants pocket and threw it at him with eyes still on his.

Too bad he wasn't taught like I was.

Always carry a second knife. It's always handy.

His hands flew to the knife holding it tightly as blood spattered from his mouth.

He was on his knees before I could get to him.

Getting to him, I pulled the knife he was carrying from his pants pocket and stabbed his neck with.

He fell to the ground.

They always have second plans when they tell you to man up.

Holding my knife in his chest, I twisted it, eliciting a croaked cry from him before pulling it out.

I wiped the blood on his shirt.

"When you get to hell, tell your mom I said hi.” I whispered into his ear before letting him fall to the ground.

Watching him bleed to death brought a tad of satisfaction to me.

Exiting the house, I got into my car and zoomed away.

Pulling into the parking lot, I got in and walked towards the door.

She'd be sleeping and her mom wasn't yet home.

I opened the door with my knife and got in, closing it silently to avoid alerting her.

I climbed the stairs to her room as quietly as I could.

Opening the door, I saw her splayed on the bed.

Seeing her this way, my heart tugged at me.

I got closer to her and sat on the bed.

Taking a look at her face, it was streaked with tears.

If I could go back in time, I would make sure she didn't get the video.

I should have deleted the video from her phone but I didn't.

She had the right to do whatever she wanted with it.

Not that it would work anyway.

Truth is, I regret nothing except hiding my identity.

It ended in chaos. I should have just been me.

Staring at her beautiful face, I kissed her forehead.

Standing up, I placed a single white rose I'd bought for her on her nightstand before heading out as quietly as I'd come.

She's always going to be mine. She just doesn't know it yet. I mentally concluded as I peeled out of the parking lot.
