Chapter 73

It’s not a date. Ann ran out the door and then slid to a stop, and turned around to lock it. It was a discussion while having dinner. She nodded as she pulled the key out of the door. Then why did you cut out of work a half hour early and come home and change? “Nothing wrong with wanting to look good.” Turning around, she hurried to her car. The number of dinner dates she’d been on since coming to the city years ago, she could count on one hand and have a few fingers left over. She blamed Wesley Long for that. After meeting him, she couldn’t seem to find a man who generated the appropriate hormonal responses that would lead to further dates. It annoyed her to no end for the first year. Since then, she’d just accepted that it was fate helping her keep to her plan.

Getting in the car, she closed the door and sat there. “The plan has been obliterated.” She mumbled. With a snort, she started the engine. Now, she could date freely. The only problem with that was she was only attracted to Wes, and now they had some matched magic issue going on.

She drove carefully, which was normal for her—except when she was annoyed because her friends were using magic in public parks. What were the pros and cons of this mated magic? She shrugged, logically working things through put her at ease. Yes, she had hot moments where she let emotion control her, but those were rare and generally very much needed at the time.

Since getting together with Leland, Teegan seemed very happy. She frowned; of course, that coincided with finding out about the magic inside her and that she wasn’t losing her mind. That one landed on both sides of the list.

Kat—she scoffed. There was no definitive way to categorize Kat in anything. Full speed ahead was her M.O. in all things. Sighing, she pursed her lips and forced herself to think a little deeper than that. Mitch seemed to be the perfect fit for her friend. He was a little odd, but Kat wasn’t exactly the epitome of normal, either. “Definitely a pro as far as Kat goes.” At least, she was almost certain of that assessment.

“I suppose the question is, do I want to take a chance with Mister Long.” A buzz moved through her entire body. She grinned. “Hormonal response aside, I think it would be best if I take things slow.” How it could be any slower than the last few years, she didn’t know.

When she pulled around the corner to find a parking spot, she saw the object of her prattling internal thoughts walking across the road. She sighed. How was it possible that he looked graceful and in charge at the same time? “Gorgeous genes from the old gods, most likely.” She laughed quietly and pulled into a parking spot. Turning the car off, she pulled out the key and clipped it to the handle of her bag. She hated digging around inside looking for it. Her ‘bag’ was a bottomless pit of unknown items. To reassure herself, she always thought that the heavy bag was to be prepared for anything. Grabbing it, she got out before she changed her mind. She’d never been as excited and apprehensive about having dinner as she was right on.
