Chapter 56 Two Alpha;
Chapter 56 Two Alpha;
Kael was running through the forest in his wolf body, heading toward Elly's mountain house. But as he got closer, he realized he couldn't smell Elly's scent nor feel her guardian power. He understood that she wasn't there.
The only place that came to his mind where he could find Elly was Eva's mountain house. He quickly changed direction and headed there.
Meanwhile, Joe had met with Nancy and learned that everything was fine. After that, he had returned to Elly's side. Joe got out of the car and was about to enter Eva's house when he felt the presence of an ancient wolf behind him. He knew Kael had arrived.
Without turning around, he heard Kael's growl.
"You can't enter that house, bad blood?"
There was a questioning expression on his face, but underneath it, a grin was not missing.
Joe answered with a smile.
"As a matter of fact, I managed to enter this mountain house this morning without even realizing it."
He approached Kael as he spoke.
Kael was surprised.
"Impossible. Grandmother Rose banished all the bad blood from here after that bloody night. You shouldn't be able to enter that house."
Joe laughed and moved a little closer to Kael.
"I don't carry bad blood anymore. My sister Nancy doesn't either."
Kael's face wrinkled with a questioning look. He couldn't make sense of it.
"If the bad blood has been erased from your bodies..."
Joe completed his sentence.
"That means Homay has forgiven us."
Kael asked with a skeptical look.
"In exchange for what?"
Joe remembered what he had done during the trial at the Demon Castle on the day he earned the Guardian Alpha seal. But it was too early to talk about that now. So he brushed the topic aside.
"I don't know. Maybe Homay knows that we no longer have any connection to my father."
Kael shook his head. "Whatever," he said. He had more important matters right now. He started walking inside. Joe followed behind him.
When Elly opened the door, she was surprised to see two Alphas standing there together.
"Hello, you two make a very cute couple," she said with a sarcastic tone.
Kael shot Joe a dirty look. Joe grinned with a wicked smile.
Kael grumbled and entered the house.
"Elly, we need you." He took a deep breath. What he was about to tell her troubled him.
Elly asked with concern.
"Of course, what happened? Is everyone okay? There's no problem, is there?"
Joe, curious, was leaning against the wall with his arms crossed over his chest, listening.
Kael began to explain.
"My pack, you know, has awakened."
Elly immediately nodded.
"Yes. I met that famous Asia. She has a great sense of humor."
Kael nodded.
"Yes, there are five of them. Right now, Rai, Alex, Axel, and Liam are at the waterfall grotto."
Elly listened with curiosity.
"But Liam is in bad condition. The wolf poison is about to spread through his body."
Elly's eyes widened. Having grown up as a bookworm, she had read most of the guardian books, even memorized them.
"I've never seen wolf poison in a real event before. I thought it was a legend," she said with curiosity.
Kael shook his head.
"No, it's a real curse."
Elly had already started thinking about what she could do. Joe asked with a curious look.
"What exactly is wolf poison?"
Kael grumbled as he began to explain.
"Wolf poison is when a wolf's rage begins to consume their humanity. Liam lost his brother. The pain inside him grew so much from his death that he surrendered to the darkness. Now his eyes are pitch black. Veins are spreading down from his neck. Soon, nothing will remain of him but a wild, poisonous wolf. He will bathe everything in his path in blood and won't even remember who he is."
Elly's face had turned pale.
"I don't know if we can stop him," she murmured. Her gaze was genuinely sad. Because she knew that this situation always ended with the wolf being executed.
Kael shook his head.
"No, there was a way. In my century, the Rose guardians used to draw a magical rune."
Elly had already started thinking. If such a rune existed, it might be in Grandmother Rose's ancient book. Because the guardian library had been looted years ago by Caleb's men when Joe stole the key from Elly, and what remained had been burned. Her only hope was that book.
Kael saw Elly's thoughtful state but was also aware that he needed to hurry. He couldn't allow innocent blood to be spilled, but he also didn't want to execute Liam.
"But we don't have much time. Rai and the twins are struggling to hold him in the dungeon. If he escapes, there will be a massacre in town."
Joe straightened up from where he had been leaning against the wall.
"Elly, what do we need to do?"
Elly pulled herself together with a determined look in her eyes.
"Okay, we don't have the guardian texts. But I remember reading something about wolf poison when Eva brought me Grandmother Rose's ancient book. We need to find that passage."
Kael nodded. "Alright, let's get started." Joe also looked at her with an approving gaze.
Minutes later, Elly brought down all the parchments from the attic of the mountain house along with the ancient book. Joe and Kael examined the parchments one by one while she quickly checked the pages of the book.
Joe murmured, "Um... what exactly does it look like? What are we looking for?" Kael, being able to read the ancient language, was scanning quickly with his eyes.
Elly turned to Joe and began to describe it.
"The word for wolf is Börü, and poison in the ancient language was Agı. So it might say Börü Agı. Or it could be an image of a shadow wolf. I don't know exactly." She turned back to the book.
They had been searching for a sign for minutes, and finally Joe gave up.
"I've looked through all the parchments in my hand. It's not here."
Kael hadn't found it either. His teeth were clenched, his fists tight. He let his body fall to the floor, took his reddish-brown hair in his palms, and squeezed. As if trying to find a solution, he was sifting through his past memories.
Just then, Elly's scream-like voice was heard.
"I found it!" She hugged the book to her chest and crouched down beside Joe and Kael. "Look! It says here: If this rune is carved into the wolf's body with the claw of the firstborn Börü, by the hand of a guardian, the wolf poison will be expelled."
Then Elly's brain processed what she had just said.
"Where are we going to find the claw of the firstborn Börü? And am I supposed to carve the rune with the claw of a dead wolf?"
Kael's eyes turned to Elly.
"I am the firstborn..."
Joe and Elly stared back in shock, their eyes wide.
"So," Kael asked, "who is going to remove one of my claws?"
Joe, having recovered from his shock, had his sly grin back on his face.
"I can remove it," he said with a laugh.
Kael was annoyed by Joe's malicious and opportunistic attitude, while Elly was trying to make sense of the situation.
"Don't even think about it! Sacred texts always love to use metaphorical implications! No one is cutting off anyone's hand!"
Kael looked at her with devotion in his eyes, while Joe had already sharpened his knives.
(Control your sadistic fantasies, Joe! We're not cutting off our Ancient Alpha's hand.)
