Chapter 65 - Voluptuous Past
My heart was racing so fast it felt like it would leap out of my chest. Everything happened so quickly. I didn't have time to register the movements before me. I blinked, and Blake was suddenly standing in front of me, holding back Cynthia's advances. Rocky grabbed my arm and pulled me back a little. I could tell he was ready to get me to safety if Cynthia did escape Blake's vise grasp.
Cynthia screamed and cursed at me, struggling against Blake's arms.
"You fucking bitch. You ruined everything! If it weren't for you, Blake and I would have never drifted apart. You will never have what Blake and I had. He will one day realize what a mistake he made!" Cynthia's words echoed through the small shop, hurting my ears.
Blake shoved the screaming blonde out of the shop and shut the door behind her, locking it so she couldn't come back in. Cynthia banged and pushed the door, trying to open it, but after multiple failed attempts, she yelled in frustration and stormed off. Tires screeched outside, and a white Porsche sped away, leaving behind a trail of smoke.
"What the fuck was that?" Rocky exclaimed.
Blake sighed loudly and pressed his forehead to the door he was still holding on to.
"The mistakes of my past finally taking their revenge on me," he muttered and finally turned to look at us.
The waitress was also standing next to us, her face frozen from the shock of what had happened.
Rocky cleared his throat and let go of me.
"Hey, love, how about you and I go to the back, and you can tell me all the other cool things that happen in this town." Rocky smiled at the waitress and motioned her towards the back, distracting her.
She eagerly smiled and grabbed Rocky's arm, pulling him away.
I couldn't move. My body felt paralyzed from fear. What the fuck just happened?! Did that girl actually plan on hurting me?!
Blake slowly walked over to me, and I unconsciously took a step back.
"Y… You promised no more lies or secrets." my dry throat made my voice scratchy.
"Angel," Blake reached for me, but I stopped him.
"You get one chance to explain, and I only want to hear the truth."
Blake sighed and nodded.
"Please sit down. I'll be right back" he walked away, and I slid back into the booth.
Blake came back and placed a glass of water in front of me before taking a seat opposite me.
He folded his hands on the table and looked out the window.
"I don't know if you remember, but when I told you the story about mine and Kyra's break up. I mentioned my attempts to mend my broken heart by sleeping with anything that moved. Cynthia was one of those rendezvous." Blake sighed and hung his head.
So she was a blast from his past. A gorgeous voluptuous past. My heart pinched a little as I thought back to how beautiful Cynthia was. I, in comparison, was so plain and ordinary.
I swallowed loudly; my stomach churned in anticipation. If looking at that girl made me so self-conscious, Lord knows what hearing about their relationship would do.
"Cynthia and I met through Mia. Mia is a Mana healer. She can channel the Mana of the earth and heal deeper wounds, especially once caused by silver. During one of my healing visits, I bumped into Cynthia. She was stunning and ready to do whatever I needed, whenever I needed. I found myself spiraling towards her when I couldn't be bothered to find a new conquest. She was always a phone call away, and it was convenient." Blake's cheeks went red, and he squeezed his hands tightly. Embarrassment was evident in his voice.
He sighed and carried on.
"It was easy with Cynthia since she knew about my kind. There were no strings attached, just a good fuck and walk away. Once I went into therapy, I finally got into a better headspace and stopped sleeping around. However, like every male werewolf, I still needed to release my frustration, and once again, Cynthia was available. It was a convenient arrangement until Cynthia started asking for more. She came from a highly ranked family, and it made sense, especially since I was still no closer to finding my mate. I won't lie when I say I did think about mating with Cynthia. But then, I came to Mariners Bay, and my world changed when the sexy as hell girl across the hall stole my heart." Blake finally looked up at me, giving me a tight smile.
"She meant nothing then, and she means nothing now. I broke off all contact with her the day I met you, and from that moment, you have been the only woman in." His face had sorry written all over it. The guilt was eating him up.
Blake sighed and reached out for my hands when I didn't respond, but I quickly moved it away, leaving his hand hanging in the air.
"Angel, you need to understand, my relationship with Cynthia was purely physical. Just a horny man wanting to get laid without consequences. I never had any feelings for her, and it was a relationship based on convenience," he pressed.
"Then why did you hide it from me? Is this why you've been so tense all day? Because you knew she was here and might tell me about your little past arrangement?" I was mad. He had made me a promise, and if he expected honesty from me, then I deserved honesty in return.
"When Klaus called to tell me who the witch was that cast the spell on you, I knew there was a chance we would see Cynthia. You are right, I should have come clean, and I'm sorry. I just didn't know how you would react."
"That's your excuse? You didn't know how I would react?! Really, Blake? After everything we've been through, this is the secret you think I will react badly to? Have you lost your mind? You have a crazy twin brother pretending to be you to sleep with me. I've just found out that I've got an evil magic spell that is trying to kill me from the inside. If I can deal with all that, your drop-dead gorgeous ex-girlfriend is just a little grain in my world of problems. By hiding this, you have made it a bigger problem than it should be. I would have helped you face a vexed ex-girlfriend instead of almost getting attacked by her." my voice was louder than needed, but I didn't care.
All Blake had to do was say we would bump into an ex-girlfriend while we were here, but his approach to the situation had planted a seed of suspicion in my head.
Was there more to the story than he was telling me?
"I'm sorry, Angel. I really didn't think it through and acted irrationally. I had never mentioned Cynthia before, and honestly, I didn't think we would ever see her given how things ended with her. But because I never said anything to you, I didn't want you to feel as though I was still seeing her or something." Blake squeezed his hands together and kept his head down, not meeting my eye.
"Well, congratulations. You not telling me about Cynthia makes me feel exactly that way. Is there something else you're hiding? Will another psychotic ex try to kill me in my sleep?" I demanded.
"No, Angel, no. That won't happen," Blake protested.
"I'm sure you had very good intentions. But if I remember correctly, a couple of days ago, you thought I had betrayed you and fallen pregnant, so I think I have the right to question you about this." I got up from my seat and started to pace around. My head was swimming from all the information, and my still rattled heart wasn't any help in lessening the blood flow.
"Tell me something, why did you pick me over her?! She's so breathtaking; for a second, even Rocky was swayed by her beauty. Why would you want to be with me when you have women like Cynthia at your disposal?" I ran my hands through my hair in frustration.
That's when it dawned on me, "Were all the girls from your past as stunning as Cynthia is?" I stopped pacing and looked at Blake.
Before he could answer, Rocky walked back into the cafe.
"Hey guys, I'm sorry to be interrupting, but Klaus just called. We need to get a move on" Rocky could sense the awkwardness between Blake and me.
"Give us 5 minutes, Rockz," Blake finally responded.
"No, we're ready to go. They are here to help me, and I don't want to keep them waiting." I interrupted before turning and walking out of the cafe, not waiting for a response from either man.
I could hear Rocky curse blake about something as they followed me, but my anger still had subsided enough for me to care. I walked up to the Jeep and opened the back passenger door.
"Rosy, you got the wrong door again," Rocky snickered, trying to lighten the mood.
"I think I'll sit in the back, for now, Rockz." I climbed in and shut the door behind me.
Rocky and Blake exchanged a look and got into the front seats.
"Angel, this isn't necessary. Please, come back to your seat." Blake looked over his shoulder, his eyes begging.
"It's comfortable here. Can we please go?" I insisted, looking out the window.
Blake sighed and started the car.
The drive to our destination was short. It took 10 minutes before Blake turned into a long driveway that led us up a little hill revealing a gorgeous Spanish-style bungalow. It was definitely something you would see in magazines. The architecture of the house had me mesmerized.
Blake parked in front of the house and turned off the engine. There were already three black SUV's parked in the driveway. Guess the entire Coven was here already.
Both the boys got out, and Blake walked over to open my door. He seemed tenser than before, and I didn't know if there was more to come than just a lunatic ex-girlfriend.
He put his hand out for me to take, but I brushed past him and walked over to Rocky.
"Tell me you knew nothing about all this?" I whispered, knowing Blake could still hear us.
"He may have mentioned something after I brought up Mia's hot sister in the car. But, in my defense, the news is still new to me, and I'm on your side." Rocky flashed me a big smile and patted my head.
I rolled my eyes and varied on gawking at the house.
The door suddenly opened, and a rigid Klaus stood at the doorway. He looked like he had aged a lot more since we last saw him.
"King Cooper, Luna Rosalie, I'm so glad you're here. Thank you for coming at such short notice." Klaus bowed and moved aside, motioning for us to go in.
My eyes adjusted to the lighting inside the house, and I was gobsmacked at how gorgeous it was inside. The high raised ceilings with gold painted skirtings paired with arched bay windows. Everything about the deco screamed expensive.
Klaus escorted us to what felt like the back of the house, where we entered another door that led into a massive living area.
I was so engrossed with the deco; I didn't notice everyone sitting on the couch staring at us.
Immediately, all The Coven members stood up and bowed their hands. The only person still sitting was the older lady next to Mia, who had a surprised look. The lady looked like she was in her 70's. Her curly white short hair was perfectly combed back. Her eyes widened as she watched me walk in.
"King Cooper, please have a seat" Klaus smiled and motioned towards the couch.
"She can stand." the older lady's raspy voice objected. Her eyes traveled up and down my body like she was sizing me up.
"Nana, she's the…." Mia started to explain, but the lady put her hand up and stopped her.
"I know who she is. I've known her since the day her mama placed her in my arms and begged me to make her wolf go away. If it weren't for her daddy's name, I wouldn't have done it."
"M.. my daddy's name? Do you mean Richard? Did you know both of them? How?" I was so confused. My mother knew I was a werewolf and tried to hide it. Why?!
"I said her daddy's name, not your daddy's name. Your daddy was a coward. He was pathetic. Knocking up a 16-year-old girl. Poor Theresa, that sweet soul didn't deserve a ratchet mate like him," The old lady grumbled.
I looked up at Rocky. You could see the anger flash across his face at the mention of Richard's betrayal.
"Evelyn, stop beating around the bush and come to the point. The girl is here; now tell us what we need to know to lift her suppressant. Her clock is ticking," Klaus nagged.
Evelyn slowly got up from her seat and supported her body with her crane. Her eyes never left my face.
"Tell me, girl, how is your mother?" Evelyn asked, narrowing her eyes at me.
I felt my heart pinch a little.
"Evelyn…" Blake growled, but I put my hand up, stopping him.
"She's dead. They both are. We laid them to rest almost two weeks ago." I clenched my jaws, trying to hold back my tears.
"Dead?! How?" Evelyn demanded, her face softened.
"They said it was a car accident. Richard's car collided with a truck. Richard died on the spot," Blake explained.
"Rocky is Richard and Theresa's son," Klaus pointed out, nodding towards Rocky.
"That was no accident. I'm telling you now. Them dying was no accident. If Bethany is dead, it's because someone wanted her dead." Evelyn spoke as she limped her way over to me.
"What makes you think that?" Elijah questioned. He stood at the far end of the couch.
"Because she carried the bloodline. The same bloodline that runs through this Luna's veins." Evelyn reached out and cupped my face.
"Just as beautiful as your Mumma. She went to great lengths to protect you even though she claimed you were the biggest mistake she made. We've been watching you from a distance your whole life. Once Beth met Blake, she knew you were in safe hands and asked us to back off. Although, it's my mistake that has put your life at risk."
"W… what? Have you been watching me? Why?!" I stuttered, shivering a little.
What the hell was going on?!
Blake wrapped his arm around my shoulder and squeezed me a little. I felt my anger towards him diminish slightly. I didn't want to admit it, but I needed Blake's touch. He kept me calm, and as Evelyn's words registered in my head, I sure as hell wasn't calm.
"Grandma, you're scaring her. Stop with your riddles and tell Klaus what he needs to know to save Luna Rosy's life," Mia scolded.
Evelyn dropped her hand from my face and turned towards her Granddaughter.
"My magic may save her now, but she was born with death written in her future."
A chill went down my spine. First, Richard spoke about how my existence would be my death, then Morris spoke about it. Now, Evelyn was saying it too.
What was so malignant about my existence that had people linking me to death so often?
I was beginning to question everything about my life.
It felt as though my mother had made me into a giant security safe filled with all sorts of secrets, just waiting for the right person to unlock it so I could see for myself what was inside it.
Who the hell was my mother, and why did she have so many secrets?
The biggest question was, why was my death so imminent?
