Chapter 64 - Treacherous Encounters

The car ride was gloomy and awkward. Rocky filled me in on things that had happened while Blake and I were locked up and tried to make jokes to lessen the awkwardness. As much as Blake participated in the conversation, I could tell he was tense about something.

The past few days had been so amazing, filled with love and romance. But watching Blake go from a loved-up passionate creature to a stick up his butt man was making me sad. What had happened between me waking up and having a shower that had suddenly changed Blake so much? Was it the phone call he took on the balcony? Had Klaus said something more about his findings on my suppressant spell?

There was one more reason in my mind, but it seemed silly to dwell upon. Although, Blake’s reaction was odd enough to make me question it.

Did this Cynthia have something to do with Blake’s sudden mood change?

I had never heard Blake mention her before. The only girl Blake had talked about was Kyra. Come to think about it, I had never really talked with Blake about the girls in his life. There was never a discussion about his ex-girlfriends, dates, crushes, or even casual sex partners. I never needed to ask, and I trusted him. Besides Chrissy Robins, no girl from his past had ever interrupted our life. Unlike my so-called ex that popped up everywhere, I went.

Was I overthinking this situation? Blake was the King of the East. He had to know all his people; it was his job. So it shouldn’t be a surprise to me that Blake knew Mia’s sister’s name, right? Knowing Cynthia could just be a coincidence, given that he knew Mia. So why did I jump to the conclusion that she was a blast from his past?! I trusted Blake, and it was something like that; he would have told me upfront.

I mentally facepalmed myself and rolled my eyes as I realized how stupid I sounded for even thinking about all that nonsense.

I was a typical girl jumping to silly conclusions.

“Rosy, did you hear what I said?!” Rocky shook my shoulder.

“Shit, I’m so sorry. I zoned out for a second” I felt my cheeks heat up.

“What’s wrong, Angel? Not feeling good?” Blake reached out and touched my face.

He could obviously see the redness and assumed I was feeling ill.

“No, no, I’m fine. I just had a silly thought, that’s all,” I stuttered, blushing even more.

“Oh god, please don’t go all hornier right now. I have nowhere to run and hide,” Rocky groaned from the backseat, and Blake reached over to smack his head.

Rocky cursed Blake, and the two just started bickering, making me laugh.

Their relationship was so cute and childish, it would give someone the idea that they were brothers instead or brothers by law.

“Okay, time out! Both of you,” I finally yelled.

Rocky settled back in his seat, and Blake put both hands on the steering wheel. It was odd for him not to be holding my hand, but I brushed it off.

We would soon find out whatever it was that was bothering Blake.

I looked out the car window and started to recognize the environment. We had reached Huntly. The entire town was so beautiful; it made me proud to know I was part of a family that looked after its people and their town so well.

As we drove past the hill The Cooper Mansion sat on; I admired its beauty from the outside. It was stunning from the inside and out.

My life was turning out to be just like a fairytale. The knight in shining armor, the palace, and the kingdom every girl hopes for.

I smiled at the thought of how lucky I was. Unfortunately, I had to go through a swamp to get to the happily ever after.

The vibration from Blake’s phone brought me back to reality.

“We’re on our way, Klaus. Another hour” Blake answered.

Whatever Klaus’s reply was, it made Blake growl and swear under his breath.

“Okay, we shall see you all soon” Blake hung up and tossed his phone into the cup holder.

“What happened?!” I asked, His reaction all morning were making me worry.

“Just a little situation. Don’t worry,” Blake muttered.

Rocky snickered and tried to hide his amusement with a cough.

Before I could question it, Rocky leaned forward and turned up the song playing on the radio.

My irritation was growing, and at this stage, even if the secret were funny, I would still be very annoyed.

I leaned back in my seat and crossed my arms. There better be a very good explanation for all this.

Just like Blake had said, within the hour, we were at Mt Zion. When Blake had said Mt Zion, I expected a creepy tower/castle on a mountain surrounded by black clouds and fog. That’s the kind of place witches lived in all the movies I had watched. But what I saw was very different. Mt Zion was a valley between the mountains that separated Huntly and Trimdon. The area was surrounded by beautiful greenery, and in no way was it creepy.

Blake and Rocky decided to stop at the local cafe to get something to eat before we carried on. I excused myself to use the bathroom, and the boys went to order food. Upon my return, I couldn’t find either of the boys. I picked a window booth and slid into the seat, hoping they would find me.

The cafe was small and rusty with a very homely feel.

I looked around at the pictures on display around the shop. The dates on the frames went back to the early 1900. All the stories those pictures told made me wish I could have witnessed those days.

My trip down memory lane got cut short when I noticed a couple arguing through the car window. The boy was standing at the corner of the window, hiding half his body and face. However, I could see the girl very clearly. She was a strawberry blonde with long silky hair. The sun made her skin glow like diamonds. She looked like a goddess that had walked out of a magazine cover. I could tell she had a killer figure under the denim jacket she had on, and from what I could see, the top under it clung to her like a glove.

Rocky suddenly slid into the seat opposite me and stretched his arms.

“She’s so pretty. Gosh, just looking at her is making me self-conscious. How can someone be that stunning?” I gushed, envy laced in my words.

Rocky followed my gaze and gasped at the girl I was looking at.

“Holy shit. Wow. That’s one hell of a girl.” Rocky let out a low wolf-whistle.

The waitress brought our food and drinks, placing them on the table.

“That’s Cynthia Kinkade. You won’t have to try hard if you want some of that pretty boy,” the waitress winked at Rocky.

“Yeah, I have a pretty blonde at home that would castrate me if I even think about it. Did you say Cynthia Kinkade? As in the Kinkade sisters? Mia and Cynthia?” Rocky questioned the waitress, his eyes still looking at the pretty blonde.

Wasn’t that the girl they were talking about in the car?

Cynthia and the boy were still arguing, and it looked like it was heating up even more as Cynthia threw her arms around and scrunched her face up. Her voice was getting louder, and it didn’t seem like she was winning. She grabbed the boy’s collar and yanked on it, pulling him close to her as she continued to yell at him. The boy immediately pushed her away with so much force; she stumbled a few steps back.

“The same one. They live with their Grandmother up on the hills. When Cynthia’s not jumping from one bed to another, she’s taking her clothes off for magazine covers. There is such a difference between the two sisters. I’ve just heard from the other waitress that her latest obsession just rolled into town.” the waitress whispered the last part as if it was some secret—typical small-town gossip.

“Who’s her latest obsession? Brad Pitt?” Rocky laughed, turning towards his food.

I laughed and picked up my coffee. I was starving.

“No. It’s the famous billionaire Blake Cooper. He’s the one she’s arguing with out there.” the waitress snickered.

I choked on my coffee as the waitress’s words registered into my head. I coughed out the liquid I had drunk as the waitress tapped my back, trying to help me recover.

“You okay?” Rocky gulped.

I nodded and looked out the window simultaneously as the boy Cynthia was arguing with and stepped out from behind the window corner.

The waitress was right. It was Blake. How was he her latest obsession? Blake had been with me for months; there must be some confusion unless I was right about my earlier assumption. Was she a blast from his past?

“Rocky,” I croaked.

Rocky nodded; his face had guilt written all over it.

“How does Blake know Cynthia?” I asked, looking at my brother for the truth.

“Umm... I don’t think it’s my place to tell you anything, Rosy. Maybe ask Blake when he comes in” Rocky shifted uncomfortably in his seat and looked over his shoulder towards the quarreling pair.

“You two know Blake Cooper?” the waitress squeaked.

“He’s my fiance!” I flashed her my ring, earning a gasp from her.

There was a loud bang outside. Cynthia shoved Blake, making him hit his back against the window, cracking the window.

I quickly stood up and rushed towards them, but Rocky grabbed my arm, stopping me.

My action had caught Cynthia’s attention. She stared at me, her eyes traveling up and down my body. Finally, she curled her lips in disgust before turning and yelling at Blake about something, pointing her well-manicured nails towards me.

Blake looked over his shoulder, and the blood in his face drained when he realized I was standing there.

What the fuck was going on?! How well did Blake know Cynthia for her to act like that towards the King of the East?

Cynthia stomped her feet and made a beeline for the cafe door. She yanked open the door and stormed in.

“You bitch!” she screamed as she charged towards me.
