CHAPTER 26
BLAIR
I stumbled back a step once he let me go and shot him a glare, but that only made him chuckle.
I hate how Darius makes everything about me a joke. He's never serious with me and takes everything I say for granted. One minute I’m saying something important, and he’s trying to flirt with me.
I swallowed hard, my eyes darting everywhere but towards the staircase where Seraphina was coming from.
But Darius didn’t care; he took a few steps forward. “I’m going to the campaign hall. I’m quite late because we were waiting for you.”
“Let’s go together,” he added.
My eyes flicked to Seraphina, who was almost near. “No,” I told him. “Seraphina is almost here; you can go with your wife.”
Darius didn’t look towards the staircase; he just let out an irritated hiss and then walked off, leaving me stunned.
I blinked rapidly, trying to understand why he did that. I know couples have issues, but even if they did, making it so obvious isn’t the way forward if they really want to win this election.
The moment everyone knows there’s no peace in their family or between them, they won’t vote them in.
Well, I wouldn’t vote for a candidate from an unhappy home.
My eyes trailed down the hallway, and Darius was nowhere to be found. He was seriously gone without his wife.
The next second, Seraphina walked down. “Oh my goodness!” she exclaimed. “Blair Knowles…”
Before I could process it, she rushed towards me, her heels echoing through the hall.
In the next minute, before I could realize what was happening, she had pulled me into a hug, wrapping her arms tightly around me.
For a fleeting second, I froze. I didn’t hug her back; my brain was still trying to process it.
We were never friends, so the tight hug felt quite uncalled for.
Her perfume hit me first—sweet, expensive, overwhelming, just as a Luna’s should be. Her embrace was warm, too warm, squeezing the air right out of my lungs.
“Seraphina?” I muttered, still in shock. The last time we’d been in the same room, she could barely look me in the eye, and now she was hugging me.
“Oh my goodness, Blair!” she gushed, pulling back just enough to beam at me. “You have no idea how happy I am to finally meet you back here. This house feels different already with you inside of it.”
I blinked, confused. “D-different?”
This was new to me. Honestly, Seraphina and I weren’t really friends, but then again, we weren’t explicitly enemies.
Though back in school, she had spread some gossip and slanderous news about me.
Not that I care; I know the bitches who don’t mess with me.
“I kept asking my husband when you were coming back,” she said, brushing an invisible strand of hair from my shoulder. “It’s just so good to have your acquaintance.”
I almost laughed at that—almost. Darius could barely look at me without turning it into a joke, and now she was saying that?
Before I could respond, she hooked her arm through mine and started walking, practically dragging me down the hallway.
“Come on, let’s take a walk. Let’s catch up on our school days,” she urged insistently.
“Seraphina,” I suddenly stopped moving. “I just got—”
“Don’t worry about that,” she cut me off warmly. “They’ll take your bags inside. You do not have to worry about that.”
“You need to stretch those legs after traveling,” she playfully added.
For the next couple of minutes, we walked in the garden, with Seraphina not flicking her gaze from me for even a moment.
“So, what do you think, Blair?” she started. “I was telling my husband that we should wear matching designers for all of our interviews together. We could pick one of the international designers and let them style us.”
“What do you think about that?” She stopped and turned to face me. “Don’t you think it’s fantastic?
We’d be seen as the most fashionable.”
I almost puked. And honestly, it’s not because of what she was saying; it’s just the pure enthusiasm in being stupid.
The last thing anyone should think of right now is the outfit or trying to get a fashion deal just to appear on cameras.
Sounds to me like misplaced priorities. For Seraphina, priorities are really messed up.
I forced a smile. “We could talk about that later on; I have a campaign to run right now, and you should be there. We should be in that hall right now and not here.”
“Right?” She gave me that wide grin before we both turned and started to walk down the hall side by side.
In a couple of minutes, we were down there. Seraphina quietly left to take a seat while I moved to the podium where Darius and his beta were.
