Chapter 17 She owns me

Chapter 17 She owns me
CHAPTER 17
DARIUS POINT OF VIEW.
I blinked hard, looking at her. For the first time in a long time, I didn't have any words to say.

“Can you give me that, Darius?” she asked again, her tone rising this time, but I only swallowed hard. For the first time in a long time, I listened to someone.

Her words hit me like blows, not because of anger. I just stared at her and didn't speak. I couldn't.

“Can you give me that, Darius?” she asked again.

I just stood there. For a second, I couldn't even feel my body. I could only hear the sound of her voice echoing in my head.

Her tone had changed; the tremor was gone. The same question that started as a whisper now hit me like a command.

I blinked rapidly. My throat felt dry. I wanted to answer her,I wanted to tell her I’d do anything and everything for her, but the words just wouldn’t come out.

Suddenly, a low, painful chuckle slipped from her lips. “I thought as much,” she said, shaking her head, a small, painful stretch of a smile tugging at the corners of her lips. “Yes, I thought as much. You can't give me that.”

With that, she turned immediately and started to walk toward the door. I knew how short-tempered she was. If I let her move one more step, she would open that door and walk away. And once she did, I felt like she'd be gone forever.

I had watched her walk out a door before, six years ago. I wasn't willing to do that again. I would never do that again, even if a gun were pointed to my head.

Something in me panicked—a familiar feeling I had felt six years ago.

Before I even realized it, the words escaped my lips.

“How do I do that, Blair?” My words forced her to halt, and she stopped mid-stride.

“Blair…” My tone softened, almost pleading now. “Tell me how to do that. Tell me what I have to do to give you what you’re asking for. If that's what gets you to me, then I will do that.”

She paused and didn't say a word. Moments later, she turned slowly, and our eyes met, sending a jolt of pain through my heart.

The look in her eyes… it’s not anger, pride, or anything like that. It’s exhaustion.

Her lashes were wet; she was fighting back tears, and I hoped she’d just let them roll down so I could hug her and tell her it’s fine.

With me, it’ll always be fine. For a fleeting moment, I saw the pain in her eyes again—the betrayal of Dominus. She was carrying all those burdens and acting like she was okay. I knew Blair too well.

If only she’d let me burn this whole shit to the ground and start a new life with her.

I stepped forward. “You want revenge?” Her eyes flicked to me, glistening with tears, and her lips trembled. “I will help you with revenge, Blair. You’ll get your fair share of it.”

She finally inhaled deeply, then slowly started to walk back toward me. “Then you need to listen to me carefully, Darius.”

I did. I always do when she talks like that. I wondered why she still needed to tell me that.

“To make it right,” she said, “you have to win. You have to become the Alpha President. You have to stay with Seraphina and win. That’s step one.”

Her hand brushed the front of my suit, not tenderly, but like she was emphasizing a point. “You want me? Then become the man you promised you’d be. Be the Alpha you told the world you were going to be.”

I held her gaze, listening attentively, that’s my favorite chore to do.

“That’s how you get me, Darius,” she whispered. “Not by kissing me. Not by calling me home. By leading. By taking power and using it right. By helping me get that divorce, and I’ll run your campaign. We'll win this together. I get my revenge, and you achieve your dreams.”

“And…?”

She glanced at me, arching a brow. “And what?”

“And I have you all to myself and can stay with you forever. We’ll build a family with beautiful kids.”

She rolled her eyes and let out a low chuckle. Something about the mention of kids didn’t sit right with her, though I couldn’t quite explain it. The expression on her face made it clear she just didn’t accept it.

For a few minutes, she didn’t say anything, and I just stood there watching her walk over to the campaign board.

Then she finally turned to me with a soft smile. “Fine, Darius. Deal. Become the Alpha President, and I’m yours.”

The longest sigh of relief escaped my lips, and my mouth stretched into a wide grin.

“So… what’s next now?”

“First, fire Chloe. And secondly, put me on a plane back to the Nightshade pack. I have some things to tidy up, then I’ll be back. And when I’m back, I hope not to see Chloe around anymore.”
