Chapter 85- Battle With the Alpha’s

Derrick’s POV

My wolves that were present for the ceremony are quick to respond to the sudden threat from the incoming wolves. With a mighty howl directed towards the full moon, the pack members spread out before me rush towards the wolves, shifting into their wolf forms as they ran. The feral sounds of wolves crashing together fills the serenity of the night, sending all creatures in the area to run off or go quiet.

“I tried to handle this peacefully-” I cut off Alpha Leo’s words with a savage growl, allowing Hunter to push towards the surface in preparation for the quick change that I can feel coming soon.

“You will never have her.” He growls out before exploding from my body like a bullet and launching from the stage and landing on top of him. Within seconds Alpha Leos head was detached from his body, his warm blood covering me with its stickiness and awakening the beast inside of me that I usually keep locked away.

I turn my eyes in the remaining two Alpha’s direction where they stand in their spot looking shocked at what has just happened before their eyes. Neither of them move a muscle until I take a step in their direction. Malcom runs off into the crowd of fighting wolves, running away from the impending death that is coming his way.

But to my surprise, Alpha Abigail stands her ground, her lips spreading to reveal the sharepend teeth inside of her mouth. “You killed the love of my life.” She spits out, confirming my suspicions earlier about there being more between the two of them. “I will make you pay.” Her wolf bursts from her body in seconds, leaving shredded clothing lying on the ground around her.

I have never seen Alpha Abigail’s wolf in our limited dealings with each other, but I must say that the color and size of her wolf is impressive, especially for being a female Alpha. The gray colored wolf lowers her head, her paws moving to brush against the earth in front of her as she studies me, looking for an opening.

Hunter braces our body, readying for the attack that we know is coming any moment now, and just like that the female wolf leaps through the air, her claws swiping at our face, but missing when we dodge her attack easily.

Before I can launch a counterattack, the sight of a massive white wolf flies past my face, snarling at the smaller wolf and latching its teeth along the base of her neck, tackling her to the ground without any resistance. I lift my wolf’s head up from its lowered position, my eyes trained on my fierce mate that has taken down a strong Alpha with ease.

Pride swells in my chest as I watch her dig her teeth in further to the wolf’s neck, forcing her to submit to her demands. Alpha Abigail whimpers in defeat, turning her head the best that she can to show that she submits herself to my fierce Queen.

Salara releases her from her grasp, giving her one final warning growl before returning to my side and rubbing her snout along beneath my chin. She leaves her head under my chin, staring at the shaking, and bloody, female wolf cowering before us.

Wolves howl in the distance, causing Alpha Abigail’s ears to perk up and her head to move from us to something in the distance behind us. Before we can react to what is happening, a group of ten wolves rushes in our direction, launching themselves towards me and my mate as the cowering Alpha takes a couple of steps back.

One of the wolves moves to her side, licking away the blood coating her fur, indicating that he must be her mate and the one that she has cheated on. Not having time to focus on their complicated relationship when I have nine other wolves surrounding me and my snarling mate, I return my attention back to the fight around us and let out a warning growl.

The presence of the one Alpha that clearly didn’t come here to fight soon appears at my back, and I don’t know why, but Hunter is not at all phased by the old man coming up behind us. He positions himself on the other side of Salara and runs his wrinkled hands through her bloodied white fur.

Salara shifts her head, indicating that the old man should go back and take cover, but Alpha Raymond shakes his head, giving her a sad expression. “Till death do us part, my love.” Salara lets out a small whimper as the man moves away from her, his eyes fixed on the wolves still surrounding us as he shifts into a massive pitch black wolf that is enchanting to look at.

I have heard tales of the shadow wolf that lived among the Mountain pack, but never did I realize that the mentioned wolf was none other than the old Alpha himself. The power that radiates off of the old man is enough to give me chills, irritating Hunter enough to make him snap at the wolves in front of us in anger.

Two wolves from the right step forward in an attempt to catch the old man as he was mid-shift, but Salara steps in front of him, snarling out in warning as she moves from my side to protect him. Jealousy surges in my chest, making me unable to hold in the rising storm that has been brewing in my soul.

I launch forward towards the wolves, snapping my jaws at anything I can get my teeth into and leaving one of the wolves dead on impact. Four of the eight remaining wolves launch themselves in my direction and I smack them away from me one by one, sending them flying into the stage and the poles of the gazebo.

Wood splinters from the wolves making impact with the gazebo, resulting in the cracked wood to no longer be able to hold itself up. The beautiful wooden gazebo comes crashing down on top of us, trapping two of the wolves beneath the debris while the rest jump back to avoid being hit.

A snarling sound from my back has me turning my head away from the destruction just in time to catch Salara snap the neck of a wolf that thought they could get the upper hand against me by sneak attacking from behind.

She nods her head in my direction before running off after another wolf that thought they could get away from us. I watch in aww as she tackles the wolf to the ground, easily snapping his neck with her powerful jaws before jumping off and looking around for her next victim.

‘Leigh is almost as blood thirsty as you Hunter.’ I tease my wolf and he grunts in agreement before we return our attention back to the mated pair that are sitting and looking around in stunned silence.

We move to go in their direction, but stop when we hear the heartwrenching howl coming from our mate. We quickly turn to look in her direction, finding her laying across the massive black wolf with her head turned towards the moon as she howls in agony. Howls reverberate all around us from our pack members who are feeling the pain of their Luna as if it were their own.

Hunter moves our legs in her direction, but stop instantly when Salara suddenly lifts her head to the wolves that remain, a murderous glint shining in her eyes against the moon light. She lifts herself from her lying position and moves in slow motion towards the seven wolves that I can see left alive.

Without warning, Salara launches herself through the air, slashing her claws against the throats of every wolf standing around us. When there is no one left standing besides the mated pair who are cowering, and whimpering in the same spot that I last saw them, she stalks her way over there, her body movements looking menacing even to me.

“You killed my mate.” The words that come out of Leigh’s mouth stop us in our tracks. The pieces finally fall into place on why the old man reacted the way that he did towards a woman he has never met, and why he would risk his life for her in the end. Though the words cut deep into my heart, I sit back silently and allow her to get her retribution.

Once she has finished off the remaining two wolves, she throws her head back in the air and lets out a howl, indicating that the Alpha’s are dead and the battle has been one. Echoing howls come from all directions, answering the call of their Luna as the wolves left alive surrender the battle.

The battle is over and our Luna is safe.
