Chapter131
The next morning, I woke up with a headache. I definitely had not slept well last night. I went and checked on Jeremiah and then went to the bathroom to wash up.
Then I washed his face again. I sat on the bed next to him and started talking to him again like I had done yesterday. I didn't know if he could hear me, but I just wanted to talk to him. I knew that miracles would not happen and that it was not a drama, but I still hoped that he would wake up soon.
At noon, I texted Tiffany and told her I was leaving for the shopping center in half an hour. She read my message but didn't respond to me. I didn't know if she would show up, but I went there anyway.
When I arrived at Starbucks, she was already there. She had ordered two cups of latte, one of which was obviously for me.
"Here's a coffee for you." She said carelessly. Why was she acting so casually friendly?
I sat down and gave her a strange look.
"Don't get me wrong. I have no intention of being your friend, but I am tired of revenge, just like you. I have been living in jealousy for too long and I think it's time to stop." She said.
I took a sip of my coffee, "Thank you for the coffee. I don't want to be your friend either. So, what do you want to tell me about Jeremiah?" I asked, "Wait, first tell me how you have hurt Jeremiah." I added hurriedly.
Tiffany looked out at the people walking by and rested her chin on one of her hands, "I got jealous, Iris. I loved him so much, but you were the only one he cared about. That drove me crazy with jealousy. Do you know he was even willing to pay my family millions of dollars so that he could get rid of me? Do you know what it's like to be rejected by the man you love so much?"
I did not say anything and only drank my coffee in silence.
"Then, one day, I met my relative, Sands, Nicklaus to be precise. The two families of ours have never been close, but Nicklaus and I are still on good terms with each other. I told him I wanted to harm Jeremiah, but he didn't agree." She said.
I thought Nicklaus would have helped Tiffany, but he had not.
"I knew Nicklaus would not dare to hit Jeremiah, who was much stronger than him. So, I lied to Niklaus. I told him that Jeremiah had paid some men to hurt me and that I needed the best bodyguards to protect me. Nicklaus believed what I said and sent his strongest men to me. Then I paid those men to hurt Jeremiah," Tiffany sighed.
"How did they hurt him?" I asked, my blood boiling.
"They waited until he was alone in his office before breaking in. Even Jeremiah's guards could do nothing to stop my men because they were so much bigger and taller. It was a fight against 5 big guys. Jeremiah took on 5 of my guys... One of them hit him so hard in the back of his head that he immediately passed out." Tiffany explained, and I could not see any guilt or remorse in her eyes.
"Why did you ask the five big guys to attack the man you love so much?!" I almost shouted.
"Because he hurt me! I have always been the princess of my family and men have always been around me, begging for my attention, but why has Jeremiah never even glanced at me? He hurt me by using money to get rid of me and even by threatening me that my family would go bankrupt if I ever hurt you again. Do you know how much it hurts to hear that from the man you love?!" Tiffany shouted.
People around us started to stare at us, but we didn't care at all.
"That was why you decided to hurt him instead of hurting me, right? Since he threatened to put you out of business if you hurt me, you turned to him?" I asked, shaking my head skeptically.
"Yes! I wanted to make him pay for what he had done to me." Tiffany said with tears in her eyes.
"Tiffany, do you know that I have been through worse things than you? You were just threatened and humiliated with money by him, but do you know what I have been through?" I asked.
Tiffany was the daughter of a powerful family, and sure, she would not accept it if someone treated her like that, but that was nothing compared to what I had gone through!
"What worse thing could you have gone through than mine?!" Tiffany asked, tears rolling down her cheeks.
In any case, we were both women who had been hurt by the men we had loved. She, Jeremiah, and I, Leo.
"Did you know that Jeremiah has raped me? He has abused me physically, mentally, and verbally. He called me a whore, a slut, an asshole, a bitch, and a piece of shit." I said in a soft voice. I saw Tiffany's eyes widen in shock.
"No way."
"I am telling the truth. But that has happened when we have still hated each other. However, he fell in love with me, and no matter how much he hated me, I was able to turn my hatred for him into something good. You see, I have once been like you. I tried to take revenge on him, but I failed." I said.
"But how could he abuse you when he loved you so much?" Tiffany asked in shock.
"Because I know he could not control his anger very well. For me, personally, I think he really needs to look into therapy for anger management. But you see, I have obviously been through more than you have! Honestly, in case you didn't know this, the reason he hated me so much was that my mother was his father's mistress, which made me Leo and Jeremiah's stepsister." I explained, shaking my head.
"I knew it. I have known it for a long time." Tiffany admitted.
"So, how could you hurt him like that? You know that what he did to you was actually the least he could do?" I asked, raising my voice.
"I don't know... I was so jealous. I was hurt. But I still don't regret having done it. I don't ever want to see his face again." Tiffany said as she stood up, preparing to leave.
I pulled her by the wrist and told her to sit down. I had not finished yet, "Are you going to plead guilty to attempted murder?"
"Are you crazy? No!" Tiffany scoffed.
"Then you leave me no choice!" I said as I glared at her.
"What are you going to do? Sue me? With what? Don't you know how rich and powerful my family is? Do you think you can win the case if you sue me?" Tiffany rolled her eyes.
I sighed and finished my coffee. I knew that even if I didn't do anything, Jeremiah would take action on his own when he woke up. So, I said, "Okay, bye, Tiffany. Don't ever show your face to me again."
Tiffany snorted and giggled, "What makes you think I want to see your face?" With that, she left the shopping mall.
I sighed again and stood up. Then I left and went back to the hospital. I sat next to Jeremiah again, staring at him and talking to him as if he could hear me.
I lost a lot of weight in the following month because I lost my appetite for food. All I did every day was talking to Jeremiah, cleaning him up, crying next to him, and wishing he would wake up. Leo and Lizzy took turns coming to visit, so did even Lexi.
When they came to visit him, they did not say anything bad to me but just nodded and smiled politely... I figured they must have moved on and gotten over their hatred of me.
