Chapter 192
Chapter 192
Freya's POV
I stood in front of the floor-length mirror in Silver Moon Manor's master bedroom, studying my reflection. The traditional Luna ceremonial gown cascaded down my body like liquid moonlight, the silver-white silk adorned with tiny moonstones I had crafted myself, each one catching the light and shimmering with my every breath. Ember stirred within me, quiet but expectant, sensing the importance of today.
"Are you ready?" Ivy stood behind me, her eyes warm and glowing in the room's soft lighting.
"I don't know," I answered softly, my fingers unconsciously tracing the intricate silver belt at my waist. I had crafted it specifically for today, engraved with ancient symbols of the Moonshade Pack and both our names – Ethan's and mine. "This all feels so... unreal."
Four years ago, I married Ethan as part of a transaction: he got the mate he needed to secure his Alpha position, and I got the funds needed to treat my mother. That ceremony had been cold and empty, merely a formality. But today's Luna ceremony meant something different – a true union of souls, the eternal binding of an Alpha and his Luna.
"The war ended only two weeks ago," I said, gazing out the window where Silver Moon Territory looked peaceful and secure in the twilight, making it hard to imagine that not long ago, it had echoed with battle howls. "Do you think the timing is right for a ceremony?"
"It's precisely because we've been through war," Ivy moved beside me, adjusting the silver ornaments in my hair, "that the pack needs this ceremony to heal and unite." Her eyes flashed with mischief. "Besides, you and Ethan haven't been in any kind of contract relationship for a while now, have you?"
My cheeks warmed slightly. She was right. The fear of death, of almost losing each other, had stripped away any pretense between us. Our souls were already deeply connected – today merely acknowledged that bond before the entire pack.
A gentle knock interrupted my thoughts. The door opened to reveal my mother, Bella, her eyes glistening with tears as she took me in.
"Oh, Freya," she said softly, entering the room, "you look beautiful."
Since she'd awakened from her coma, each day with her had been a gift. Seeing her healthy and strong brought a wave of contentment washing over me. "Thank you, Mom."
Bella reached into her pocket and pulled out a small silver box. Opening it revealed a pair of moonstones earrings that glowed with a soft blue light. "These were passed to me by my mother on my wedding day, and now they're yours."
As she helped me put them on, I couldn't help but think of the Carter family traditions. Though we weren't pureblooded werewolves, our silversmith craftsmanship and traditions were just as precious. These earrings symbolized my dual identity – both as Luna of the Alpha and as an heir to the silversmith legacy.
"Come," my mother said softly, "they're waiting for you."
---
The ceremonial grounds in Silver Moon Forest were illuminated by countless silver lanterns, creating a pathway toward an ancient oak. Pack members stood on either side, their eyes gleaming in the twilight. As I stepped onto the path strewn with silver leaves, a soft murmur passed through the crowd.
At the end of the path stood Ethan. Even after two weeks of recovery, he still bore the scars of his battle with Kassak, but he stood tall and confident, his black ceremonial robes creating a stark contrast to my silver-white. When our eyes met, the warmth that flowed through our mate bond almost took my breath away.
Beside him, the Elder stood ready to officiate, his silver hair gleaming in the moonlight. But my most cherished surprise was seeing Lyra standing nearby, holding Theo in her arms. My son was dressed in a tiny silver-white ceremonial outfit, watching everything with curious eyes. This child, once taken from me, was now here to witness this sacred moment.
My steps were light, each one bringing me closer to Ethan, closer to a destiny I once couldn't have imagined. When I reached him, he extended his hand, and I placed mine in his palm.
"Are you ready, my Luna?" he asked softly, his voice carrying a tenderness I'd never heard before.
"I am ready, my Alpha," I answered, my voice steadier than I'd expected.
The Elder began reciting the ancient werewolf vows, but I barely heard his words. My entire focus was on Ethan's eyes, which sparkled with love and promise. When the Elder asked if I accepted Ethan as my mate, my answer came without hesitation. "I do."
Then came the most sacred part—the marking ceremony. Before all pack members, Ethan leaned forward, his lips touching the side of my neck. I felt a gentle pressure, then a profound sense of completion, as if something that had been missing finally settled into place. Ember purred with satisfaction within me, acknowledging the mark.
Now it was my turn. I leaned forward, kissing the mark I had left on Ethan's neck. As my lips touched his skin, a powerful energy surged through our bond, binding our souls tightly together. I could feel every emotion of his, his strength, his vulnerability, and his boundless love for me.
"Under the witness of the moon, with the blessing of the pack," the Elder announced, "Ethan Blackwood and Freya Hayes are now truly Alpha and Luna, forever joined in soul."
Cheers erupted from the crowd, pack members shifting into their wolf forms, silver and black wolves running in celebration under the moonlight. Ethan took my hand, pulling me into his embrace.
"My Luna," he whispered against my ear, "no longer a contract, no longer a deal, but destiny."
I smiled up at him, my heart full of anticipation for our future. "Yes, my Alpha, it was destiny that brought us together."
I turned toward Lyra, who handed Theo to me. As I held my son, he reached out curiously to touch my earrings, giggling. In the moonlight, the three of us stood together—Alpha, Luna, and their heir—surrounded by our loyal pack.
Lydia stood among the crowd, her usually tough warrior face softened with emotion, unshed tears glistening in her eyes. She watched the ceremony with complete attention, as if seeing possibilities for herself in this sacred moment. Beside her, Noah wasn't watching our ceremony at all – his eyes were fixed on Lydia's profile, his gaze tender and adoring. When Lydia unconsciously leaned toward him, Noah's arm slipped gently around her waist.
Not far away, I saw Riley standing with Lewis from the Pine Shadow Pack, their hands tightly clasped. Her eyes reflected complex emotions: the pain of losing her father, the aftermath of breaking a mate bond, and genuine well-wishes for Ethan and me. With Lewis's gentle support, she seemed to have found new strength. I smiled at her, a silent thank you and invitation.
In this moment, I was no longer the Freya who had signed a contract for her mother's medical bills, nor was I Rose Winters, the silversmith hiding behind a pseudonym. I was Freya Blackwood, Luna of the Moonshade Pack, Ethan's mate, and Theo's mother.
THE END.
