Chapter 287 The Best Kind of News
YELENA
"Guys," Marie started, suddenly calling everyone's attention to her. She looked around the table, a mischievous glint in her eyes, and continued, "Can you believe some of the things my brother did back when he was searching for Yelena?"
A ripple of excitement went through the group. Everyone was suddenly very interested, leaning in to hear the secret.
"What is it? Tell us," Tristan’s father asked, chuckling.
Tristan immediately looked embarrassed. He gave Marie a sharp, warning look, but she didn’t look like someone who was planning on backing down. She looked like she was just getting started.
"One day, I caught him talking to himself," Marie said, lowering her voice for dramatic effect. "I had to move closer to hear what he was saying, and I quote: "I’m sorry, Yelena. I never knew you were someone I needed and wanted all this time. Please, where are you? I promise I will treat you right."
Marie perfectly mimicked Tristan’s deep, desperate tone, and the entire table erupted in laughter.
I felt my cheeks burning with a deep blush, and Tristan only leaned backward in his chair, smiling through his embarrassment.
"I didn't know she was around at the time," he muttered, trying to defend his name, though it clearly did nothing to help his case.
"And the worst part?" Marie wasn't stopping. She looked around at the group, and I realized I was just as curious as everyone else.
"Yes, yes, please, tell us," Nyra said, signaling to me that it was finally time for her to have her own moment.
I smiled and nodded at Nyra, feeling a spark of anticipation.
While we waited for Marie to deliver the punchline, the air felt light and full of love.
"He stood there and knelt down, begging his phone," Marie said, half-laughing, clearly enjoying every second of teasing her brother. "He was talking to it as if Yelena herself would just climb out of the screen and appear right in front of him."
Some people howled with laughter, Jackson was practically wiping tears from his eyes while others just smiled warmly at the memory.
At this point, even Alpha Loren seemed to soften. He smiled, a genuine, rare expression since he had arrived. He leaned toward Vivianne, whispering something in her ear, but she immediately shot back with a cold, pissed glare that made him retreat and take a long sip of his wine instead.
I decided to look away from them, turning my focus back to my dear friend. Nyra was ready to reveal something big.
Nyra smiled, her hands trembling just a little as she brought out a small box from beneath the table. "Very well then," she started. Her voice wavered with emotion. "Since everyone is here, I want to use this moment to profess my love to my darling mate."
She slid the box across the table toward Jackson. He looked surprised, his eyebrows shooting up.
Everyone became dead silent, hanging on every word.
Jackson took the box, looking at it with a confused expression before looking back at Nyra. "Are you proposing to me?" he asked, and a few of us giggled at his nervousness.
"Does that look like a ring box to you?" Nyra teased, her eyes shining. "Just open it. You’ll find your answers in there."
Jackson nodded, his hands moving carefully. He started pulling at the decorative wraps.
We were all leaning in, eager to see what kind of surprise she had hidden away.
When he finally peeled away the last piece of paper and opened the container, there was no ring inside. Instead, a small plastic object fell onto the table.
It was a pregnancy test.
"Oh my goodness," Jackson said. He stared at it for a long, quiet second, his brain trying to process what he was seeing, until he finally grabbed the test and saw the clear results for himself.
He jumped up from his chair, his chair scraping loudly against the floor. "Yes! My baby is pregnant!"
"Aww!" everyone cheered in unison, their voices echoing in the garden.
Jackson didn't wait; he grabbed Nyra and pulled her into a crushing, happy hug. Nyra began to cry, her eyes full of happy tears, and I couldn't help but feel a swell of emotion in my own chest. I was so incredibly happy for her.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you," Jackson kept repeating, burying his face in her neck.
I felt Tristan’s hand squeeze mine softly under the table. I looked up at him and smiled; he didn't need to say a word. He was indirectly thanking me for our beautiful family. He lifted our joined hands and pressed a lingering kiss to my knuckles once again.
"I’m so happy for them," he whispered, his eyes filled with genuine joy.
"Me too," I said, leaning my head against his shoulder, feeling like the luckiest woman in the world.
