Raelyn’s pov
It took a few knocks on Willow’s door before she finally opened. She was wearing fluffy socks, pajama pants with a rainbow pattern, and a large shirt from another rock band.
“What’s up?” She said as she wiped the sleep from her eyes.
“Torin sent us to get you. We need to go.” I said as calmly as possible.
Willow ignored my words, instead looking at my neck. “So you’re marked….” She said expectantly.
“We can discuss it in the car, Willow.” Mora ordered.
“Young lady, you do not get to order me around,” Willow warned. It was funny to see someone call Mora "young lady," but to Willow everyone was young, I guess.
I tried to diffuse the situation, “We don’t have much time. There’s another alpha ready to take over Torin’s pack and, -“
“And he’s scared this alpha won’t need my services and will try to get rid of me?” Willow filled in the rest of the answer.
“Your guess is as good as mine. I just feel very nervous about the whole thing, and if Torin says we have to go, I’m going.” I told her truthfully. I wasn’t sure why we needed to get Willow, but if Torin says we do, I trust him.
“Give me five minutes.”
“Two,” Mora said, getting back into the driver’s seat.
Willow rolled her eyes but still managed to gather everything she needed in two minutes. She even got dressed.
Maybe she used magic. Can you use a spell to get dressed?
“Okay, first things first. How was it?” she said, wiggling her eyebrows as soon as she took her seat next to me.
“How was what?”
“You know… the marking, the sex, the breaking of the spell, the whole thing!”
Mora growled lowly as she stepped on the gas. “Where to?”
“North,” I said, feeling a push from Siyo. For a second it felt like she took over my body, but that’s not possible, right?
Siyo was silent in my head. It was strange to notice she wasn’t there. I had gone my whole life without hearing an extra voice, yet now it felt too quiet for some reason. My thoughts seemed too loud.
Willow sat beside me. “So? So? Tell me, Raelyn. You can’t keep me on the edge of my seat forever.” I don’t know why she didn’t seem worried. We came to her house early in the morning to drag her away from her home. A home she might not be able to come back to.
We have no plan, no clue what we’re doing. Other than heading north, I guess.
I took a deep breath, “after Torin marked me, I blacked out. And I saw my grandma.”
“Cerce came to you? How was she?”
I smiled thinking of my grandma, “she was just as she had always been. She said she was with the Moon Goddess, waiting for this moment, and soon she would become part of the earth magic.”
“That’s nice, but what did she say about you? Did she explain why she placed the spell or what you are?” Willow was too eager to know everything, and I wasn’t sure how much to tell her.
“She said I am a werewolf. She said I need to mark Torin, and I need to head home. Wherever that is.”
“Cryptic, but okay. I already knew you were special. But I kind of hoped you were a witch.” Willow replied and took my hand in hers. “Oh, the magic is truly gone.” She squinted her eyes, “you’re really powerful, aren’t you?”
I nodded without thinking.
“Did you get a good look at everything I gathered about Cerce?” Willow asked, and I was glad she didn’t ask any further about me being special or what Grandma said to me.
It felt too private to share everything.
“Yes,” I replied, “but how will that help me go home?”
“Before she came to your small town, she did some work for another pack. Do you remember?”
I nodded my head. I had memorized everything about my grandma. “The Moon Valley pack.”
Enya turned her head our way, “I’ve heard about that pack, right?”
“It’s near some human town called Clinton.” Willow replied.
Clinton… why did that seem familiar? I was pretty sure it wasn’t just because of the former president. I grabbed the bag I brought with a few supplies from the campsite and the folder about my parents.
I took the folder and looked at my birth certificate.
I was right. I was born in Clinton.
So what happened? I had no clue about how my parents died or where they came from. I knew nothing, and I wasn’t sure if Colton would still be able to help us.
I guess the best way to get answers was to go back to where I was born.
“Their alpha-heir vanished, Enya. That’s why you’ve heard of them. His brother took over instead.” Mora said. “Your dad was really intrigued by it all. He met the alpha heir when they were kids, during a werewolf summit. He was a few years older than your dad. And he disappeared without a trace.”
Enya spoke before I could, “well, let’s head there then. We need to go somewhere. I’ll mindlink Torin.”
"Roadtrip!" Willow exclaimed excitedly.
I wish I could speak to my boyfriend. I wish he were here, but I had to trust he was doing alright.
Torin deserved none of this, and while I knew he would rather have a life with me at his pack, I kind of felt excited to find out more about my parents. To find out more about my grandma’s life before she took care of me.
This was my chance to get some answers and to find out more about myself.
For years, I hadn’t felt like myself. Dylan had turned me into someone else, and I wasn’t even sure what the real me was. But now that I had Torin, I felt more like myself every day.
And maybe if I got some answers about where I come from, it would help me figure out who I am.
Siyo had been so quiet, and I wondered what she thought about all this. She seemed to know more than she was saying.
‘I am resting. You will need me soon enough.’ And she was gone again.
We drove for several hours until Mora suddenly pulled over at a hotel near the road we were driving on. “We need to rest, we need supplies, and we need to wait for Torin. He’s almost here.”
