Oliver's Pov
I woke up abruptly as I heard noises coming from downstairs. Oh shit! It was my grandma, I was so sure of her voice. What could be happening to her?
I scooted out of bed and quickly left my room. I halted in my tracks as I remembered what happened yesterday and that could be the explanation for grandma's yelling.
I closed my eyes and shook my head slowly, I thought she went home or something. Fuck! I feel asleep forgetting all about her? But why was I attacking myself? Isn't this what I wanted after all?
I got to the entrance and opened the front door. I saw grandma hovering over motionless Freya. This was my doing and how was I going to explain things to her for her to understand?
"Please help me, what happened to her? What happened to Freya, Oliver? What in Heaven's name did you do that you couldn't take care of her until I returned?"
"I will get the car keys, I will be back." I said and then left her mourning as if Freya was dead already.
I returned with the keys to my SUV and raised her in my arms. She looked peaceful but very white, I must have done her serious harm. As part of me wanted her gone from my side, the other half was going to live in complete darkness for life if she died.
I sped very fast, blowing the siren so I would escape the heavy traffic. I pulled over in front of the hospital, all eyes were on me as I walked through the hall carrying Freya in my arms.
"Mrs Callum, can I help you?" An old man, probably seven years younger than my grandma asked, came closer.
"Yes, it's urgent."
"Okay good, Alpha Oliver, please put her in this room and I will check up on her. I will be very grateful if you wait for me and hope things will be fine soon."
The doctor assured my grandma and smiled briefly. The doctor went inside, and I walked out with grandma to take our seat.
"What happened, Oliver? And I want nothing but the truth from you." She said in a tone meaning business. I guess now Freya was more dear to her than I have ever been.
"It's not like I am going to lie? Why would I do that anyway? Well, I punished her, I made her stand in the heavy rain last night."
"What?" She yelled and the passing nurses turned to look at us.
"What came into you, Oliver? How could you think of something as extreme as this one? She could have passed out, do you know that?"
"Oh come on, grandma, I told you I don't want her around me. Are you not even going to ask me why I punished her?"
"I am not, it's not like I care anyway. All I know is that you are forcing her to hate you and the slightest mistake she makes, you will take the opportunity to treat her as though this planet is not a place for her to stay."
"At least you know that then why do you insist she stays?"
"Because she's your mate, Oliver and you are not getting any younger, you've got to have a partner. I want to hold my grandchildren in my arms before I die. Is this too difficult for you?"
"Grandma, stop speaking like that. How many times should I tell you I don't want a human as my mate? She knows nothing about our existence. I don't want Freya, period."
"How can you say that when you love her inside you. Don't you realize how you look at her? It's not even compared to how you look at Lily or Lisa, whatever her name is. Freya is the woman for you and I am going to keep pressing until you change your mind about her form." She said slowly, her anger dissolving into determination.
"All the best but I should warn you that you are not going to succeed. Once my mind's made up, it's made up." I said and then got up to lean against the wall, averting my gaze from hers.
I could say sorry to her and make her forget everything however, my pride wouldn't allow me to do so. Aside from that, what was she going to think of me?
The doctor walked towards my grandma and she stood up impatiently. I felt relieved in a way by the doctor's smile as he reached forward.
"Doctor, how is she?"
"Please calm down Mrs Callum, your girl is fine and you don't have to be this anxious. You know you are also putting your health at risk so please..." She nodded, softening her expression.
"Actually you can't see her now, give her a few minutes to rest. I will be back to let you know if you can see her."
"Alpha Oliver, please keep your grandma calm. You will be able to see the patient soon enough." He bowed and then left.
"I am so grateful she's alright. I don't want to think what would have happened to me if something bad had happened to her. She's a very good and innocent person, you know? And she's also very beautiful, and her beauty even reminds me of your mother."
"Grandma," I called in a warning. She was taking things way too far. I knew how good, innocent and beautiful she was. What I didn't prefer is the form she's made. I don't want to mate with a human and it was never going to happen.
"What? I am only telling you the truth, you tell me, doesn't she look like your mother?" I shook my head at her question.
"Let's just end it here, I don't want to talk about it, grandma." She respected my decisions and kept quiet.
"Hello ma'am, Doctor Andrew asked me to tell you that you can see the patient now. He's in the operating room and will finish soon." A bright female doctor said and then walked away after.
"Aren't you coming with me?" Grandma asked as she found me making a move to go with her. I wasn't sure what Freya was going to say and that kept me rooted here.
"You can take the lead first, I will join you later, grandma."
"No, we are going together so that you can apologize for whatever you did to her."
"Hell no, I am not going to apologize to her whatsoever. Have you forgotten? I am an Alpha, come on."
"Well, you should have thought of that before you pushed her into the rain. You are going to apologize and wait until you are forgiven."
"I am sorry I have to disappoint you, grandma. I will not do what you are asking me to do, I just can't." She looked frustrated, and it seemed like I was giving her a hard time because of Freya.
She patted me on the back slowly, "it's okay, son. Just come with me to see her." She said friendly then smiled alongside, making me feel a bit better.
We got inside and found her resting, her eyes still closed and her chest rising and falling as she breathed. I took a careful glare at her, my grandma was right, she looked pretty much like my mom.
"Grandma..." Freya whispered and I realized she was awake now. I did not blink when she looked at me.
"How are you, my dearest?" Grandma's question.
"I don't know but I think I am fine. When did you return, are you alright?" She asked, her voice so soft and melodious. It was very hard forcing myself to hate her.
"Don't worry about me, I am very fine. And the doctor will be here in a while to let us know if you can be discharged now."
"Okay, grandma." She whispered and the old lady took her hand affectionately.
"Oliver, the doctor is taking a long, stay here with Freya and I will go get him, alright?" I nodded and she went out.
The atmosphere in the room tensed even though she also tried very hard to avoid my gaze. Congratulations to me, now she hates me so much.
Few minutes later, grandma returned with the lady doctor we saw earlier. She smiled brightly at Freya.
"Miss Freya, I will discharge you in a moment, are you happy to leave? I know you are but please listen to this. Do not attempt to swim if you don't know how to swim. You could lose your life."
"I understand that, thanks ma'am." Freya whispered and looked in my direction.
Soon we were home and grandma asked me to send a cup of tea to Freya. I accepted it because it was my fault in a way. She wouldn't have been in bed instead of making lunch and causing trouble.
"Grandma asked me to bring you a cup of coffee, I will place it on the table and leave." I said as I entered her room and found her in bed.
"I don't want tea, I want something else from you, Alpha Oliver." She spoke softly and took me by surprise, I thought she was going to get angry.
