Chapter 85 85
Chapter 85 85
“Fhoxia,” I called when we are all gathered in front of the messenger. “This is Quillon, you understand each other, right?”
As if I understand that Fhoxia would not respond, I looked at Quillon and wait for what he has heard. Not just me, but everyone of us.
“She says ‘the time is near’,” Quillon said, looking straight at Fhoxia. “Her task in this realm has ended but she couldn’t leave until she got to help. That is why she can no longer speak and why she was starting to join the wind.”
The tears couldn’t stop itself from forming into my eyes. So that is why Fhoxia hasn’t responded to any of us. This is the reason and she stays just to help us.
“Did she find out anything to help?” Jacob asked. All of us are stunned with what Quillon said but Jacob recovered first. “Any cure?”
Quillon was patiently waiting for what Fhoxia has answered. The silence made my head swirl in thoughts, mixed emotions and ideas. But from it all, the silent prayer I did in the back of my head shone brightly than the others.
“She said she gathered none from research.”
The groan from Aiden’s lips and the low shriek of Ashira was heard and all I could do was let my tears roll down my cheeks and wrap my arms around Jacob’s torso. I buried my face in his chest and his palm rested on my back. There was no sound heard from him, no emotion registered in his face.
“But she was saying…” I turned to Quillon again, waiting. The kid turned to us, looking at us, in our eyes one at a time. “She was saying that she stayed because she felt something similar to hope that is coming your way.”
When I exhaled, I didn’t realized I was holding my breath. Everyone of us parted our lips, about to speak or ask a question, but we stopped when Quillon looked at Fhoxia again as if he was called. She’s saying something.
“She didn’t know what is it at first,” the boy continued. “Or how.”
“At first? So now, she got something?”
Quillon didn’t bother looking at his father who asked. He remained listening, sincere and serious, as he looked at Fhoxia.
“Until you saw me?” Quillon’s tone was a bit shocked and he was not translating to us but conversing with Fhoxia now. He listened again and we wait.
Quillon? If I was right, Fhoxia was saying that Quillon is our help, he is our hope. I couldn’t stop myself from staring at the boy’s face. Can he really help us? And if he could, will he do it?
What if the process will harm this little boy? I don’t think I could even imagine it. And Aiden and Ashira will surely won’t let their son be in danger.
This gets completely complicated in my head. I’m over-thinking and all the positive output has left my brain cells.
It took a couple of minute that Quillon listens. We were all waiting, watching him, his expression has shown not much of answer. What are they talking about?
Then I realized that Fhoxia was slowly fading, her body was slowly merging with the wind, turning into sand first and getting swayed by the wind away.
“What’s happening?” I panicked. Jacob held me tight, not letting me go near Fhoxia or Quillon. No, he was giving them more space and time to finish whatever conversation they were having.
“Jacob! She’s getting away!”
Jacob clenched his jaw. His eyes were observing, one thing I loved about him, but now I believed he should say something. Why wasn’t he panicking? Does he wanted to die that bad?
“It's time for her to go, baby.” Jacob whispered, not taking his eyes away from Fhoxia–a vertically half of Fhoxia.
“We didn't even get anything.” I sobbed in his chest. I really thought we were going to have answers or solutions when Quillon finally heard the messenger. It was such a big shine of hope but it was only temporarily. I hate it. I hate this!
Maybe life is just this way. A glint of hope will come and blind us but it goes just as fast. There's no forever in hope. It always ends. No matter the result.
Fhoxia continued to fade and vanish into the air completely. I couldn't watch it, I just let my face buried in my mate's chest, hugging him tight with one thing playing in my head: I'll lose him soon. There's no other way now.
“I'm sorry, Luce.” I felt Ashira’s hand on my back, gently rubbing before she walked near her own mate.
“Too early to say that, Ash.” I heard Aiden next. “Quillon, you got something?”
My head snapped to Aiden. What did he say? My eyes turned to Quillon, all teary and ugly from my crying.
What's happening?
Jacob sighed and looked at me. His expression was soft, but not afraid unlike mine. He still got the hope, while I'm here imagining the worst there could be.
“What is it?” Ash asked Aiden, confused just like I do as she looked at her son, too.
“Jacob..” my eyes were questioning, wondering. He gave me a weak smile and I loosened my embrace just like he did.
“The kid was conversing with the messenger until she was gone, baby.” He placed his palm on my cheeks, caressing and wiping the tears. “You're too busy crying your eyes out, you mustn't noticed.”
Aiden chuckled behind me.
“Wow,” Ashira murmured. “Come here, baby.” She motioned for Quillon closer. I watched him walk to her mother. His eyes glanced at me gor a second as he passed. “Did she say anything that can help Aunt Lucianna and Uncle Jake?”
Quillon looked at us first before saying, “Yes, Mommy.”
I exhaled louder than I intended, resisting myself to cry once more.
“But the woman was not sure. She said we could try.” There was hesitation in his voice. I was so eager to hear more that I didn't realized I was nodding my head ‘yes’. I'll be so willing to fucking try anything.
“Okay, baby. What did she say?”
“She said its private and not to talk here outside.”
All of us exchanged glances and Jacob finally nodded his head.
“Let's go to my office.”
And we all did.
