Every fiber of my being screamed to obey, to reveal myself and confront the leader, but caution held me back. I slid silently out of hiding, allowing the light to reveal my presence. I faced Alastair, saying not a word, merely watching him with eyes that held a mixture of determination and fear.
Alastair wasn't just the alpha; he was like a father to me. Despite that, I knew my place in the pack was delicate, a fragile balance between acceptance and tolerance. He broke the tense silence, his gaze laden with questions. “Why did you hide, Fierce?”
I swallowed hard, trying to find the right words to explain my hidden presence, while struggling to control the swirling emotions within me. “I... didn't want to interrupt. It was a matter for the boys, and I didn't want to... meddle.”
Alastair studied me for a moment, his expression a mix of understanding and suspicion. He took a deep breath before speaking. “You are part of this pack, Fierce.”
Those words echoed in my mind, carrying a weight I could barely bear. My loyalty to the pack was unquestionable, but my feelings for Hunter complicated everything. The previous night still echoed in my mind, the intensity of what we shared in secret now overshadowed by this drama.
“Alastair, I...” The words escaped me, pain and confusion intertwining, making it hard to find the right expression.
The alpha studied me closely, seeming to understand the turmoil within me. “Is there something you wish to say, Fierce?”
A lump formed in my throat. The truth was at the edge of my lips, but fear of its consequences paralyzed me.
He stepped closer, his eyes fixed on mine. “Do you have something to say, Fierce?”
I swallowed hard and shook my head. I had no words to explain why I was there, silently observing the boys' punishment. Not only that, but I knew Alastair would never understand the curiosity that drove me to venture into the human city.
Alastair growled, his voice deep and threatening. “After everything that's happened, you have nothing to say?”
Gathering my courage, I replied, my voice trembling. “I was just curious, Alastair. I wanted to understand what the boys were doing.”
He looked at me with disapproving eyes. “Curiosity is one thing, Fierce. But you, who had your parents killed by humans, deciding to bond with Caleb and the others, going to the city... that's unacceptable.”
I felt a tightening in my chest. I knew Alastair was right, but my curiosity had led me to challenge the pack's rules. Likewise, I had to admit my mistake. “I'm sorry, Alastair. I shouldn't have done that.”
He growled again, his eyes ablaze. “Apologies aren't enough, Fierce. You'll have to pay for what you've done.”
I faced the alpha, my mind spinning with fear of what would come next. “What will happen to me, Alastair?”
He came even closer, his hot breath hitting my face. “Since you were so eager to live among an inferior race, you'll be treated as one now. You will walk with the omega females of the pack.”
My legs weakened, and I turned into a submissive position. The punishment was harsh, but I deserved it. To be separated from the others, confined to the role of an omega, was a lonely sentence I would have to endure.
However, as I followed Alastair to join the omega females, I felt willing to accept my punishment, but I also knew that somehow, I would find a way back to prove my worth to the pack. Even if it meant challenging the fate that Alastair had laid out for me.

The return to the pack after Alastair's decision had been painful and filled with disapproving glances. The place where I used to stay was marked by the grizzly bear's paw prints, a constant reminder of my disobedience. As I walked toward the space where the omegas gathered, I felt the piercing stares of the other pack members who didn't understand my curiosity about the human world.
Alastair walked beside me, his posture rigid and his gaze serious. He seemed unwilling to allow any deviation from his decision. When we finally reached the place where the omega females congregated, Alastair approached me and said in a low but firm voice, “This is your home now, Fierce.”
I faced Alastair, feeling the weight of his decision upon me. The pack was all I'd known since being taken in by him, but I'd never truly felt a part of it. He was my adoptive father, but there was an abyss between us that seemed impossible to bridge.
“For how long, Alastair?” I asked, my voice carrying the pain of the imposed separation.
He sighed, appearing remorseful. “Until you understand that your place is with us, not with humans. You need to learn to respect our rules and traditions.”
I remained silent, accepting the sentence but promising myself that somehow, I would find a way to reconcile my curiosity about the human world with my loyalty to the pack.
As I walked toward the omega females, I was greeted by Circe and Sibyl, two she-wolves who had always treated me kindly. Circe had fur as black as night and eyes that shone with wisdom. Sibyl, on the other hand, had lively caramel fur, always ready for lively conversation.
Sibyl, with a look of understanding, softly said, “Fierce, welcome among us. We're here to support each other, no matter what happens.”
Circe smiled upon seeing me and said, “Fierce, is it true you went to Denver?”
I nodded with a shy smile. “Yes, it's true. I went to Denver.”
Sibyl approached, her eyes full of curiosity. “What's it like there? Tell us!”
My eyes gleamed with memories of my brief visit to the human city. “It was magical, girls. The lights, the tall buildings, the bustling streets... it was like being in a completely different world. And the people, they were so... unique.”
Circe tilted her head, absorbing my words. “Did you make friends there?”
I thought of Caleb and the other banished boys, remembering the brief friendship we formed. “There wasn't time, but I met people who were so different from us, yet so alike at the same time. It was an incredible experience.”
Sibyl and Circe exchanged glances, and I could see the curiosity in their eyes. The pack was our family, but we also lived in isolation from human society. My words must have stirred in their minds the same curiosity that had driven me to venture into the city.
Circe gently touched my paw. “Fierce, could you tell us more about it? About what the human world is like?”
I smiled, grateful to have someone to share my experiences with. “Of course, girls. I'll tell you everything I know.”
As I began to share my stories about Denver and the human world, I saw Circe and Sibyl's eyes light up with excitement. They were hungry for knowledge, just as I was. I could feel that somehow, our curiosity would unite us, even though we were separated from the main pack.
Although Alastair's punishment still weighed on me, I knew I had found a place where my curiosity was valued and shared. I might have been forced to walk with the omega females, but here, between Circe and Sibyl, I would find a new kind of belonging and support.
I didn't know how long my punishment would last, but I felt that maybe I wasn't as alone as I feared.
