Chapter 17
Chapter 17
Asher’s POV
That’s it, I was done playing Mr Nice guy. I stormed down the hallway, fury running through my veins. Not a man, am I? I thought, Well if I’m not a man I am a monster and maybe it’s time for her to see the monster that lives inside this skin.
“Ash!” I heard Cade chasing after me, but I didn’t stop.
I gave her every chance. Her own room, time to settle in. I even supported her while she cried for that mutt, Chase. Hell, I let her think she had a choice in this. I could have had her tied to my bed and fucked and marked her that first night if I wanted. But I didn’t, because I wasn’t the monster she thought I was. The monster my father is!
“Asher!” Cade grabbed my arm, and I whirled around, growling at him.
“What Cade?” I snarled.
“Seriously Ash, calm down.” He held his hands up in front of him. “What just happened? The last I saw, you were about to get lucky.”
“Dayna!” I hissed. “She was in the room. Kaeleigh figured out that she’s my mate.” I started walking down the hallway again. “All this work has just exploded into shit, and now I have to fix it.”
“Hold on, fix it, how?” Cade grabbed my arm, pulling me to a stop again. “I hope to the goddess that you aren’t planning what I think you are planning, Ash, because I can’t stand by in good conscience and let that happen.” I yanked my arm out of his hands and glared at him.
“Don’t forget who you are loyal to, Beta!” I growled, and he lowered his head. “You’ll let whatever the hell I say happen.”
“Yes Alpha,” he said, his eyes not moving from the floor. I let out a breath.
“She hates me, Cade,” I said, the anger seeping away. “I saw it in her eyes. I have no choice.” I started off again and Cade called after me.
“There is always a choice. You just might not like the result.” I carried on walking until I hit the stairwell and headed down to the next floor.
I could feel the anger boiling in me again. My own Beta and best friend were siding against me. And my own goddess given mate. Before Kaeleigh, Dayna would idolise me. She accepted we could never be officially together. She knew that my destiny was always to be with the Queen in the prophecy, and she was happy with that. She would even tell me the stories her granny told her. While we laid in bed after making love. She would tell me about the powerful children me and my Queen would have. Her granny was a seer, so I believed what she said. But not now, just now. She looked at me in fear, like I was going to hurt her.
I reached Isaac’s room and walked right in without knocking. I grimaced when I saw Isaac sitting at the table with my father. Shit, this wasn’t good. My father looked up at me and scowled.
“My apologies, son,” he said with a sarcastic tone. “I must have forgotten to teach the lessons on manners.” I growled involuntarily, and my father raised an eyebrow. I shook my head at him and turned to Isaac.
“We need to step the spell up. There’s been a complication!” He put down the teacup he was holding and turned and looked over his wire-framed glasses at me. His shocking red hair made me think momentarily of Kaeleigh.
“How much of a complication?” he asked.
“Kaeleigh now hates the sight of me, complication,” I said flippantly. “What does it matter? I said I want the spell to step up to maximum.” I was sick of people thinking they had control over me. First my father, then Kaeleigh, and now Isaac, the condescending jerk.
“I am the Alpha of this pack. When is everyone going to start remembering that?” I snarled.
“How about,” my father said, glaring at me, “when you stop acting like a child, and start acting like an Alpha.” He stood up and walked towards me. “How, pray tell, did our dear sweet Kaeleigh decide to start hating you?” I recognised the tone from my childhood, and almost shrunk back, but I held myself proud.
“She found out about Dayna being my mate, and she was angry because I let you fuck her,” I spat at him. If he hadn’t been playing games the other day, I wouldn’t have been in this situation. Kaeleigh would never have met Dayna.
“You let me fuck her, is that what happened son?” He stood so close to me that I took a step back. I knew by the look in his eyes that I had made a big mistake. Before I could react, he backhanded me hard enough to knock me flying across the room. I slumped against the wall, my face stinging from the slap. I pulled myself to my feet, but my father was in front of me and had me by the throat and pinned against the wall.
“You didn’t let me do anything, you spoilt piece of shit. You dared to defy me and I used your little omega mate slut to show you exactly who was in charge here.” He let go, and I dropped to the floor, coughing. He stalked to the other side of the room.
“And how did you defy me, son?” He asked, not waiting for me to answer “By being the weak and pathetic little child that you are.” I pulled myself to my feet. “I told you to mate her the last time we had her. But no big Alpha Asher wants the girl to fall in love with him,” he hissed at the word love. “Love is for the weak and stupid, and you are shaping up to be both.”
I growled at my father as he belittled me and called me names, but he took no notice.
“And now look where your stupidity has got you,” he taunted as he rolled his eyes to Isaac “Now your plans of sweet love and happy families are flushed down the drain and your queen hates you all over again, and she’s running around thinking she has any sort of control.” He stood up again and dusted himself off.
“Women are only good for two things. Fucking and giving you an heir. Anything else is a distraction. And all Kaeleigh is, is the conduit to the power that I deserve.” I clenched my fists because all I wanted to do was to rip out his throat, and he knew it. He stood and watched me with a smirk on his face. After a minute of glaring, he chuckled to himself and stalked towards me again.
“I am growing impatient waiting for you to get me what I want Asher, I don’t care how you get it done, just get it done.” He smirked at me as I growled again.
“You have a week, or I will pay young Miss Dayna a visit again.” I snarled and took a step forward. He stood there unmoved by my fury and pulled a mockingly disappointed face.
“Yeah, just as I thought,” he sneered when I didn’t move any further. He knew I couldn’t. He had already ensured that I had no power over him. “You are a weak boy, and a disappointment!” He curled his lip in disgust.
“You know I think I chose the wrong sacrifice for the curse all that time back, if I had picked you instead of your snivelling bitch of a mother, then at least she could have given more heirs, all you give me is failure,” he spat.
“Noooooo!” I roared and grabbed him by his throat and slammed him against the wall, squeezing. Seconds later, I felt a searing pain through my head and around my throat and cried out, grabbing my head and dropping my hold on my father. I felt like clawing at my brain in order to get the ten plus year old command out of it. It was still as strong as ever. Despite the length of time and that I was Alpha now and not him. Any act of violence towards him by me, and I would get the quickest and most brutal flash of pain. Not to mention the connection spell that Isaac had placed. I heard my father laugh.
“Now that’s the dominant wolf that I expect from you. Use that hatred for me and go get me my hybrid power.” And with that, he stalked out of the room, leaving the door wide open.
I pulled myself up off the floor and growled at the smirk on Isaac’s face. I stalked over and got in his face.
“I want the effects of the spell increased. I want Kaeleigh like a bitch in heat when we are done. I want her on her knees begging me to mark her, you understand me?” and Isaac just looked over his glasses at me. I growled and allowed my wolf to come through and saw the fear appear in his eyes.
“Do you understand?” I asked again, and he nodded his head quickly.
“It will take me a couple of days to work around the challenges,” he said, and he started to write stuff down. “And I will need her contained to one central location so I can concentrate the energy correctly,” he looked at me over his glasses at me again “Is that possible?” I nodded once to say I would make it happen, and he smirked.
“Good. It’s been a while since I’ve had some fun.”
“Just get it done,” I growled, not ignoring the fact that I mimicked my father there.
I set off out of the door and was halfway down the hallway when I was slammed against a wall face first. I tried to look back to see who it was, but my head was pushed forward until I was squashed flat to the wall. I scented the air and grinned. I didn’t need to see who was behind me.
“Why Adam,” I grinned, “I didn’t know you were into such rough play.” I heard him growl behind me.
“I am giving you one last warning, Asher,” he spat. “I just heard what your plans for Kaeleigh are, and I am giving you one chance.” he grabbed my arm, twisting it.
“Stay away from Kaeleigh, because if you hurt her, I will rip you apart.” I laughed in response.
“Oh, but Adam, all I want to do is love my queen. I would never intentionally hurt my queen.” and he growled at me again, but let me go.
“I mean it Asher, I will destroy you Asher, even if I die doing it.”
“Noted,” I said in my most bored tone. “Now, if you excuse me, I have a woman to go win back.”
I turned and flashed him with a grin before sliding past him.
