Diana's Choice
After this final plan, there would be no more turning back. The game of death and revenge would finally start turning.
“No innocent will die, Shinro.” This was a promise not to Shinro but to herself and to her wolf.
“What will you tell Alpha Dylan? He is still your mate. And he is the alpha. He is bound to know that shit is going down.”
Remembering their previous interactions when he brought her to meet that person, she breathed in. “I believe he already knew most of my plan.” She sighed. “Knowing and seeing are two different things. I will have to talk to him one of these days. He is a bit unstable, you know. You’re his doctor, you know it best.”
“And whose fault was that? It is a natural reaction against a mate bond. You tinkered with the bond through magic, this is the consequence.”
Frowning, she asked. “We both acknowledged our mate bond. Why am I still alright?”
Shinro started to eat the bowl of noodles in front of him. “It is a subconscious reaction on his part. He somehow knew at the deepest part of the bond that you will also suffer withdrawals, but Alpha Dylan took it all himself. Hence, he is the one suffering more than usual. He cares for you and he is more attached to you than you think.”
“So you better think twice before you do something you will forever regret,” Shinro looked up to the sky where the stars remained to be seen. Worry laced his voice.
They were there waiting for the fireworks to bloom in the sky, the mark of the start of a night-long after-festival next to the Welcoming Ceremony to commemorate the blessings of the moon goddess when she bestowed her blessings to the wolves.
Though the bright crescent-shaped moon remained shining above the darkness, it looked lonely without the surrounding stars. “Thank you for the reminder, Shinro. You are not that bad at all. You were just forced to turn into a villain for someone else’s fairytale… “
Clearing the weather, or better yet, changing the weather at her will was one of the many things Diana could do as a witch. She did not know the limits of this power or when could she use this. Seeing that Shinro did not answer her but remained looking at the cloudy night sky, she decided.
Diana flicked her right wrist as if she was only swatting a fly under the table. It was too subtle that no one, not even Shinro had detected it. But the change above them started the moment she flicked her wrist nonchalantly was indeed noticeable. The cluster of clouds covering the twinkling stars dissipated, erasing any worry from the citizens that a rain or a drizzle would fall in the middle of their celebration.
A glint flashed beneath Shinro’s eyes. His gloom started to reduce when he looked at Diana again. “Thank you. I will help you maintain the deaths to the bare minimum. Only those who were deserving to die will die… that I promise you, Diana.”
Diana smiled at Shiro. “After today, Rakiz will reach out to you. What happened to Luke Cain and Axel Cain will be used to spark the friction that has always been there. The Werewolf Committee needed one good reason to start a ruckus after the loss of the Pandora’s Box. They will not miss this chance to do it.”
“What if they turned to the Blood Claws Pack after they are done with the Crescent Pack?”
A smile so sweet reflected on her face, yet there was no hint of innocence in her eyes – only malice. “Trust me. They won’t. Your pack will not be harmed under my watch and so will the Blood Claws Pack.”
‘Let the wheel of fortune turn against them this time.’ Diana swore in her mind, her eyes flickered for a good moment as she stared straight at Shinro the Slayer.
With her gaze fixated on Shinro, Diana flicked her wrist twice under the table. On cue, a shimmering rainbow formed a circular barrier around the crescent moon, making the latter glow even more.
“Mother! Look at the moon!”
“Hush, son. That is the moon goddess showing her blessing to the Blood Claws Pack.”
“Long live the Blood Claws Pack!”
“Long live Alpha Dylan Cain!”
“Long live the moon goddess!”
The lively screams of joy in the streets made Shinro snap from his deep swirls of thoughts. A pair of gaunt eyes looked down with wonder before his gaze shifted towards the sky above them, followed by a soft gasp behind a mask.
“Now I am inclined to believe about Alpha Dylan’s words. I always thought it was only a figment of imagination. But looking at it now? I can confirm that there is a good witch residing within the territories of the Blood Claws Pack.”
Diana crossed her arms and cocked her head as she asked with obvious interest. “A good witch? Don’t we all view witches as evil hence they were eliminated hundreds of years ago?”
With his chin placed atop the back of his left palm, his head cocked to his left side as the corner of his lips curled up behind his mask. “Look at that, Diana. Just look at that. If a vile creature can make people happy, then I don’t know what to call myself anymore.”
Under the table, Diana curled her fingers together. She was fighting back the urge to tell anyone that she was not really a witch but she got the talent of a witch.
‘This is crazy. I can’t even really explain it if I blurt it out. If I have to tell Dylan, then it will also mean that I have to tell him about my rebirth. I do not think I am ready to share that part of me – not even to my supposed mate.’ Diana thought solemnly.
Despite not being totally honest with Dylan, Diana could say that she had chosen him. Not because he was gifted by the moon goddess to her, but because she had approved him.
‘Alpha Dylan Cain is my chosen mate.’
It was in this moment that Diana received a mind link from Beta Seymor Tesan.
‘Miss Ritchell! Quick! Come to the pack house!’
