A New Morning

A New Morning
Dante’s POV

Morning light slipped through the shutters in thin gold blades, cutting across the bed and painting Luciana’s shoulder in soft, warm stripes. She was still asleep—face half-buried in the pillow, dark hair fanned like spilled ink, lips parted on slow, even breaths. The sheet had slipped down to her waist during the night, leaving the curve of her spine and the gentle rise of her hip exposed. The mating mark I’d given her last night sat at the join of neck and shoulder: two neat crescent punctures already silvered over, surrounded by a faint blush of bruising that would fade by noon.

I lay on my side, head propped on one fist, watching her.

I’d been awake for maybe twenty minutes. Long enough to count the tiny freckles scattered across her collarbone. Long enough to notice how her lashes fluttered every time she dreamed something pleasant. Long enough to feel the steady thump of my own heart trying to match hers.

She stirred—small, unconscious movements. A sigh. Her fingers flexed against the sheet. Then her lashes lifted, slow and sleepy, hazel eyes finding mine almost immediately.

For a second neither of us spoke.

Then her mouth curved—soft, private, a little shy.

“Morning,” she whispered, voice still thick with sleep.

“Morning, beautiful.”

She stretched like a cat—slow arch of her back, toes pointing, small sound of pure contentment in her throat—then rolled toward me. The sheet slid lower. I didn’t bother pretending not to look.

“You’re staring,” she murmured, but there was no scold in it. Only warmth.

“Can’t help it.” I reached out, brushed a strand of hair off her cheek. “You’re glowing.”

She laughed—quiet, husky. “I’m sweaty and my hair looks like a bird’s nest.”

“You’re perfect,” I corrected, sliding my hand to the nape of her neck, thumb stroking the sensitive skin just below her ear. “And you smell like me. Like us.”

Her pupils dilated at that. She pressed closer until our bodies aligned—breast to chest, thigh to thigh, heat building where we touched.

“Kiss me,” she said. Not a question.

I did.

Slow at first—lips brushing, learning each other in daylight the way we’d learned each other in the dark. Then deeper. Tongues sliding. Her fingers digging into my shoulders. My hand sliding down her spine, cupping her ass, pulling her tighter against me.

She whimpered into my mouth when she felt how hard I already was.

I rolled us so she was on top—giving her control, giving her the power to set the pace. She sat up slowly, straddling my hips, palms braced on my chest. Her hair fell around us like a dark curtain. The sheet pooled at her waist.

She looked down at me—eyes soft, wondering, a little awed.

“You’re really here,” she whispered, almost to herself. “This is real.”

I caught her hand, brought it to my lips, kissed the center of her palm.

“Real as it gets.”

She leaned down and kissed me again—deeper, hungrier. Her hips rolled in a slow, experimental circle. We both groaned at the friction.

“Dante…” Her voice cracked on my name.

I slid my hands up her thighs, thumbs brushing the crease where leg met hip. “Tell me what you want, Luci.”

“You,” she breathed. “Just you. Slow. I want to feel everything.”

I nodded once—throat too tight for words.

She lifted herself just enough for me to guide myself to her entrance. We both held our breath as she sank down—inch by careful inch, eyes locked on mine, lips parted on soft gasps.

When I was fully seated inside her she paused, trembling, forehead pressed to mine.

“Full,” she whispered again, like she was still discovering the word. “So full.”

I cupped her face. “You okay?”

She nodded—small, certain. “Perfect.”

Then she started to move.

Slow rolls at first—testing, learning the rhythm that made us both shudder. I kept my hands on her hips—not guiding, just steadying—letting her find what felt good. Every time she ground down in a way that dragged a groan out of me, she smiled—small, triumphant, beautiful.

“Like that?” she asked, voice breathy.

“Love that,” I rasped.

She leaned forward, bracing her hands on my chest, picking up speed just a little. Her breasts swayed with every roll; I couldn’t resist lifting my head to catch one nipple in my mouth. She moaned—loud, unrestrained—and her rhythm faltered for a second before she found it again.

“Dante—”

I switched sides, sucking gently, flicking with my tongue. Her hips stuttered, then moved faster—needy, desperate. I slid one hand between us—thumb finding her clit, circling in time with her thrusts.

She came first—sudden, hard, clenching around me so tightly I saw white at the edges of my vision. Her cry was muffled against my shoulder; her nails dug half-moons into my back.

I followed seconds later—growling her name, spilling deep, hips jerking up to meet her one last time.

We collapsed together—sweaty, shaking, laughing through the aftershocks.

She stayed draped across my chest, cheek pressed over my heart, listening to it slow.

After a long minute she whispered, “I’ve never been happier.”

I tightened my arms around her.

“Me neither.”

She sighed—long, content, peaceful—and I felt every dark thought that had ever haunted her slip away like smoke in sunlight.

She loved this man.
This creature.
This mate.

She sighed again—soft, sleepy—and drifted back to sleep with my heartbeat under her ear.

I pressed a kiss to her hair.

Forever, I promised silently.

Forever.
