Chapter 89 Eiden
Eiden's POV
“I'm certain those perpetrators are rogue assassins.” Beta Serena began our discussion with a serious expression.
“For more than two weeks, our elite team warriors and our spy warriors have found no clues as to where they are hiding throughout our territory.” Beta Serena shook her head, brows knitted.
“They used weapons.” Delta Sophia straightened her back, feeling the tension in this discussion.
“The two men who stopped Alpha's car were carrying machetes, and the man who shot Alpha's left ear was using a revolver.” Delta Sophia looked at me with pity, even though my ear was only injured for five seconds.
“We’ve confirmed that none of the rogue intel were armed, nor did they receive any orders to threaten, terrorize, or assassinate anyone.” Delta Sophia spoke with confidence, trusting the testimonies gathered by our warrior spies.
"They all ran like the wind." Gamma Nolan folded his arms across his chest, his back straight. "I'm certain there were only two perpetrators."
“So you agree that the two men who stopped my car that night, after I attended the seminar at White Sea Pack, were the same ones who threw the threatening note tied to the stones and shot me in the left ear?” I looked at them one by one, one eyebrow raised.
“Yes, I am very sure that there are only two perpetrators because after they stopped your car near the River Pack Clan border gate, you were constantly terrorized, and someone even dared to shoot you!” Beta Serena's tightly clenched fists punched the sofa arm furiously.
“The two men disappeared as if swallowed by the darkness of the night as our spy warriors chased after them.” Gamma Nolan stroked his chin, his gaze fixed on the fries—he didn’t want to be the first to take them.
“The two men entered our territory two days after they stopped Alpha's car," said Delta Sophia. Perhaps she was correct because my bedroom window had been struck by a stone two days after I attended the seminar.
“If they truly are rogue assassins…” Beta Serena exhaled slowly. “Then our chances of capturing them are very slim.” She shook her head, clearly discouraged.
“Ever since the rogue assassins appeared on this planet, they’ve been like an anomaly that can’t be eradicated,” Beta Serena said in a tense tone, like she was telling a dark fairy tale not intended for children. “No one has ever been able to catch them. Until today!”
"When they first appeared, everyone rejected them, saying they had no conscience, their actions were heinous, and against the Moon Goddess. But as time went on, many became their clients," said Gamma Nolan.
Finally, he couldn't resist munching on the fries.
"For sixty years, they've not only been killing, but they've also been selling information. Their information is guaranteed to be more accurate than that of rogue intel." I reminded them that rogue assassins aren't always bad.
The rogue assassin group let me know how to stop the nightmares that had been haunting me for months and caught the perpetrator who paid one of the Alpha Sifon group members to send those nightmares to me.
However, if the ones who terrorized me and shot my ear were rogue assassins, I didn’t know how I would look at them after that.
“If they’re rogue assassins, how do we know which group they belong to?” I tilted my head. “There are three rogue assassin groups, and I only know one of them.”
“That’s the main problem.” Beta Serena snapped her fingers with a weak shake of her head.
“We need to know which group the two men are from. Then, we'll contact the other rogue assassin groups and ask them to find the perpetrators who are testing my patience." I growled, my fists clenched tightly.
“But no one knows if the three rogue assassin groups are investigating each other,” I added.
"We'll never know that information. Even the rogue intel doesn't know anything about rogue assassins," Gamma Nolan spoke with quiet resignation, as though we’d reached a dead end.
"I won't give up," I said, shaking my head. "We'll definitely catch the perpetrators." I was optimistic because I was so curious.
“Since yesterday, the elite warrior team and the warrior spy team have been expanding the search for the perpetrators,” I said, my gaze fixed on them.
"If catching rogue assassins is too difficult, we should be able to apprehend the people who paid them." I opened and closed my hands with a crooked smile, imagining myself crushing their bones.
"Yeah, let's just entrust this case to the elite and spy team warriors," Delta Sophia said.
I glanced at my watch. Normally, I'd text Celeste, asking if Liam had gotten home from school yet. But I couldn't hold my phone while I was talking to them.
"Do you think I'm worthy of being Liam's father?" I suddenly asked them, my face unabashed.
“I don't know what to say because I haven't seen you interact with Liam for a month," Beta Serena said, choosing her words carefully.
Gamma Nolan and Delta Sophia nodded.
“Liam still wants to see you, even after Alpha Jackson and his warrior squad attacked our pack while he was staying at your mansion.
“And yesterday, he enjoyed living in your new home. So I can safely say that Liam has gotten used to your presence.” Beta Serena smiled broadly, her eyes sparkling.
I smiled shyly and nodded twice. “I hope you’re right, Beta.”
Celeste, Liam, Levi, and I already have a house where we can stay together every Saturday and Sunday.
I assigned several of my warrior spies to watch the area during our stay, ensuring no one tried to pry into our affairs.
I'll make sure the house is the most comfortable place for us.
I grabbed my personal phone after Beta Serena, Gamma Nolan, and Delta Sophia left my office.
\[Liam has already decided which paintings of his will be hanging in our new home.\]
A warm feeling filled my chest when I read Celeste's message.
Beta Serena was probably right. Liam no longer considers me a stranger who just realized he's my son.
\[I'm glad to hear that. It seems we can't wait to stay at the house again.\] I sent the message to Celeste with a beaming smile.
My eyes widened as I reread Celeste's message. My heart skipped a beat because Celeste had said the house was ours.
Her statement made me think she would definitely accept me back as her mate.
I didn't mind being Levi's stepfather at all.
