Chapter 66 Celeste

Chapter 66 Celeste
Celeste's POV

“Are you happy that your beloved ex-mate is free from his nightmares?” Beta Dylan asked, placing the matcha on my desk. “We don't need to doubt Alpha Sifon's magical abilities.”

Since yesterday, he has brought up the matter of my two sons and me accompanying Alpha Eiden to the Purple Forest Group a few days ago.

His tone was mocking and filled with anger. He was asking questions not because he cares.

“I don’t know. He hasn’t told me yet,” I replied casually, taking the matcha. We shouldn’t waste food, even if we don’t like the person who gave it to us.

“You’re getting closer to him, aren’t you?” Beta Dylan snorted harshly.

“You two must be exchanging messages not just to talk about Liam anymore.” He was clearly jealous and looked like he was dying to meet Alpha Eiden and punch him.

“Yeah, that’s it.” I shrugged, sipping the matcha with my eyes closed. Beta Dylan would be even more annoyed with me if he knew that Alpha Eiden and I often talked on the phone.

"How can you be kind to someone who hurt you?" Beta Dylan raised an eyebrow.

"He threw you away after taking something so precious to you, and didn't even give himself a chance to get to know you." Beta Dylan looked at me as if I were the stupidest woman in the world.

I don't regret giving myself to my ex-mate because I loved Liam so much.

“Even if I hated him, I wouldn’t show it,” I said, staring at my empty cup of matcha. “I’ve learned to hide my feelings and who I really am from you guys.”

“I don’t see you hating him.” Beta Dylan looked me straight in the eye. “I can see through lies and honesty.”

“Why is that so important to you?” I stood up from my chair without taking my eyes off him. “I don’t want to discuss this anymore.”

“This is important to me,” Beta Dylan said seriously. “I won’t let you love him and go back to him. You will be mine.”

I no longer shudder in horror when I hear him express his feelings for me. Now I was sick of him.

'I’m so sick of him, too,' my wolf growled. 'I want to scratch his annoying face so bad.'

I left my office, ignoring Beta Dylan, who called out to me angrily.

Beta Dylan only dared to talk to me like that in my office. He didn’t want anyone else to know he liked me. I don’t know why.

“Are you ready to go to school?” I asked Liam, who was putting on his shoes on the porch. He nodded with a big smile.

“Mommy, I'm coming with you.” Levi ran towards me. “Don’t leave me alone.” He looked at me with teary eyes.

I glanced at Beta Dylan, who nodded resignedly. Yesterday, Levi had cried when he found out I was waiting for Liam at the playground. No one could handle a crying Levi.

“Okay.” I kissed Levi on the cheek. He jumped up and down happily.

We got into the car and spent a long time on the road as heavy rain poured down. The ground beneath us had turned soft and slippery.

“Mommy.” Liam looked at me curiously. “Is Alpha Eiden no longer having nightmares?”

“I don’t know. He hasn’t told me yet.” I stroked his light blonde hair with a smile.

I was glad Liam cared about his biological father.

The rain showed no signs of stopping. Instead, it grew heavier, accompanied by flashes of lightning that made the atmosphere feel tense and unsettling.

Liam put on his raincoat. David, who would walk him to the school gate, also protected himself from the rain with it.

“Good luck studying, Liam!” Levi said, waving enthusiastically as Liam prepared to step out of the car.

"Sure." Liam nodded with a big smile at Levi.

“Be careful. Watch your step,” I reminded him, unable to hide my worry.

"Yes, Mommy." Liam nodded and gave me a thumbs-up.

Levi and I watched Liam and David brave the heavy rain and lightning bolts on their way to Liam's kindergarten from the car window.

We were relieved to see Liam enter his school.

David planned to speak with the school administration to ask if he could sit on the porch while the rain continued. I just hoped they wouldn’t object.

"I can't go down the slide," Levi pouted, his gaze fixed on the playground to our left.

"It doesn't rain every day. You can play there tomorrow," I comforted him. Levi nodded weakly.

Levi and I remained in the car parked in front of the forest with the driver.

Although Levi and I waited for Liam until he got home from school, David was still assigned as Liam's fake uncle.

He usually sat reading the newspaper under a tree next to Liam's kindergarten.

It was okay. Liam was getting safer from the organization's reach, but we knew sooner or later the blue-eyed man's friends would do anything to get him out of my base.

We made sure the blue-eyed man would never know we were rogue assassins. He'd only know I was a successful businesswoman until he died.

The number of agents assigned to watch over my two sons and me continued to increase.

Levi and I played anything to kill time. Luckily, the garage had some toys.

The rain eased an hour before Liam got home from school, but Levi still couldn't play at the playground. We wouldn't get out of the car until we got back home.

"Mommy, I had a nightmare," Levi said, putting together his puzzle.

"What was it?" I asked.

"Elliot took my dinosaur. Then I cried. He wouldn't give it to me. I don't know where he kept it." Levi pouted as if it were real.

“It was just a dream.” I gently stroked his hair. “Elliot never did that, right?”

“No.” Levi shook his head. “Then why did I have that dream?” He asked me a difficult question.

“Maybe because you wanted Elliot to do that because you knew he wouldn’t.” I was so relieved to find the answer.

“Um, I don’t know.” Levi shook his head, looking utterly confused.

“I wanted a chocolate donut!” Levi forgot his nightmare so easily.

Levi was enjoying his donuts. Beta Dylan gave the box to Levi, not me.

My brow furrowed when I received a call from Alpha Eiden. He never called me this early in the morning.

“It’s Alpha Eiden,” I told Levi.

“Hello."

“Hello.” Alpha Eiden sounded calm, as if he’d finished his work. “I just wanted to let you know I haven’t had any nightmares in the past two days.”

“Good. I’m really glad to hear that,” I said sincerely. “I’m relieved I didn’t give you the wrong information.”

Alpha Eiden didn't know I actually felt guilty for not telling him sooner when he asked for my help finding someone who could stop the nightmares that plagued him.

“Your information is very accurate. I never thought these nightmares could be dispelled with magic,” said Alpha Eiden.

“I didn't expect it either," I said. "When I heard the news, I hesitated to tell you.” Wow, I'm such a good liar.

“I am so grateful to you once again.”

My heart felt like it was being stabbed by the joy in his voice. There was a pause in his speech, and I heard his fingers drumming on the table.

“I honestly wanted to ask you where you got that information.” It was funny how he hesitated to ask me that.

“I asked the rogue assassin.” I was sure he was shocked. I wondered how long he could hold himself back from finding out about me. “I’ll give you the details in a message.”

“Okay,” Alpha Eiden replied. “Hopefully, they can find the person who's giving me nightmares. I'm pretty sure they paid Alpha Sifon or one of his other members.”

That kind of information was easily accessible to my agents.

I also wondered who hated Alpha Eiden so much that they didn't want him to sleep soundly.
