Chapter 48 Celeste

Chapter 48 Celeste
Celeste's POV

We returned home after lunch because Liam and Levi felt uneasy and afraid of the River Dectagon Pack's enemy spy warriors.

I couldn't calm them down because I was also feeling anxious, especially since Beta Dylan asked us to immediately leave the River Dectagon Pack and ensured that our agents would monitor and guard us from their hiding place.

Alpha Eiden’s warriors’ carelessness gave two of Alpha Jackson’s spies the chance take photos of my two sons and me, shattering the trust we had in them.

“Did you know about the warrior spy Alpha Jackson?” Liam asked me on the way to our hidden base.

“Yes.” I nodded. There was no point in lying to them. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you.” I looked at my two sons, who weren’t surprised by my confession.

“Why didn’t you tell us?” Liam looked at me angrily, as if I had betrayed him. If I were them, I would be angry too.

“If I told you, you wouldn’t want to go to the River Dectagon Pack anymore,” I said.

Liam and Levi nodded.

“How did Beta Dylan and the others let us go?” Liam asked, clearly wanting to know what I had done. He looked at me anxiously, as if he thought I had pleaded with Beta Dylan.

“I simply chose words that made sense to Beta Dylan.” I smiled at Liam, who didn’t quite believe me.

I felt sad when Liam lowered his head, squeezed his hand, and said in a low voice, “Will we never be able to go there again?”

I was stunned. My eyes blinked in disbelief at Liam's question. Without realizing it, Liam was showing me that he was happy to stay at his biological father's house, though I didn't know if that meant he had accepted Alpha Eiden as a part of his life.

"I don't know." I shook my head. "I'll discuss this with the higher-ups and wait to hear from Alpha Eiden. He'll definitely do something to ensure Alpha Jackson doesn't reveal our secret."

"I hope it's good news," Liam whispered, his eyes still fixed on his hand. I hugged him and stroked his back, feeling heavy inside.

Alpha Eiden said nothing more than apologizing to us, but I was certain he was already searching for a way to threaten Alpha Jackson in return.

Alpha Eiden should have asked the rogue assassins about Alpha Jackson's secret, but it seemed he wouldn't. He hadn't even contacted the rogue assassins to find someone who could stop the nightmares from attacking him.

The day had passed without anyone noticing, yeah, I thought so.

Yesterday, Beta Dylan didn't come to my office to discuss Alpha Jackson and his warrior squad attacking Alpha Eiden's pack while my two sons and I were there.

That discussion would take place today after lunch. We needed to have full stomachs to concentrate, even though sometimes being full could make us feel lazy.

"He didn't text today," I mumbled while looking at Alpha Eiden, and I's last message yesterday afternoon when he asked if we had arrived home.

Alpha Eiden hadn't texted me since last night until this afternoon. He usually asks me if Liam had had dinner, what he did before bed, if he'd slept yet, and other things about Liam.

I waited for his text because that had become my daily routine for the past two months. So when he didn't, I wondered what was wrong with him, but I didn't bother to ask him.

“Does he feel so guilty? Does he think we’re mad at him? And he thinks I won’t respond to his messages.”

If Alpha Jackson hadn’t attacked his pack, I doubt Alpha Eiden would have told us about the carelessness of the warriors guarding his mansion.

"But he could have just kept quiet if he didn't want us to know. My sons and I would never have guessed that Alpha Jackson and his warrior squad would attack his pack because he knew we were in his mansion."

Alpha Eiden knew I was a civilian and that my two sons and I lived in a rogue group. We were used to appearing like clueless fools.

'You care about him?' I frowned at my wolf’s question.

'You want to know what’s happening to him now, right? Why hasn’t he texted you to ask about Liam?' My wolf said sarcastically. She hated it whenever I thought about our ex-mate.

'I’m just confused as to why he’s not being his usual self.' I answered honestly. Besides, my wolf knew what I was thinking.

Beta Dylan knocked on the door, and I invited him in.

My wolf pursed her lips, saving the words she wanted to say to me for later.

“Hi, Alpha. How are you today? We haven’t seen each other since this morning.” Beta Dylan sat down on the couch across from me.

“Hi.” I gave him a small smile. “I’m fine. It's just that my mind is so noisy.” I sighed softly.

The revelation of our identities and this base was the end of the world for us. We, accustomed to hiding and keeping many things secret, had to adapt to life out there.

We couldn't guarantee that people wouldn't be angry with us because they thought we were all assassins.

We might be badly beaten and end up dead, especially at the hands of those who couldn't accept their loved ones dying horribly under our swords.

"I don't want our identities and this base to be known to anyone outside." I shook my head with a firm expression. "I will ensure that no one can change our life choices."

I am the Alpha of this group, and Levi is their future Alpha. I don't want Benedict to be disappointed in me, and I don't want Levi to lose his status.

No one will ever know who my sons and I truly are. Not even Alpha Eiden.

“So, for now or forever, you and your two sons will not be staying at the Alpha Eiden mansion?” Beta Dylan asked a question he already knew the answer to.

What else could we do? Liam understood our situation very well.

"Liam has accepted Alpha Eiden as his biological father, although he's still hesitant to trust him," I said.

Then sadness crept into my chest. “It seems like he will ask me sooner or later to let him stay at Alpha Eiden’s house alone.”

"I don't know if that's a good thing or not," Beta Dylan said, stroking his beardless chin.

I returned his deep gaze.

“You should think from now on what if Liam agrees to be Alpha Eiden's heir because many people at Liam's kindergarten and the werewolf-hating organization know that you are his mother.”

“I often think about that.” I nodded in understanding. "I hope they don't try to find out about me. They'll be satisfied just knowing I'm Alpha Eiden's ex-mate."

I don't know if people will be curious, but Alpha Eiden and I have no relationship other than we are Liam's parents; they shouldn't interfere with my life.
