Chapter 47 Celeste
Celeste's POV
The warrior camp was next to this mansion. The howls of thousands of wolves were terrifying. They were shouting, "Let's fight the enemy with all our might."
My body froze when I received information from Beta Dylan. 'Alpha Jackson and his warrior squad are on their way to the River Dectagon Pack.'
Alpha Eiden sat quietly, but his face was clearly angry. He didn't look at us, his gaze fixed on the table, as if he wanted to hide from us that enemies had attacked his pack because he knew we would feel uncomfortable.
"Why are those warriors howling?" Levi asked, confused.
"Too bad we can't understand what they're saying." Liam looked out the window, where we could see the walls of the warrior camp.
Only wolves can understand the howls of other wolves. I knew the meaning of Alpha Eiden's warriors' howls from my wolf.
"Hey, guys." Alpha Eiden grabbed our attention. He looked at us with bated breath. It wasn't easy for him to tell us what would happen to his pack in the next few minutes.
“One of the pack’s enemies attacked us. My wolf must deal with them,” Alpha Eiden stated firmly. Hatred shone in his eyes.
“Don’t worry, guys. This war won’t last long and will only be fought on the battlefield.” Alpha Eiden reassured us not to panic.
“I believe in you. You and your wolf won’t let the enemy win.” Liam offered words that boosted Alpha Eiden’s fighting spirit.
“Don’t let them win!” Levi cheered, his fists clenched in the air. Alpha Eiden smiled amusedly.
“Hi. Nice to see you again.” Beta Serena stood at the door, waving at us and flashing a wide smile. “I’ll be with you while Alpha battles our annoying enemy.”
“Hi.” My two sons and I greeted her warmly.
Alpha Eiden ran towards the warrior camp. I didn't know where he would switch bodies with his wolf. Since he's Liam's father, I prayed to the Moon Goddess to grant victory to his wolf and his warrior wolves in this battle.
Liam and Levi looked worried, even though they had faith in Alpha Eiden and his wolf. Yeah, it was understandable; this was our first time in a situation like this.
Because our base is difficult to find, we have never been attacked, and no wars have ever broken out between rogue assassin groups. We deal with annoying enemies outside the base instead.
“Alpha Jackson from the Mountain Grass Pack is our most frequent enemy. He’s annoying and narcissistic,” Beta Serena said irritably, pursing her lips.
“Why does he attack your pack so often?” Liam asked curiously.
“Because he likes seeing Alphas angry,” Beta Serena explained. “He’s weird, isn’t he?” She raised her eyebrows. “How unlucky we are to have an enemy like him.”
“What caused your pack and his pack to become enemies?” Liam had recently grown interested in his biological father’s pack.
“A hundred and eighty years ago, our Alphas went to war over a woman,” Beta Serena said, shaking her head. “She wasn’t their mate and didn’t want them, yet they competed for her heart until their packs attacked one another.”
“They’re idiots, aren’t they?” Beta Serena grimaced and looked around anxiously, imagining what would happen if the late senior Alpha she had spoken of came to her.
"So that's why the River Dectagon Pack and the Mountain Grass Pack became enemies?" Liam asked, his eyebrows lifting in disbelief.
“Yes!” Beta Serena nodded. “At first, they attacked each other to prove their strength and power to that woman, but somehow they passed that grudge down to their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.”
“That’s strange,” Levi commented. “Their reasons for being enemies don’t make sense.” He shook his head and spoke like an adult.
Beta Serena stared at Levi in amazement. She didn't know that sometimes my sons said things that made people doubt their true ages.
"Many werewolf packs become enemies just because they fought over a female who wasn't their mate," Beta Serena said. "Alphas have huge egos."
Liam and Levi looked back at photos of Alpha Eiden when he was a child. They smiled and sometimes laughed. Beta Serena sat next to Liam, and she laughed too.
Liam looked exactly like Alpha Eiden except for his eye color.
Now I was worried, wondering if many people secretly remembered Alpha Eiden when they saw Liam, especially with his werewolf scent.
Wait a minute. What if the werewolf-hating organization already realized that Liam was Alpha Eiden's son? But my agents hadn't found any information on that yet, probably because Alpha Eiden wasn't very popular.
Half an hour later, the howling of wolves echoed in the distance. The battlefield was a mile away from the mansion, which was why we could hear the howls of thousands of wolves.
Liam and Levi felt the tension again.
“Don’t worry.” Beta Serena smiled at them. “The war will only take place on the battlefield,” she said confidently. “You know every werewolf pack has a forest designated for war.”
"Relax, boys, we'll leave everything to Alpha Eiden's wolf and his warrior wolves," I said as I sat between them, embracing them.
Beta Serena told jokes that made Liam and Levi laugh. She was a master at entertaining others.
No one wants war, yet peace is difficult to find in this world.
My eyes widened as I remembered that Alpha Jackson already knew about my two sons and me. Did he attack this pack because he knew we were in this mansion?
Moon Goddess. What's going to happen? Anxiety gripped me, but I had to remain calm for the sake of my two sons.
Two hours had passed, and the war showed no signs of ending.
My anxiety grew as I wondered if Alpha Jackson's warriors could breach the mansion's security.
What if they managed to break in, find us, take us hostage, and demand that I tell them about my relationship with Alpha Eiden? And if they couldn't get me to talk, they took pictures of my two sons and me, to make it easier for them to find out about us.
I couldn't calm down at all. Beta Dylan would surely lecture me, saying that his fears had come true, even though Alpha Jackson's warriors couldn't enter this heavily guarded house.
I could breathe a sigh of relief when I got the news that the war was over.
“Welcome back, Alpha,” Beta Serena, Liam, and Levi said in unison. “You’ve been fighting. Thank you so much.”
“Yes, of course,” Alpha Eiden replied shyly. When our eyes met, I smiled at him.
“Thank you for keeping them company, Beta Serena,” Alpha Eiden said sincerely. He didn't look tired at all. He went straight back to the mansion after the war was over.
Beta Serena nodded. “I enjoyed sitting and chatting with them.” She stroked Liam and Levi’s hair with a broad smile.
Beta Serena left the mansion. Then the four of us sat back in the family room.
"There's something important I need to tell you," Alpha Eiden said before Liam could ask about the war that had lasted over two hours.
"What's wrong?" Liam asked curiously.
I turned my attention to Alpha Eiden, who was sitting on the single sofa.
"I apologize to you all for not telling you about this until today," Alpha Eiden said with a heavy sigh, looking at each of us.
"About a week ago, I captured two of Alpha Jackson's warriors. They took photos of you from behind and from the side, and they told Alpha Jackson about it, but they thought Celeste was my ex-girlfriend, Liam and Levi were my sons, and you were twins."
Alpha Eiden's words didn't surprise me. I had been waiting for him to say that ever since I learned the information from Beta Dylan.
Meanwhile, Liam and Levi were so shocked they couldn't speak, their eyes fixed on me. Anxiety was clearly visible on their faces.
I didn't feel guilty about not telling them, because I knew they wouldn't be able to enjoy their time at the Alpha Eiden mansion happily anymore.
