Chapter 32
Alpha Lennon
I kissed her for the last time as the morning had again knocked on the doorstep which meant that we had to part ways. Yvette tied her hair in a messy bun leaving a few strands of her hair loose on both of her shoulders. Her face was still sweaty and the blush was shining like the after-glow which indicated our night spent well.
"I will miss you all day." She pouted as the dimples formed in her cheeks giving off her innocent look.
"Yes, me too. But we have to be more careful now. Beta Jaime is back in the pack and I cannot keep him at long duty hours. It's already going to be a week since we started our sneaky affair." I pulled her in my arms and she let out a playful chuckle. That sound of hers made a throbbing effect between my pants, and I almost wanted to pin her against the wall.
"He doesn't seem to care, Alpha Lennon. Seriously," she whispered in dismay. "I hate being in the same room as him. But we need to pretend." She put her head on my left shoulder, listening intently to my heartbeat.
"I will try to send him to the meeting of the Crescent Moon pack. That will give us enough time again to ourselves."
She excitedly turned her head at me and pecked my cheek. " I love you, Alpha Lennon !" She beamed.
I nodded and my wolf growled in aggression. I knew he never liked it when Yvette would express her 'love' to me. She meant nothing to me and her closeness was enough to make me want to throw up at that moment.
"Gotta go." I pulled her body aside from my lap and flattened the crease on my shirt.
I left her sitting on my bed to get outside and have a shower. Her scent was still lingering around me which I needed to get rid of. Somehow, after spending time with her and usually, late at night, I would re-comprehend my situation. And the answers were always the same, which included that I was not satisfied with my current situation. I needed more than a bed warmer.
I needed my mate! I was empty without her.
The cold shower made goosebumps rise on my skin. I stood there with my eyes closed and my jaw clenched in anger. Even after seven days, my man had not been able to find Daphne. It was as if she was transferred to a different world where nobody could reach her.
Every day was growing to be more stressful for me and my wolf. I needed a Luna and my mate before it was too late. After around twenty minutes, I draped the towel around my torso. As expected, Yvette was gone and I had my chamber all alone to myself. In a hurry, I got dressed up in khaki pants and a gray shirt as I was running late for one of the important meetings with one of the elders.
He had asked me to visit him for a personal discussion and for some advice which he had intended to share. He was one of the advisors whom my father trusted the most. By the tone of his voice when he asked me about my plans for the future, I knew for sure that he had thought about some of the threats coming in the future against me or the pack.
I knocked on his door and patiently waited for him. A key turned on the other side of the knob and the door was flung open. His old and wrinkled face flashed with a smile as he saw me standing outside his chamber.
"Good morning, Alpha Lennon," he greeted, making a space for me to enter the chamber.
"A very good morning, Delta Phi." I walked in and scanned the chamber for any other person. But there was no one other than us, which meant he only had to discuss something with me.
He locked the doors and asked me to take a seat in the living room. For a few minutes, neither of us spoke anything. He had a tense look on his face which he couldn't hide from me.
"Is there anything wrong, Delta?" I finally asked because he was not going to just start his concern.
"Alpha Lennon. there is something which I find seriously concerning for now," he replied after a deep thought.
My blood turned cold as his eyes narrowed down on me. The crippling fear shook me to my core. Somehow his questioning looked scared me as if he knew anything about Yvette and me spending the nights together. The air in the room thickened and suddenly it became too difficult for me to breathe.
"What's that?" I asked him.
If he had by any chance got the idea of my affair, then I was ready to take the most gruesome step. My wolf agreed with my decision of ending his life if it meant any threat.
"I know after the death of Alaine, you have been too lonely. This was a sudden shock to all of us, and you suffered the most without any doubts." He looked straight into my eyes.
My fists clenched and the fear was turning into reality as he dragged his words into the silence.
"Yes, it was the worst time of my life. I lost my mate and father." I decided to play with him.
"Yes, I know. But Alpha Lennon, you need to understand that you are the Alpha of this pack and as important as you are for all of us, a Luna is something that the pack needs for existence. Sometimes, the Moon Goddess would take our mates, but it doesn't mean She doesn't allow us to have second chances." A warm smile spread on his lips.
Finally, I released the breath I was holding for so long. Everything seemed to be sorting out before my eyes and the reason for his sudden meeting made clear sense to me.
"Yes, I agree," I said and patted his shoulder.
I relaxed my tensed muscles and gave my full attention to whatever he had to say now. If it was not about Yvette, I was ready to listen to anything else in this world.
"A second chance?" I asked him innocently and shook my head in denial.
"Yes. You might think that this is the end of the world for you, but Alpha Lennon, there is still an opportunity to find a mate. Maybe it was never supposed to happen. You cannot sit here all day in the chamber and ignore that you also need someone by your side. As important as the duties and your responsibilities towards the pack are as an Alpha, it's also important for you to have a mate." He explained, but this time I looked straight at him.
Whatever he was saying, it was correct. I had even heard many times that some of the pack members were talking about the next Luna of the pack.
"Delta Phi, I am working on finding my mate. I know and feel the worry you showed for my future and I assure you that the Pack will have their Luna by the end of the season." I replied with a firm look in my eyes.
"I believe so."
We both stood up and after shaking hands with him I rushed out of his chamber.
His words rang inside my head like a warning sign. He indeed was right about the fact that I needed a Luna to rule beside me. The members of the pack would soon start questioning if I couldn't find anyone else.
The Yvette chapter needed to be removed from my life and I wanted my Daphne.
Daphne was the Luna this pack wanted and needed. She was the chosen one and whatever powers were behind her missing I would fight them all to get to her.
The idea soon crossed my mind when the word power ran inside my head. If there was indeed some magical help in her missing, I needed to be more vigilant.
In this whole world, there was only one person who could do this. 'She' was the only one who had a solution to every problem of mine. But as easy as it sounded it was the most difficult task to accomplish because she was never satisfied and always demanded huge returns.
But right at this moment, nothing mattered more than me finding Daphne. I had to get to her somehow and bring her back into the back. If it meant that I had to visit 'her' then I would surely do that. There was no point in returning now because the time was slipping from my hands.
I informed my secretary to cancel all the meetings scheduled for today. I also informed beta Jaime to carry on any of the duties which were mandatory to accomplish. After checking everything in line, I told the Gamma that I was visiting my father's grave today.
I rode my horse at full speed and took turns and turns at every step. The path began to be very dangerous and it grew more difficult to travel on the track. I had to tie my horse outside the muddy pond and the only available option was to travel by foot. My boots got stuck here and there in the mud and I had to keep myself balancing on the narrow stone-made path.
An owl hooted in the distance and the birds began chirping loudly around me. The forest was reacting to my presence and especially the animals and birds because for them it was a rare thing to see another living being enter this forest.
As I recalled the path, I continued walking down the same track where few footsteps had been made. Fortunately, I saw that old hut behind the two trees covering it partially. But that's where the answer to all my problems lived.
I knocked once before entering the old and frigid place. Everything seemed the same as it had been since I had last visited the old place before. I entered the large living room and found the seer sitting there reciting something from the paper. Even her choice of clothing seemed to haven't changed at all, a baggy old dress under a hoodie coat that looked more like a rag.
"Oh, Lennon... I mean Alpha Lennon ... " she said as she saw me standing in the doorway.
Her smile went wider as her gaze fixated on me.
"Your eyes say it all—the pain and suffering. You haven't found her yet, have you?" she said walking closer.
"That's right. But I want to know about her. Please tell me where she is." I was practically begging this Seer to let me know about my beautiful Daphne.
"Yes, I know where she is," the seer said, taking a seat before me.
I clasped my hands happily at her words and took another seat by her side.
"Tell me. Now!" I shouted. My eagerness only made me insanely impatient.
"Oh, Alpha Lennon. Have you forgotten about my arrangements? I thought you knew already since your dad must have told you about me." She looked at me for minutes.
"Yes, my father had been saying things about you all the time. You are the best solution whenever there are lots of difficulties."
"I am talking about the return fee!" She shouted getting anxious and angry at me.
Soon, the bells rang in my head and I understood why she had gone irritated all of a sudden.
"Tell me what you need. I can give you everything now," I whispered slowly in a dangerous and authoritative tone.
"Are you sure?" She raised a gray brow, making the fine lines in her forehead more visible. "Because everything in this world has a price, and sometimes the price is so high that maybe you won't be able to follow through with it."
I was growing annoyed with the way she was talking to me. There was nothing in this world I could not give or sacrifice to get my mate, Daphne.
"Yes, whatever you need." I kept on standing there still with a fire burning in my eyes. "So tell me, what is your price!"
"A life. But it isn't just someone's life. I need a living sacrifice with the same blood as you running through his veins. In short, someone's life that is related to you!" she blurted out, a grin curled her pale lips and her eyes shone too much than they should. "Will you give me that?"
