Chapter 19

ALPHA CALLE

“Good afternoon, Architect Earheart.”

I nodded at my secretary as he opened the office door for me. When I sat down on the leather chair, he put a stack of papers—particularly blueprints—on my oak desk as gently as possible as though they were fragile glass. “These are the plans that you requested.”

“Thank you, Tent. Now you can go to your table. I’ll call you when I’m done reviewing them.”

He politely smiled. “Oh, what would you like to eat or drink, Sir?”

“Nothing.” I shook my head, already skimming through the papers which were virtually as wide as my table. “But, I’ll let you know when I need something.”

Tent nodded again. “Excuse me.”

When I was alone, I couldn't help but stroll around, remembering previous times. If you're wondering how I acquired this job, let me tell you it wasn't easy.

Even though our pack was in the remote reaches of the continent, far from society, we worked hard to survive and fit in with normal humans. So, at the age of sixteen, I began working in an architecture firm. I once observed the CEO of a corporation being robbed while his driver and men were powerless to intervene. I was able to defend them because I have irrefutable power over people. Since then, the CEO has been supportive and has offered me a position as his assistant when I graduate. Because the CEO has no immediate family, the company was passed down to me at the age of twenty-three.

Sharing my bounty, I decided to construct a mansion in the woods and began gathering slave werewolves and zeta troupes. The following year, I raised an army and began capturing packs whose Alphas were abusing their members. I only defeated the pack of evil Alphas. My pack was now regarded as one of the most feared in the East at the age of twenty-five.

Anyway, working in a corporate environment was very different from dealing with my pack. Regardless, I must give them equal attention. I had to make sure that every member of my kind was safe and protected in the werewolf realm, with the help of my highest officials and warriors. There was no time for rest because dangers could emerge at any time of day or night.

But it didn't mean I could just sit back and relax in the human business world. Dealing with other companies would test your patience, especially with businesspeople whose greed was built into their processes. I had to ensure that employees, regardless of their job title, were paid fairly so that they could put food on the table and provide for their families needs.

Balancing the two heavy worlds on my shoulders wasn’t a joke.

It was an hour later when I finished with the blueprints. Once I called out to Trent and ordered him to send them to the Engineering office, my wolf spoke in my head.

‘Are you sure you’re not forgetting something?’

“I bet no. I read every word and every line of the drafts,” I sat, shutting my eyes and massaging my temples. “Is that what you mean, by the way?”

‘No,’ he groaned. ‘I’m referring to Amelia’s concern. You were so preoccupied with getting rid of Suzette that you have forgotten to get back to her.’

I straightened to my seat. Seemed like I already didn’t want to hear what she would have to say. There was only one concern she would tell me about— Daphne .

After letting out a loud exhale, I mind-linked Miss Amelia. She spoke at once after a gasp.

‘Alpha Calle…’

“What do you want to tell me this morning?” I inquired about my intention immediately, hearing the impatience in my tone. “Do not tell me it was Daphne .”

‘I, um… It was about Daphne .’

I squeezed my eyes. “What did the little pup do this time around?”

‘She…’ Miss Amelia’s voice was a bit shaking.

“She what?”

‘She has hurt a girl in the class…’

A steady burst of rage surged through me, and I punched the table with my fist, nearly cracking it—it would be smashed down if I used my full strength.

Trent walked in, but I ignored him even when he hurried toward me.

“S-Sir, are you—”

"What exactly happened!" " I grumbled as I turned to face the window. I put my fingers to my ear as if I were speaking into an earphone. Things would get more complicated if Tent suspected me of speaking alone as if I were insane.

“Tell me!”

“Well, I saw everything. It was not her fault. The girl was mocking her and I think it triggered her anger and she blew her off.”

“Where’s the girl?”

"She's in the clinic. Unconscious, the pack doctor says—"

"I'm talking about Daphne ! Where the hell is she!"

'O-oh, after I dismissed the class, I let her stay in her room and—'

“That’s enough of explaining,” I grunted dismissively and took the trouser suit from the chair. As I approached the door, my strides were heavy and my mind was buzzing. That little ball of fire simply refused to behave! I was at a loss for how to make her learn. My mind was racing with possibilities, but it would all come down to the punishment I wanted to avoid... but also anticipated.

'I get the idea you're eager to punish her,' Dark observed. My temples were pounding with rage, but he was the polar opposite. As my wolf awoke, I could feel his delight.

“Are you leaving right now, Sir?” My lanky secretary was struggling to run after me down the corridor. “What about the meeting at—”

"Reschedule them for tomorrow," I said. However, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to make it to work tomorrow. Every cell in my body was thinking about what to do with the mate that the Moon Goddess had thrown in front of me whether I wanted it or not.

I arrived at the mansion nearly half an hour later. It would only take fifteen minutes if I let Dark wander from tree to tree until he jumped through Daphne 's window and pinned her to the wall.

I shook my head. This was the first time that my wolf was taking my fury differently. I was mad at Daphne , but he was excited to reach for her as soon as possible.

Why the hell why?

Degen was the one I'd met in the lobby. The entire packhouse must have known what had taken based on his expression.

"Is Daphne in her room?" I asked Degen as I ran up the stairs.

Degen's voice rang over the lobby, "She's in there. Do you want me to accompany you so someone could stop you from killing her… or—"

I shot him a lethal stare as I stomped on the second floor. Degen was grinning before I slammed the door shut.

" Daphne !" I yelled across the room as I took a peek around. The bed was clean and tidy, and amazingly, all of the small belongings like combs, shoes, and even documents were in their proper placements. When did she start being organized?

“I know you’re here!” Her delicious scent filled the air, saturating my nose. I had to clench my jaw to keep myself from losing my senses. Why the hell was the atmosphere in her room becoming more intense? My head yearned to float despite how heavy it felt. Mate-bond! fcking mate-bond! "Don't pretend like you're not in this room!"

The bathroom door opened, and Daphne emerged, swiftly followed by a thick mound of warm steam. Only a tiny towel was wrapped around her body. I fisted my fist, keeping it from grasping the small cloth, and burned it to ashes, revealing all of her creamy skin.

I frowned as I walked toward her.

"Alpha Calle? It's… it's you?"

"Who else should be?!"

Her flushed cheeks expressed no fear. But simply seeing me looked to have surprised her. It was almost as though she wasn't expecting me to walk into her room.

"Have you forgotten what I've told you about obedience? Are you playing games to catch my attention? Well, imagine what..." I put my big hand around her neck. I had no intention of breaking her bones. I preferred to keep her intact from head to toe. My grip was loose enough that she could breathe.

"H-how long have you been aware of this?" she inquired, her eyes dilated like melting emeralds. I swallowed, why did she seem familiar after looking at her for a long time?

"Know about what?" I asked, increasing my grip, but she didn't show any terror on her face.

Her lips trembled, hands fisting on her sides, whitening her knuckles. "That you are my mate!"
