Chapter 50 Go Back to Bluemoon Pack
Chapter 50 Go Back to Bluemoon Pack
The quiet night, bathed in the beautiful moonlight, couldn’t hide the confusion Ruella was feeling.
Ruella sat on the edge of her bed, holding a book she wasn’t actually reading at all. Her mind was wandering, it was too cluttered to focus on anything.
"If I sneak off to the festival, Calix will get even angrier. Besides, if he’s really that worried, he should be the one accompanying me to the festival," she muttered, feeling at a loss. "What should I do, Moon Goddess? I really want to see the festival take place..."
Ruella let out a heavy sigh, letting the silence take over.
But suddenly, the silence was shattered when someone shouted her name loudly.
"RUELLA!"
The voice echoed so loudly it reached Ruella’s room on the second floor.
Ruella jolted, her book nearly falling from her hands. "Huh? Who’s shouting my name this late at night?"
She stood up quickly.
"GET OUT, RUELLA!"
"Is that...?" she murmured softly.
The voice wasn’t unfamiliar, she recognized it.
"Isn’t that Beta Orion’s voice? So he’s already returned from Frostfang. Does that mean Kyle is back too?" Ruella hurriedly got out of bed.
"RUELLA!"
The second shout startled Ruella again, she could clearly sense Orion’s anger and knew he was coming to find out why.
Knock.
Knock.
Knock.
"My lady? Are you still awake?"
The bedroom door opened slightly, and Claire appeared with a worried expression.
"My lady, there’s something down there..."
"I know, that’s Orion’s voice," Ruella cut in softly.
Without waiting any longer, Ruella grabbed her thick nightgown and walked out of the room, followed by Claire from behind.
"Wouldn’t it be better if you just stayed in your room? It seems Beta Orion is very angry right now," said Claire.
"That’s not a solution, Claire."
The quiet night began to fill with tension and whispers from the servants, who were clearly confused as well.
At the bottom of the stairs, a few people were gathered. And sure enough, Orion stood not far from the stairs with an expression as if ready to pounce on his prey.
Ruella thought to herself, "He looks so angry, and oh? Calix is already here too."
Orion’s jaw tightened as his eyes caught sight of Ruella descending the stairs.
In front of him, Calix was already standing there, trying to defuse the situation.
"Orion, calm down," Calix said, his voice low but firm.
"Calm down?" Orion repeated sharply. "How can I stay calm when I come home and the first thing I see is my little sister crying all alone? Have you forgotten what happened back then in the past when Ruby- ah shit, damn it."
Calix nodded in understanding. "But yelling like this won’t solve anything. Tell me, let’s find a way out."
"I’m not yelling aimlessly, I’m calling your mate. You should be controlling that woman." Orion gave a short, humorless laugh. "Rubina is crying in her room! She won’t even come out to greet her older brother who’s just returned from duty."
There was a moment of silence.
"And it’s all because of her," Orion continued, his voice rising again as he pointed. "Because of Ruella!"
Ruella’s steps halted right in front of Orion and Calix.
All eyes immediately turned to her.
"You should’ve just stayed in your room," Calix said softly.
Ruella frowned, confused.
"No. The source of the problem should make an appearance," Orion said.
"What’s going on?" Ruella asked.
Her gaze shifted from Calix to Orion. Ruella tensed immediately when Orion took a step forward.
"You still dare to ask?" he said sharply. "What did you do to Rubina?"
Ruella blinked, clearly not expecting that line of questioning.
"What do you mean? What exactly did I do to her?"
"Ah, you’re pretending not to understand, you bastard. You insulted her, didn’t you? Admit it," Orion continued. "You made her cry and lock herself away."
Ruella fell silent for a moment before remembering that she had indeed run into Rubina earlier that afternoon, though it had only been for a brief moment.
"We did cross paths briefly, but she was the one who started it," Ruella said.
Calix turned quickly toward her.
"Ruella," he called, his tone more serious now. "So you really did get into another fight with Rubina again? My goodness."
"Again? So this has happened before?" Orion stared at her in disbelief.
Ruella shook her head. "It’s not like that. What happened earlier was different from what happened at dinner when Rubina tried to apologize, she was being sarcastic toward me, and I... I didn’t insult her, I just called her a sly woman."
Calix let out a long, heavy sigh. He rubbed his face in frustration.
"Orion," he said finally. "I’m sorry, it’s late and you’ve just returned from a long trip. So we should end this and continue talking tomorrow with a clear head."
Orion stared at Calix in disbelief.
"Sorry? Is that all?" he repeated. "And since when can you talk with a clear head? You’re the one who usually explodes on the spot if it’s not about this woman." Orion jabbed Ruella’s shoulder with his index finger.
Calix immediately caught her to keep her from stumbling backward.
Ruella began to feel afraid, the memory of when Noah beat her came flooding back into her mind.
"I’ll handle this with her," Calix said.
"Handle it?" Orion snorted. "My sister was insulted, and that’s your reaction? Don’t you love Rubina just as much as I do?"
"I don’t know the exact details, we..." Calix replied.
"The fact is, she’s crying!" Orion snapped.
"I... I won’t accept that," Ruella cut in suddenly, trying to be brave.
All eyes turned back to her.
With her head bowed, she said, "Rubina was the one who insulted me first," she said. "Her and Daisy. But why am I the only one at fault here? I have to back down because she’s crying, so only Rubina’s feelings matter and mine don’t? I’m sad too. Rubina’s actions toward me aren’t as pure as they seem."
"Damn it. Now you want to make my little sister the villain? Ask everyone in this pack house if anyone’s ever been hurt by my little sister? Or ask the social circle. They like my little sister," Orion pressed.
"Maybe it’s because she only hates me, so I’m the only one she targets," said Ruella.
Calix raised his hand. "Enough. Both of you."
"Cal, this woman..."
"Ruella," Calix continued, "what really happened?"
Ruella took a breath. "I ran into Rubina and Daisy after talking to you in the hallway leading to the throne room," she said. "We were just passing by, then they made a snide remark about how happy I looked and how they thought my happiness wouldn’t last long. So I, I..."
"And you snapped back," Orion interjected quickly.
Ruella nodded. "Yes, of course. I’m tired of just keeping quiet."
"What did you say?" asked Calix.
"I told you before, I told Claire not to pay attention to that sly woman, that’s all," she replied.
"Are you sure that’s all? You must have said something else mean to her, right?!"
"Okay, enough." Calix’s voice was firmer this time. "This won’t end if you keep arguing like this."
He looked at Orion.
"Come on. Let’s talk somewhere else."
Orion still looked unsatisfied.
"Calix..."
"Don’t make me repeat myself," Calix said, his voice lower but firm.
Finally, Orion looked away, letting out a harsh sigh.
Calix then turned to Ruella.
"You go back to your room."
Ruella looked at him. "Cal, I really didn’t do..."
"I said go back to your room," Calix insisted.
Ruella fell silent.
Claire, standing behind her, stepped forward.
"Alpha, with all due respect..." she said.
Calix turned to her.
"Miss Ruella has been holding back all this time," Claire continued. "Lady Ruby often..."
"Claire." Ruella shook her head slightly. "It’s not necessary."
Her gaze returned to Calix. "No one will believe it."
Ruella turned and walked toward the stairs.
But suddenly, Calix spoke.
"If you feel like you're really suffering living here..."
Calix’s voice stopped her.
"You can go back to the Bluemoon Pack," Calix added.
Silence.
Time seemed to stand still for a moment. With determined steps, she turned her gaze forward again and continued walking.
Her pace quickened.
"How heartless of him to say that," Ruella thought to herself softly.
