Chapter 79 Ready.
Chapter 79 Ready.
John’s pov.
I kept breathing. The only thing I could do to calm my raging heartbeat.
I took a shaky breath right before a loud knock sounded on my door.
Making me turn my head towards it slowly.
Is it finally elder Elian and my brother?
They're supposed to meet me here by now…
I cleared my throat before slowly walking over towards it, pulling it open.
The last person I wanted to see stood on the other side of it, smirking at me.
“Get the fuck out of here Kadence. I told you to leave me alone, I don’t want you in my life!” I snapped angrily, just her presence enough to infuriate me.
She just kept smirking, looking me up and down before trying to push her way into my room.
I shoved her back, just hard enough to send a message.
‘I don’t want you here.’
“Come on, John! Don’t act like that. I know you want me, want us. We’re supposed to be together…” she started to say but I cut her off instantly.
“No. We aren’t meant to be together. I don’t want you. I have my mate. The love of my life. I don’t want anything or anyone else. I’m happy, can’t you see that? Can’t you let me be? You’re ruining my life. Genuinely ruining my life, Kadence. I told you I didn’t want you going anywhere near Bella and what did you do? You went straight to her spewing nonsense and lies… you need help. And you’ll never get that here… I’m sending you away. To a different place, somewhere where you can get the help you need,” I said sternly, leaving no room for an argument, “today is supposed to be the happiest day of my life, and you could so easily come here and try to ruin it? You don’t care about me, you don’t even care about yourself. I’m getting mated to the best mate I could’ve ever asked for. I love her okay? I’ve been in love with her. I won’t let anyone take this away from me.”
I grabbed her arm tightly, dragging her towards the front doors of the pack house.
“John! Please!” She gasped, trying desperately to get out of my hold, “I’ll be good! I promise! I’ll leave you alone, just please don’t send me away! Who knows what will happen to me!”
“I know…” I muttered, “you’ll survive. And you should come out a better person.”
“John?” My brother's voice said unsure, looking at me with his eyebrows drawn together, “what are you doing with her? Did she bother you?”
I rolled my eyes as I tossed her towards him, “get her out of here. Her name is Kadence. Bring her to the lost wolves where they deal with crazy wolves like her. She needs help, and I think they are the only people who can help her the way she needs.”
He looked at me for a second before he picked Kadence off of the ground and looked down at her.
“You’ve pissed my brother off. Whatever you did… I don’t think you deserve to go to the lost wolves. I think you deserve to go to the blood witches, who will extract your memories and make you relive it day after day…” he said with a wicked grin on his face while he watched Kadence’s face morph into pure fear.
“You- you can’t send me there! I’d die you fucking maniac!” She screamed in my brother's face, making my eyes widen in shock.
“Do you know who you’re talking to, little girl?” My brother said darkly, his eyes turning completely black as he stared at Kadence with rage.
“You are John's brother, so what?” She scoffed, her eyes widening as his hand wrapped around her throat tightly, her face turning a bright shade of red.
“I am the king. And no one gets away with talking to me like that!” He screamed in her face, spittle flying all over.
“You’re killing her, Karl. Just take her to the blood witches or the lost wolves. They’ll deal with her, no need to get our hands dirty for no good reason,” I said while placing a hand on his shoulder, knowing this isn’t the right thing to do.
“I don’t care! Do you know anyone who spoke to me the way she did and survived?” He said through gritted teeth, his grip tightening even more around her neck.
The only noises that could be heard were her gurgling and gasping for breath.
“She didn’t know who you were. No matter how much I hate her I wouldn’t wish this kind of death on anyone. Not even my worst enemy,” I said honestly, because even though I did hate her, no one deserves to die the way Karl kills.
He looked over at me, his jaw clenched before he threw her away, her body smacking into a wall hard, knocking her unconscious.
“I’m calling a warrior to come get her. They’ll take her to the blood witches,” he mumbled before walking past me towards my room, waiting for me to follow.
I shook my head sadly as I looked at Kadence laying on the floor. Her head was bleeding slightly.
I turned around without looking back and went to wait for elder Elian. She deserved what happened to her.
If she would’ve just listened to me in the first place… none of this would’ve happened.
“So, are you ready for your big day?” Elder Elian said in a sing-song voice as he came through the door, a huge smile on his face.
“As ready as I’ll ever be,” I whispered while staring at my reflection on the mirror.
Wondering if I was ready for this.
I am scared.
I love her so badly it hurts.
I just… have a bad feeling about tonight.
Someone, something… is waiting.
And I will find out what it is.
But first, I have to finish getting ready, and right now, I am nowhere near ready.
My suit is still hung on the door, my hair is a mess and my hands won’t stop shaking…
“Just take a breather, little brother,” Karl chuckled from across the room, looking at me in amusement.
“He’s right, just breathe, John. This is what you wanted, isn’t it? Think about Bella, think about Megan and the future you all will have together as a family,” elder Elian said gently, always the wise one.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.
I’m ready… and hopefully whatever is coming, is ready too.
